So the first three episodes are up on Amazon
Now I have not heard the Podcasts so I'm kind of going in blind to this series
and it was a lot of fun
I like the characters and it's got a good mix of drama and comedy. Plus the relationships in the group feel really solid, which I guess makes sense considering.
Looking forward to the next three

Thanks. That's why I wanted to ask. Still, sounds like I might have a new series to watch.
It's a cartoon so everything but the swearing I find odd to complain about. The art style isn't even particularly realistic. "Nudity" LOL!
It's rated at "16+" if that helps.
If you liked Amazon's Invincible you might like this.
I found the first episode to have an odd mix of scatological humor, sexual elements, hyper-serious character backstory and physics-defying combat to really get into it. I might watch the rest of it at some point but won't be setting aside time to make sure I do.

Episodes 1-2 are newly written for the show and were then rewritten at the last minute when their original scripts didn't pass muster, which may explain how it feels a bit off.
Episode 3 starts adapting the first season of Critical Role proper, cutting out the first few episodes (where were in media res, because they didn't start recording the show until they were a fair way through the campaign) to focus on the Briarwood story, which I believe was the first story arc that viewers got to see executed from start to finish. Intriguing, for not being traditionally D&D-ish (it's a deposed gunslinger noble taking on the vampires who stole his home). Episode 3 is a big step up in quality over the first two.
I do wonder if the weekly release approach was the right move for this show. It's worked for some of their live-action shows, but it feels this one might have benefitted from a binge drop, or being dropped in 3x4 bursts of episodes.

Apparently I missed the fact that they are doing burst-releases. So they dropped another 3 episodes today, another 3 next Friday and the final 3 after that, which is a reasonable way of doing it.

I like this series a lot. Animation is good, nice balance of anime and western style. Characters have fun challenges to overcome as they develop.
What I love most about it is how it captures the chaos an RPG campaign where some players are super serious and have this complicated backstory, some characters are struggling with who they want their character to be, one guy just wants to kill things, and another just wants to bang the world.
Oh, and one guy wants to play a gunslinger even though there are no guns in the setting.
Most I've enjoyed an RPG based show since Record of Lodoss War.
