Magus Eldritch Archer

Could a ranged magus eldritch archer combine striking spell and eldritch shot?

I think it's not that clear what you mean.

Mind to elaborate your question a little?

3 people marked this as a favorite.

No, spellstrike is their own activity that includes a strike and cast a spell now instead of imbuing the spell to be released on the next strike, so it's impossible to combine.

Thanks!

I'm guessing OP is trying to land two spells and weapon damage with one attack roll.

So no, for a couple of reasons. First there is the subordinate action rules. Eldritch Shot says you make a Strike action after casting the spell. You can't do a Spellstrike in its place. Second, I don't think you could get enough actions for this. Eldritch Shot is already 3 actions, and I think Spellstrike is two more.

I suppose a Magus (who does not specialize in the ranged spellstrike( and maybe even then)) could still profit from eldritch archer

spellstrike still charging but no need to move? eldritch shot
regular shots don'T quite fit the situation - eldritch archer special shots
and dont forget the free magic arrows

I'd consider the archetype more viable for a ranged magus, as an alternative, mostly because a rangeed weapon would be required.

Unless maybe exploiting it by using a bow ( which is 1+ hands ) with an unarmed strike.

I think a fighter or ranger with the eldritch archer archetype is going to average more damage than a magus using ranged weapons.

Trying to combine Magus and Eldritch Archer is likely a mistake. Wouldn't get enough to be worth the cost.

The eldritch shot would be an "extra" for the magus, while the eldritch archer dedication may give him additional stuff that neither a fighter nor a ranged would be able to use because of the actions management.

A ranged magus would perform the strike with 2 actions, in order to also use the precious arrow feat, for example.

Phase arrow would lead to a crit fish once per day with the highest level spell possible, which is great.

Not saying is going to be broken or the best deal, but that a ranged magus may have a nice time with it ( as well as a unarmed magus with a bow in the other hand ).

That was what I thought of, a Laughing Shadow magus who is able to perform two different kinds of effective spellstrike in case they need to mix things up.
