I’m very curious as to the “ideal” cleric for Second Darkness, not mechanically, but purely in terms of relevance to the plot at hand. Reading the player’s guide, it seems like Calistria could be a strong choice, but if y’all were running the AP and one of your players wanted to be a cleric, which deity choice would make you rub your hands with anticipation?

Iomedae could be good, as there is a lot of anti-demon stuff going on.
None are really "ideal" for the campaign as there aren't may strong religious themes to the AP.
Of the non-evil top 20, I would say the only one that is maybe not great would be Nethys, as the plot involves a lot of lost forbidden knowledge, and I could see a Nethys cleric wanting to preserve the magical knowledge as opposed to destroying it.

There aren't many specific religious themes happening in the AP and the constant moving from location to location also significantly cuts down on getting too involved in local worship.
That said, Calistria is a good thematic fit because of her worship among elves and in Riddleport, but also her relationship to revenge. Revenge is the motivating factor of a ton of the NPCs and their paths to revenge often lead them down particularly bad paths through life. That said, this is a thematic fit only. I can't think of any mechanical effect worshiping Calistra would have.

I forced my group to play only elf or half-elves and built an elven pantheon for them. I needed 7 (good number):
Corellon Larethian (from d&d): He is the leader of the elven pantheon, and the god of Magic, Music, Arts, Crafts, Poetry, and Warfare. He is the creator and preserver of the elven race, and governs those things held in the highest esteem among elves.
Alseta: Also known as the Welcomer, Alseta is a goddess of doorways, thresholds, and transitions that is strongly associated with the Aiudara network.
Calistria: The goddess of lust and revenge is held in especially high regard by elves, who often identify witAh her moods and changeable nature.
Cernunnos: Cernunnos presents himself as a muscular elf with dull fur clothes that bear drawings of birds in flight or leaping animals.
Findeladlara :The Guiding Hand is a god of art that is particularly interested in its preservation.
Ketephys: A god of hunting, Ketephys is most often portrayed in the company of his dog Meycho and his hawk Falling Star.
Yuelral: A goddess of crafting, Yuelral the Wise is the only elven goddess to openly encourage her worship by half-elves.
