Help me create a Force / Magic Missile caster.


Advice


I have 4 levels to work with and would like build a Force mage.

His prefers force magic and looks down on other magic as he sees it as the purest essence of Arcane power. He is from a land where humans are born with a innate ability for magic and further looks down on non-magical folks.

He is a perfectionist and I plan to play it off when I roll skills if I get an uneven result even if he succeeds he be like it's not right.

I know he is a human but I am unsure of class

His bread and butter spell with me MM and I the Gm will grant me access to Isaac lesser & greater missle storm. I like damage and stuff like dazimg spell and toppling spell and other fun features


Battering blast is a 3rd level force spell so just outside what you can cast now, and it takes until ~character level 7 to really take off, but it features in absurd damage builds. Since it uses ranged touch attacks it works a bit differently to magic missile.

Anyway you're going to want the spell specialization feat. Note that you can switch the spell specialised in each level, it doesn't have to be fixed to MM. Varisian/mage's tattoo is also an option. You want metamagic reducing traits if you're going for dazing and/or toppling spell.

Wizard is the obvious best class. Arcanist is possible too.

Well wizard seems cool. What school or archetype and should I VMC


There is an aether wizard school that might interest you.
Aether


No VMC, you're going to want feats. Evocation school for extra spell slots in that school is obvious; you can run out of blast spells disturbingly fast. If your group tends to run short adventuring days there are other options.

Edit: OK, aether elemental school works too as the others point out.

if you don't mind being barred from opposition schools entirely (and are OK with evocation as your specialised school) Thassilonian wizard is possible, but vanilla is fine and better rounded.

Your traits are at least one of the metamagic reducers on magic missile, two possibly. Feats could go
1: spell focus (evocation)
Human: spell specialization
Wizard: scribe scroll
3: toppling spell

Magic missile now. Battering blast from charcter level 7 (when you can use Varisian tattoo and spell specialization to make it caster level 10). It's been too long, I can't remember D&D force spells or whether they might be better.

I think thats the big argument for aether specialist, it adds a few higher level force spells from the psychic list to your wizard list.


As a random sidenote. Psychic does have a fair few force ones as well.

If you want to go for damage and a shallow list of spells, that sounds like a sorcerer. Go Orc Bloodline and take the first Blood Mutation and you do +2 damage per dice. Spend your traits on Wayang Magic Hunter (magic missile) and Magical Lineage (magic missile) so you can reduce meta-magic costs twice...

...actually you probably want to do that with Battering Blast. The payoff is a lot better.

Also if you Empower Spell Magic Missile...that gets weird. Normal Magic Missile would be 1d4+2 thanks to bloodline stuff. Empowered would be 1d4+1d2+3 per missile. Average damage goes from 4.5 to 7 per missile. That is a big improvement. If your campaign is going to cut off around 10th level the traits on Magic Missile are probably better than trying to make Battering Blast better. The more beyond 12th level the campaign goes the better Battering Blast will be. Especially if you focus in on anything that will let you improve the casting level of Battering Blast.
