My group is on the edge of a major fight, and I'd like some epic music to go with it.
We've long since worn out the soundtrack for LotR, and the group has heard all of my standby selections--to the point they actually recognized one of my favorite tracks when it was played in a movie trailer.
So we need some new music to set a heroic tone for a battle they might not win. And if not heroism, I'll take music for a desperate struggle against long odds and brutal enemies. Anything appropriate come to mind?

Could just go to Youtube and search 'Epic Battle Music'. Anything from Epic Music Channel should be good. "Where is Your God Now" is new to me but sounds ready to drop into a Pathfinder session.
Quite a few channels for just this sort of thing exist.

Purely Instrumental-
The soundtrack to The Hunt For Red October has some great bits- I'm partial to Nuclear Scam, but the whole soundtrack has good stuff, as befits Basil Poledouris effort.
Likewise, Bear McCreary's Godzilla King of the Monsters soundtrack is awesome. Depending on your group, the Mothra and Godzilla themes might be too well-known to work, but the new Ghidorah Theme is a nice slow-burning piece of epic malice.
The soundtrack to HBO's take on Westworld has some nifty bits- often piano covers of well-known songs, but the original compositions have some goodies to offer.
Frog's Theme off of Chrono Trigger might be a bit more heroic than you want or too recognizable, but it's suitably epic, especially if you can find one of the orchestral versions.
Once Upon a Time in Mexico offers the short but impressive Sands' Theme
The Doctor Who Reboot gave us A Dazzling End, I Am The Doctor, The Cybermen, and All the Strange, Strange Creatures, to name a few personal favorites.

Just thought of this one. If you play it without letting people know the source... this is an amazing song. I literally teared up when I just played it. Weird, right?

Slim Jim wrote:Basil Poledouris's soundtrack to "Conan the Barbarian"/This is the best one!
<nod> "Conan" had a far better soundtrack than it probably deserved. It seems like everything back then did. ("Conan", and similar B-movies such as "The Beastmaster" and "Krull", wouldn't even be remembered today without them.)
I was fortunate enough to see all of the early-80s orchestral-scored pictures in pre-multiplexed theaters. You cannot imagine what it felt like when two-dozen 18" analog cone-speakers in the walls began thundering the timpani opening salvo from "Anvil of Crom". You felt your spine vibrating. Then the french-horns kicked in a few seconds later, and turned you to jelly all over. Then the angelic string crescendo. -- Playing the DVD on a premium 7:1 home rig only gives you a taste of what it was like. Attending a Boston Pops retrospective seated in the auditorium's foci ...that might do it.
<sigh>
That score was Basil's magnum-opus. He did other good stuff (e.g., "Robocop"), but nothing approached the same masterpiece-caliber.

I cannot believe no one has suggested the Immigrant Song by Led Zeppelin
Too upbeat to make it into my wall o'text- even Thor: Ragnarok saved it for when the heroes are unabashedly wrecking face.
Dumb question but how do I make a link?
Using our beloved brackets instead of the parentheses I'm about to use:

As a devotee of his soundtrack to The Hunt For Red October, I see we're due for a sectarian war.

<dons helmet> His score for Hunt was...passable. Sure, it has the choir bein' all patriotic n' stuff (so long as you don't mind Czechs butchering Russian), but the orchestral side of things was bland. Go to 11:48 time-stamp and listen for twenty seconds. ...C'mon, Basil; any sophomore composer can build suspense better than that. (You used to.)

Y'mean the part where he rips off Das Boot'sapproach? I still prefer it to the Conan soundtrack's brutally flogging the same two or three motifs over and over and over and over again as far as anything worth remembering goes, so YOU ARE ENTITLED TO BE WRONG, SIR! PISTOLS AT SUNRISE!
*cough*
Er.... where's something on-topic to post... ah, yeah, here's another suggestion-
Er, no. Not that.
A little something more from Chrono Trigger.
And from Sunshine (another movie where the soundtrack is arguably the best thing about it)
The only part of the 28 Days Later soundtrack that anyone remembers.
