My group is on the edge of a major fight, and I'd like some epic music to go with it.

We've long since worn out the soundtrack for LotR, and the group has heard all of my standby selections--to the point they actually recognized one of my favorite tracks when it was played in a movie trailer.

So we need some new music to set a heroic tone for a battle they might not win. And if not heroism, I'll take music for a desperate struggle against long odds and brutal enemies. Anything appropriate come to mind?

The most effective way of killing high level characters is to drown them. Most players don't think to equip their characters with an (item) of water breathing, most casters won't have a spell that allows breathing underwater prepared, and only a few races can naturally breathe underwater. Water is one of those things players usually don't think to prepare for unless they're playing in a nautical/aquatic campaign.

My idea: Make a huge thing of the Level20's getting prepared to take down the villain, several times stating that with proper preparation they can take on anything. The overconfident Level20's swagger into the villain's lair, tell a PC apprentice to pull that lever, and then are sealed in an anti-magic chamber that rapidly fills with water. The PCs watch as the heroes flail about for a few minutes before drowning, brought down by their own sense of superiority.

When playing 40 years ago the Dm lured my character to remove the huge rubies making up the eyes of a statue, on an island in the middle of a lake of lava. Statue was hollow, I climbed up and pulled the eyes out...

Triggering the anti magic field and filling the statue with lava.

Bastard designed it specifically to kill my character.

What Ryze states is correct. Between Wish and True Resurrection permanently killing a 17+ character is extremely difficult if not impossible.

But maybe a cabal of deities has decided 'man' has gotten out of control ... and all the campaign's high level heroes (and villans) get killed off overnight by the Cabal i.e. they hit the reset button. The squires have to convince at least one deity to reverse their decision.

(Break time over, back later)

Cometary impact. Lvl20s had the lvl 1s follow them through the gate with the pack animals. It was a trap, well really a self destruct, as the Big Bad wanted to take the heroes with him, and knew they would beat him in the end.

Fortunately for the lvl 1s they were not in front of the gate when the blast front shot through it, the city was not so lucky, so now they have to deal with disaster response. One look through the cooling gate showed the heroes were unlikely to be returning.

A couple of two-handed curved blades would include the Chinese dadao, iirc, in the slightly curved section there's the Swiss saber, and there's always the kriegsmesser which is the closest thing to be falchion described in the rules that I can think of. There are so many things that are anti historical in the weapon rules that it's hard to believe
I'm thinking about some House Rules. Has anyone made their own versions of the weapons?
