So being a Starfinder fan can be rough: between the Ninja Division thing and the fact that it's still a new system, it's hard getting people interested. I've had SFS games go "no-show" and I've stared longingly at APs I don't have enough players for.
I get it, I'm not bitter. Pathfinder has been around for a decade and has a huge fan base while Starfinder is barely two years old. Getting people to try new things requires patience and commitment.
One of the people who has most made being a Starfinder fan a little more bearable and has kept the fires burning has been Dan Tharp with his plucky, friendly info blasts on all things Starfinder and Patfinder two days a week. I never miss a Starfinder Wednesday when it comes on Youtube.
Dan has had an out sized effect on the Starfinder Community because, with barely five hardcovers to our game setting, we needed more fluff and more discussion of the setting's locations and races. Dan is the guy who let us hear directly from game designers and writers that gave us actual background about how they saw the world they created and how we can use their creations in our home games. Dan gave us that forum and it's been wonderful.
I can't speak for the Pathfinder side of things but I know how those of us in this side of the setting think of him and it's a big deal that he's stepping away because he means a lot to some of us.
So I can think of no better way to honor him than to let him have a permanent, never ending mark on the Starfinder game setting.
Several weeks ago, Dan had a throw away line in his chat that some of us in the forums have had a good old time laughing about. He made an off hand comment about two conjectured races in a Starfinder video: Otterfolk, which if I remember correctly was part of a discussion about Uplifted Bears, and Platyparians, some sort of alien Platypus race. Some of us on the boards have had a lot of fun about the idea of a race of alien warrior Platypi and space faring Otters. These races, especially Platyparians, became one of the first true Starfinder in jokes.
Well if Dan is leaving, we should let his co-creations join the universe of Starfinder. I don't care how you do it or where they would appear, even if it's just in a Starfinder Society Scenario or the back matter of an upcoming AP, please let some form of Otterfolk and/or Platyparians appear as playable races in Starfinder. I'm not saying make a big deal about it, just add them to the many races of Starfinder's enormous setting in honor of all of Dan's work keeping the fan torches burning bright.
Thank you for your time and I encourage messages of support among other forum posters.

But, but, but...
What about the Morlamaws?
They never leave their planet, clearly they can't be the greatest space water mammal!

And so, the great conflict of our time begins. The Galaxy shall be set alight in a violent conflagration that not even the Swarm or the Azlanti could dare weather peacefully. Whole systems shall be swallowed up in battles that shake the atomic bonds of the stars themselves.
War comes now to the Pact Worlds...THE AQUA MAMMAL WARS HAVE BEGUN!

Can we have the Otterfolk culture be mirrored after the South Park episode where Cartman visits the future and the Otters are fighting against the humans?
Flashback to during the gap. Rahadom, who's desert sands were once a low lying ocean, face reverting to that stage as golarions steampunk industrial revolution causes rising ocean levels.
"Gentleman, we need to dial back on our massive steampunk contraptions. Our clockwork soldiers, clockwork horses, and clockwork workers are producing so much steam the rains are flooding us!"
"Well if we did that our economy would crash. Anyone else have an alternative?"
"Well we could all drink this alchemical potion to turn ourselves into giant otters and just LIVE with the flooding...
"Brilliant! Down the hatch"

You may see one or more of the things mentioned in this thread sooner than you think...
In eager anticipation of potential Platyparians (and Otterfolk), I have tentatively suspended use of my #IDemandPlatyparians username as well as created my -710, named in honor of Dan.
Allow me to reintroduce myself. I am D'Panthra; Witchwarper Platyparian, hopeful Second Seeker, champion of Platyparian admission into the Starfinder Society, friend of Otterfolk, champion of their inclusion as well.

May I offer you some milk? It's delicious and helpful for fighting off disease.

So let me get this straight; the otterfolk would be regular otters that have been uplifted by science, ala uplifted bear, and the platyparians would bean alien race that happens to resemble platapi, ala pahtra& vlaka?
That's sort of what some of us gleaned from their conversation, yes.

Acceptable.
Honestly I've kinda been curious as to how uplifted animals and coincidentally animal like aliens view each other, and if one's ever mistaken for the other by other aliens. So I wouldn't mind that seeing that dynamic played into a rivalry/epic space war between the otterfolk & the platyparians.

Can we also have the "Heck Knights"
And who ever does the iconic for otterfolk has to base them on Benedict Cumberbatch.
No, if you're basing any animal-based alien race on Benedict Cumberbatch, it has to be penguins.

If we see both Platyparian and Otterfolk as playable races I will fully embrace the need for an unofficial ambassador to liaise between the aquatic mammalian species. I can see Profession (Aquatic Mammilian Liaisons [CHA]) on my character sheet.
“Hey team! Sorry I’m late. The Platyparian/Otterfolk Weaponized Engagements Reduction Council (That’s POWER Council for short) got a little heated when one of the Platyparian delegates accidentally spilled a glass of sweat milk, drenching a nearby Otterfolk delegate’s raw fish fillet. Things got pretty tense and negotiations over the use of venom spurs in the Puddles district for food procurement should constitute discharging a weapon in public. Anyway, we still haven’t resolved the issue, but we’ve agreed to table the topic until after this mission.
Oh hi, Fitch?! How are the kids? I brought some sweat milk and donuts leftover from the meeting for them.”

I like how so far Starfinder hasn't done too straight animalistic races. Vlaka have their blindness/deafness gig. Pathra are not just cats, they have the whole asexual/individualism thing going on. Uplifted bears are telepathic.
My first thought of platyparians was that they could be a mammalianish species that had truly evolved in zero-G, and is hence just as weird compared to "crawling" species.
