Hot tub advice

Rules Questions

Any suggestions on how I could build a bathtub for pathfinder which can magically heat the water? Totally for fun and ambiance.

Thanks!

Well, custom magic item covers this pretty reasonably. Have a metal tub with either a command word activation or continual activation of something like produce flame.

Command word: Spell level x caster level x 1,800 gp
Use-activated or continuous: Spell level x caster level x 2,000 gp

So just heat up the bottom of the metal tub anytime you want the water to be warm. You could also talk to your GM. might be able to convince them of something cheaper.

prestidigitation - "It can chill, warm, or flavor 1 pound of nonliving material."

One pound of water is basically - pardon my conversion to civilized measure - a half litre. A typical tub is about 300 litres, so you're looking at 600 rounds of casting, which is an hour. This works since the duration of the spell is also one hour. Once nice and warm, the tub would maintain the temperature by warming one half litre every six seconds. Once you're done, shutting off the magic item would then take an hour for everything to cool once again.

Interestingly, the spell could also clean the water, at a much more rapid rate. 1 cubic foot is just shy of 30 litres, so it'd take just over one minute. It couldn't make it drinkable if it wasn't already, because it can't duplicate purify food or drink, but simply removing dirt should be fine.

Sounds like at-will pestidigitation tub. 1,000gp I'd think, plus the price of the tub.

If you're looking for anything larger than a standard tub, the volume of water makes heating it this way prohibitive. Still, it might be economical to make the magic items be inserts. Having three small magic heating stones in a 900L tub would still work, at triple the price.

Bubbles not included.

Bathtub, Collapsible

Price 15 gp; Weight 20 lbs.

After 10 minutes of assembly, this collection of wooden slats provides support for a cylindrical watertight canvas cloth. It can hold enough water to allow 1 Medium creature to bathe in comfort without any of the risks that might come from entering lakes, rivers, or other bodies of water.

I think there’s a hot water tub in the first book of mummy’s mask. Not sure if it’s statted out though.

Variant cauldron of brewing:

Hot Tub of Relaxation

Aura faint transmutation; CL 5th
Slot none; Price 3,000 gp; Weight 100 lbs.

Description
A hot tub of relaxation looks like a finely made bronze bathtub with four stout legs. The hot tub is capable of heating any liquid placed in it to a precise temperature (anywhere from just above room temperature to slightly below scalding) and maintaining it indefinitely while still remaining only slightly warm to the touch on the outside. Bathing in a hot tub of relaxation allows a character to recover from fatigue and/or exhaustion twice as quickly as normal.

Construction
Requirements Craft Wondrous Item, creator must be trained in Craft (Alchemy); Cost 1,500 gp

Just the thing to recover from a long day of dungeon-crawling...

Make a Bathtub of Flying by combining a Cauldron of Flying and a Hot Tub of Relaxation.

If I can't adventure in my bathtub, I'm not going to adventure! That is a character concept I could get behind.

We need a rubber duck of wondrous power to go with this though.

Why do I automatically assume it is a bloat mage?

A waxwork construct seems like it could be close enough to a rubber duck.

Due to the unpleasantness of pruned skin the flying bathtub's occupant would probably be aquatic, I could see a merfolk who dislikes shapeshifting or wriggling around on land inelegantly aiming for this.

You guys are most excellent. The rubber duck of wondrous power made my day!

Shadow Lodge

I feel like heat metal would be a good basis for this.

There are also Heatstones that are a non-magical rock that can produce a comfortable (not cook you alive, or burn the house down) alternative.
They cost a measly 20 gp and can heat a tub for 24 hours.

I could see myself putting that hot tub in a pocket dimension so I can have a soak and relax even when I'm in a dungeon :)

Me: <scooping bubbles and putting them on my face>

Party: "Ryze, the BBEG's coming get out here"

Me: "NO. AND RIGHT NOW MY NAME ISN'T RYZE ITS CAPTAIN BUBBLEBEARD"

Party: "Dude, you can't just sit in your hot tub all day"

Me: "YES I CAN. <squeezes rubber duck of wondrous power>"

Liberty's Edge

Be wary if you find a rubber duck in a dungeon:
Duck of Doom.
