So we're having a gingerbread house contest in homeroom. My kids decided to go for "tallest."
Student: looks at tower ...Ms. Scint? What's that word from Greek theatre stuff where the characters are really convinced they're all that, and then stuff goes down?
Me: Hubris?
Student: Yeah, that's it. That's what that tower makes me think of.
five minutes later, it falls over
what about hamartia?

Heheh,
Was never a KISS fan myself (or really,, a fan of most of the 80's bands, when I was actually, you know, IN the 80's)
Although recently I have re-discovered a lot of stuff that I missed out on being picky in the 80's. ;P
But the only reason I know that some songs I (sort of) recognize are from KISS is from things like the fairly recent Scooby Doo & KISS movie.
SO silly, SOO bad it was actually good. I laughed so hard I cried.
But seeing Cartoon-KISS and the Scooby Gang rocking out to KISS tunes was/is totally worth it! ;)
And they actually gave both the KISS gang and the Scooby Gang some decent one-liners!
A couple that recall:
<The Demon is fussing at Velma for touching his BAss/Axe>
Demon- "Hey! Don't touch that!"
Velma- "Why? Because it's powered by 'magic'?"
Demon- "No. Because it costs more than your house!"
<Both the Gang and KISS realize that the only way to stop the haunting of the theme park is for KISS to make 'Too much Rock & Roll'>
KISS guys- But I don't know if even we can make that much Rock!
Velma- <sarcastic, NOT a Rock/KISS fan> "Hey. YOU are KISS. If ANYone can make 'Too Much Rock', it's you guys!"
Meh, enough on that.
ANYWay, yes, I too only recently realized that songs I sort of recognize were actually KISS songs.
Who knew? ;P

I am much more a fan of KISS's 70s catalog than I am their 80s and onward. I've seen them in concert 7 times, twice on their first farewell tour. But I've gotten really tired of Gene Simmons' politics and the silly sniping they still do at Peter Criss and Ace Frehley. So I'll just listen to the "Double Platinum" LPs and occasionally check out one of their 80s' albums every once in a while and forget about the stuff that bugs me.

So I found this.. I also found it surprising that Starfinder was outselling Pathfinder 2e.

So I may have caused a Thing.
In my constitution class, a few of the seniors were complaining that there's nothing to do in town. Having just finished the lesson about the importance of civic engagement and giving back, I asked them why they didn't come up with something to fill that need since they knew better than most what was missing. They got really quiet for a few minutes.
Today, one of them walks in and, before I have the chance to say anything, starts writing on the board. He'd been researching expenses - they want to open a gaming bar.
So I told them I'd delay our review/test till next week, and we spent the hour talking through ideas and such. I'm...kind of surprised/impressed at how seriously they're taking this.

*sigh*
Dad called, and of course during the call he had to turn the talk toward tin-foil fringe theories.
*sigh* again
He seems to believe every damn snake-oil salesman and pseudo-scientists he ever views in TV or on internet...
Drejk, I can only give you a knowing look and nod my head. My dad was the same way in his later years.

My kind of day!
(And I dont even LIKE beer!) ;P
Of course, MY particular brand of sword-fighting is 'staged combat', meaning we actively plan the entire thing so that it looks cool, and no one gets hurt so we can do the show again the next day!
But still,... SWORDFIGHTING! YAY!

I bought some new pillows - and they might be part of the issue.
One was fine for a night, followed by day of devastating neck-and-back-of-skull headache, then worked fine for a time after my neck get accustomed to it, then it was followed by a period when it had a lot of issues, and now it's barely tolerable with combination with some other pillows. Another one seems fine for five to ten minutes, and then I feel like I laid my head on a stone.
I have some problems with back (a mild degree of scoliosis) that is probably the main source of issue.
| Ragadolf |
Wow, that stinks.
As I get older my bad posture (some of which is caused by needing to update my glasses prescription, but not all of it by any means) has gotten worse. To the point where I even have bad posture while sleeping apparently. ;P
I'm FINE while sleeping on my back, but as I get older, I start snoring more, and I have to sleep on my side, where my neck bends thinking it is getting more comfortable, but is really only pinching a nerve. (LOUSY way to wake up!)
WHen you figure out how to solve this dilemma, please let me know! I need the advice!
:)

I can't fall sleep on my back unless I am really exhausted. I just simply can't, to do point where on some night when I didn't wanted to fall asleep (because I had to get in the middle of the night anyway), I deliberately laid on my back and stayed awake for hour.
And also, it occasionally gives me a headache if the pillow set up is not perfectly in tune with my neck or back, and I still hadn't cracked the code of what that perfect set up is. On the other hand, I had no interest in sleeping on my back so I didn't try really hard to crack it.
It gets weirder when I twist and take more exotic postures - then I can occasionally fall asleep while on my back, with some weird turn of head, or aforementioned mythical perfect pillow set up... Then I do fall asleep (or more often and with easier requirements to meet, doze off for a hour or two and then wake up).

Have you tried adding one or more body pillows into the mixture?

I spent around three hours sleeping on the new pillows today. They were ok-ish, for now, though the bigger one is probably too small and too thin, while the smaller is... Well, smaller than I would prefer. I could sleep, but I woke after three hours developing a mild base-of-the-skull headache that is already waning.
Turning to the left side was an issue, as clearly my spine has quite different demands to support in different positions.

I went to sleep from late morning to afternoon today, after building a tall pile of pillows. It was surprisingly decent sleep. I am only a bit light-headed now.
The problem is that building such pile is an art instead of science, hard to replicate, and it doesn't really last for the length of the night...
Also, it strains lower back, but less so than much more horizontal position strains head and neck...
The quest for sleep shall continue later today*
*also know as tomorrow, once I go back to bed again
