Fun moment from our Strange Aeons Campaign:
Player: "How hard can one ghoul be?"
...shortly before that player's character was eviscerated by a lone Leng Ghoul.
:)
Reminds me of a campaign from about 16 years ago. "You see an ogre and 10 orcs." Rogue player says "I've got him" and sneaks in behind the ogre. Rogue does lots of damage. Ogre turns around. Ogre smiles. Ogre Barbarian 10 rages. Rogue drops.

Heh.
One of the things I like about this hobby is that it provides one of the rare occasions in life when you can get an exact numerical answer to the question: “How bad could it be?”

Thinking I might take this coming weekend off and not run my game. We play every two weeks and this Saturday is next in the schedule but I'm just not feelin' it. I have some weighty issues on my mind and haven't even thought of what I might run my players on. I'm hesitant, though, as it means we won't get together at all in November if I don't run something. The next weekend that we'd be scheduled is the 22nd, but I have non-game plans that weekend. I reckon if I can't come up with something by this time tomorrow I'll send up the nerd signal that it's a game-free Saturday.

A pinched/crushed nerve is usually a constant phenomenon (the vertebrae is subluxated and the disc crushing the nerve in a way it's not supposed to and needs to be resolved by a professional realigning the vertebrae). If it's very sharp pain that can feel like it "pulls" and worsens from movement in certain direction, it's muscle strain/sprain that should be treated with ice, anti-inflammatories, gentle stretching (for head neck: gently turn your head as far as you can go, aiming for your chin being parallel with your shoulder, hold a few seconds, turn to the other side; then repeat, but while tucking your chin down, roll your head frontwards to switch to the other side; then for the third stretch aim to lay your ear on your shoulder on both sides, hold each side a few seconds. In each your moves should be gentle and you should not force your head any further you can go without causing great pain--the goal of "laying your ear on your shoulder" or "turning your head to look along your shoulder" are goals and if you can only move your head very slightly, that's fine--just go as far as you can feeling a "good" stretch, not "bad" pain. Shoulders should be relaxed.
After some healing, massage can also help if you can afford it.

Update: My mother thinks that I pulled a muscle in my back somehow. Growing old sucks. L(
Yes.
Yes it does.>_<
Once, long ago (Did I mention Im an OLD wizzie?!?) ;P
I picked up a set piece the WRONG way, and felt a disk slip out. Like, ALL the way out. Which was about as much fun as it sounds. I spent the next week feeling like my disk was slicing my spinal cord in half. So, much, pain. (I went through Tylenol like candy)
Went to visit my then-girlfriend/Now-wife at college, and an 'adult' (middle-age mother who was returning to school) who was a friend of my girl heard me complaining about the pain. Apparently she had been to the chiropractor. A lot. So she popped it back into place. Emphasis on POP.
It made such a loud noise that I was afraid to move. My girl came over and asked if I was ok, very concerned. (it was that loud.)
I replied, "NO! I think she broke me!"
:)
To this day, I am VERY careful about my back (as I can be, stage combat and theater tech) as if I lift something wrong I can slip it out again. I call that disc my 'weak breaker'.
;P
SHORT version: Take care of yourself John!

Mostly just going by that because that's what my mom said it was, and as she's a physical therapist I tend to assume she knows what she's talking about.
I spent most of that night using a traction headrest to stretch my neck and spine some and wearing a neck brace, and that seemed to take the worst of the edge off of whatever-it-was at the time. It's just been sore and achey since, especially when I move in certain ways or move too fast.

Well by all means, you should listen to your mother, not just because she's a physical therapist, but also because she's your mom.
(By way of explanation, I have heard people mention a "pinched nerve" when it is not that thing, but of course I should not presume. I apologize for my pathological need to offer unsolicited advice to strangers on the Internet, and will try to do better.)

How was everyone’s weekend?
Here things were good. The puppy continues to be hilarious. She somehow retrieved a knife and left it on the couch when we were out. Like a Sicilian message...
I don't think that was the puppy...this smells like Monkey Santa's doing. If anyone's leaving a message, it's him.

My weekend wasn't anything special. I canceled my game because I was really not able to work on anything all of last week and just couldn't muster up the energy to wing something. My son was on the road all weekend with his band so I just laid around the house scoffing at the dishes that I should've been doing...lol.
Hmm...pups and monkeys with knives. I'd start locking up the cutlery.

Still say its just a matter of time before Monkey Santa is riding that poor pup through the house, crying
"FREEEEEDOOOOOOMM!!!"
I don't recall that happening in any of the King Kong movies. I could see it happening in a Planet of the Apes adaptation though. But until it does, I don't think Monkey Santa will understand that reference.

Heh. Just caught the puppy standing on the table next to the cat's tree.
She's getting up there. It's when, not if.
I can see the wheels turning. "If I just jump here... and avoid tipping the center of gravity too far to my left... and delicately land... then whatever is up there that smells delicious will be mine..."
Those are, of course, my crude words. What's probably really going on involves long calculus equations and spiffy looking graphs.

So... I was joking about the puppy getting my wallet... until this morning... when I woke up... to find it on her bed.
There were dozens of things she could have taken. It took actual forethought and choice to pick my wallet. It was NOT the low-hanging fruit.
I guess I'll see what shows up on the porch in the next few days...

I'm telling you, Monkey Santa doesn't like the new dog. Trying to frame her.
