I've recently played several Starfinder Society adventures. On one of those adventures, I managed to grab a few items (Clearsight Goggles and two Mk 2 Healing Serums).
My question: do I need to purchase those items off the chronicle sheet to "officially" have them, or did my character have them as soon as he picked them up?

You have those items until the end of the scenario (and may use up consumables before then). At the end of the scenario, rather than dividing up individual items, all players will get credits on their chronicle sheets. In order to permanently possess an item, you will need to buy it with your earned credits.

Ah, that clears things up. Thanks!

If you had not found them, the scenario often instructs the GM to subtract their value from the credits earned on the chronicle sheet.
So you used them in the mission and then the party turned everything over to the Starfinder Society quartermaster's office. You each received a credstick for your share and a receipt allowing you to "buy back" those items from the quartermaster's office at a later date.
