Pathfinder and Dungeon Masters Guild

General Discussion

I did a research, but I couldn’t find any topic about this.

Has there been any talk of creating something similar to the 5e Dungeon Masters Guild for Pathfinder second edition?

Something that would allow users to create content using Paizo Intellectual Property?

You already have the OGL allowing people to create things based on the mechanics. That was, in fact, how Pathfinder 1 and 2 were created originally.

But, and I'm not speaking for Paizo here, I doubt that you'll see Paizo open up Golarion for others to play in and publish stuff about. They seem rather protective of that. They do have some avenues open to fan-made non-commercial things, but if you want to charge for Golarion, you're going to need a specific license.

Also, there could possibly be issues combining the different licenses. For example, you can't use anything created under the OGL in a DM's Guild product, because anything you make based on the OGL have to also be OGL, and I can't release an OGL product on DM's Guild.

I am hopeful Paizo adjusts their licensing to allow a DMs guild equivalent for PF1 content. Specifically, I would like to see them allow 3PPs to publish PF1 PFS scenarios after Paizo discontinues their own content for that system. I think it would be a win win scenario for all involved. Paizo can continue to make money off PF1 and the part of the community who would like to see PF1 PFS continue after launch of PF2 will still get new content. Paizo could even limited the pool of 3PPs. Allow folks like Sean K Reynolds, Wolfgang Bauer, Owen or any other superstar content creators to dip back into old school Golarion and allow the best online gaming community to continue to thrive.

You also don't need to make OGL products if you are making it for DM's guild.

That aside, I pray that all books Paizo makes remain OGL. WotCs 'only the core stuff is OGL' model is irksome.

Well, DM's Guild has some other limitations.

The first, especially if you're considering OGL as well, is that it's separate from the OGL ecosystem. So if you want to include a monster from, say, the Scarred Lands Creature Collection - you can't.

The second is that DM's Guild content is exclusive to DM's Guild. You're not allowed to sell that same book in a store.

Third, you can't publish your own setting via DM's Guild - only generic material plus Forgotten Realms, Ravenloft, and Eberron material.

Fourth, OneBookShelf and Wizards take 50% of the sale price. I believe it's normally about 30% if you sell exclusively at OneBookShelf, so that's an additional 20%.

I would be specificallly interested in using the Golarion setting and the lore that has been accumulated in all of these years. For example, setting an adventure is Sandpoint and using already well established NPCs.

Oh well, I guess that this will never happen. But one can always dream ;)
