Welcome back! We'll get started in a few days. Same deal as before with the info in your header.
Wilhelm Scream
|
It was Quest for Perfection Part 1. Wilhelm was the the closest that the party had to a tank. Wilhelm was also the most fool-hardy, making charge attempts any chance he could get. The party consisted of Wilhelm, a lvl 1 rogue, lvl 3 ninja, lvl 2 wizard and lvl 1 pre-gen cleric.
I was doing well, rolling hits most of the time. But on the final encounter, I was brought almost to death on the first hit. I poked my head around a corner to scan the scene, and the GM had the big baddie nail me with a readied action. That was my contribution to the final fight.
It also didn't help that the GM seemed to never roll anything lower than a 15. :-)
| EndlessForms |
Sorry for the delay in starting. There has been a death in the family and I've been scrambling to get as much done as possible so I can leave tomorrow to go home for a while. I'll update as soon as possible, perhaps tomorrow afternoon after I drive home.
| EndlessForms |
Thanks everyone. My grandpa has been declining for some time. I just got home and settled a few hours ago so I'll be in LaPorte until next Wednesday probably.
Gameplay thread is open now!
| EndlessForms |
I'll be heading back to Bloomington on Wednesday and then things should pick back up. Thanks for being patient everyone.
| EndlessForms |
Good to hear Hawk.
Should we just scrap this scenario for another time? It seems everybody has a lot of stuff going on right now. Way of the Kirin on the other hand is on a time limit.
If you guys are ready for Way of the Kirin I can do that. I just arrived in Bloomington so my posting should be back to normal now.
| EndlessForms |
Ok, I'll start Way of the Kirin up soon. That works better for everyone I think.
| EndlessForms |
Poof! Now this campaign is Way of the Kirin. I'll update the gameplay thread some time this afternoon.

GM Endless, I have updated my profile for shopping. I can post the pretty-much final list if you’re interested, but I am not sure if you are or not. Thank-you for the feedback, guys!
… that one won't find on Wikipedia. ;)
Curses! He’s onto me. ;)
“… Shan and Shin …”
What? Nobody’s commented on the GM’s awesomeness here?
Shin and Shan … it’s like Yin and Yang! ☯☯☯☯☯☯☯☯☯☯☯☯Shinkeer posted this on the Severing Ties board, but I’m guessing this will go inactive soon.
I have spent the past five out of eight work days in … attics.
Of course! Why didn’t I realize this before? Shinkeer is a ninja in real life!

Shan & EF, can a temple sword be used in a flurry of blows? HeroLab lists it that way, but of course it's not listed in the flurry description. Based on the new errata, is it any weapon that has the monk descriptor?
Also, if we think it is needed, I'll be happy to purchase Oil of Daylight as well..or any other suggestions.
Shan Pangu

A temple sword can be used in flurry of blows since it has the Monk weapon descriptor. That's the whole reason I bought mine. Silver & slashing, baby.
The thing to remember is that all Monk weapons can be used with flurry of blows, but not all monks (the class) are proficient in Monk Weapons. (example rope dart).
Shinkeer Aswander
|
Ok, that was what I thought, but not being sure, I only have been using my staff for flurries. Need to upgrade my sword then.
Shinkeer Aswander

Finalized Shin's purchases.
Courtier's Outfit - 30gp
Jewelry - 50 gp
Oil on Shillelagh - 50 gp
Oil Bless weapon - 50 gp
Masterwork CI Temple Sword - 360 gp
Potion of Fly - 2PP

Sahrek?
Are elderly Vulcans legal for PFS play?
I’ll have to look into buying a copy of the Animal Companions book then.
Shinkeer, If you want to get the Oil of Daylight, I will get a scroll of Remove Blindness/Deafness x5 instead (probably more useful for the cleric to have this). Let me know if this is OK.
I assume you're OK with this GM Endless?
Desmond Aesculus

Luisila - here is the story behind Sahrek's name. Desmond was in a scenario with an alchemist named Ezrek and a witch/sorcerer named Sahar. Anyway, some bad druish juju caused those two to start turning into lycanthropes. After that scenario, Des got hid animal companion - a wolf. So he decided to name the wolf in honor of his two friends.
Luisila
|
Wow! That is a fantastic story, Desmond!
If the scenario is the one I’m thinking of, I have played it …
Luisila’s first adventure in PFS was with a sorcerer named Mr Ezrek Filosten, esq. I wonder if he’s related to the alchemist? :) ;)
Shan Pangu
|
That's the one Luisila. We all played it under Endless's merciless hand.
He says that he belongs to someone named Ezrek Filosten. I thought he might have meant old Ez-rek. Do you know what he's talking about?
That wizard is just a crazy old man. That'll be the end of it.
Luisila
|
Desmond is examining a +1 dog-collar around Sahrek’s neck, when *suddenly* a beam of light shoots out of the wolf’s eyes.
In the light appears an image of a half-elven woman in long, white robes. Her dirty blonde hair is woven into an unusual bun-style on either side of her head.
She says, “My GM will know how to retrieve it. You must see this wolf safely delivered to him in Absalom. This is our most desperate hour!”
Before continuing ... “Save me, Ezrek Filosten! You’re my only hope!”
She appears to pat the wolf’s head and before the image fades, you *might* get the impression of a skull-faced villain in black full-plate approaching her from the background ...

I, like, totally forgot I put ranks in Intimidate. (flipping his braid back in a Valley Girl fashion).
I guess I needed 1 social skill and that benefited Des too!

Mike, if I need to, can Shan play in a PFS game tonight? We haven't gotten very far here. I would probably only use him if it was a Tournment of the Phoenix scenario. It is pretty last minute as we are bringing in a new guy into the fold.

Shinkeer also purchases a bandolier to put all the oils, potions and flasks in. (Also because he secretly wants to be like Shan.)

Thunder fills the night sky as torrential rain lashes Ustalav’s most cursed ruin, the Gallowspire – tomb of the Whispering Tyrant! A sudden lightning flash illuminates two figures facing off at the monument’s summit.
A skull-faced giant in black full plate speaks calmly and evenly – the rich bass of his voice clearly audible over the elemental roar.
“I can feel your anger, it gives you focus, makes you stronger ... Give in to the Scarzni side, Desmond!"
The plucky young tough in the new explorer’s outfit makes no reply except to draw his father’s Masterwork Cold Iron Greatsword. The dark lord draws a +6 shocking crimson burst, vorpal katana in return.
Blades fly and clash through the downpour. The boy tries strength, finesse and acrobatics in his attempt to penetrate the defenses of his nemesis, but the end-result is never in doubt … a mistimed parry allows the Sith knight’s blade to slice cleanly through the young man’s wrist. Right hand and blade hurtle downwards into the gloom.
“It’s over, Desmond … but join me and together we can rule Golarion together!”
The boy shouts defiantly, “Never! You killed my alchemist!”
The monster pauses, before tearing off his skull mask, revealing Osirion features and a black goatee.
“No, Desmond. I AM your alchemist!"
Desmond slips backwards over the spire’s edge: “Nnooooooooooooooooooooooo ….”
Hang in there, buddy!

“Yes, Ezrek is a great guy as well as being a real team player. I have been fortunate enough to have completed two missions with him.”
As the party heads back to turn in for the night, Luisila is flagged down by a quiet man. He hands her an envelope and walks away without a word. Examining the envelope, Luisila see the words Eyes Only stamped in red letters across the front. Opening the envelope she finds a letter with the Decemvirate watermark on it.
This is a cease and desist order from the Decemvirate. You are to stop all slanderous libel against Field Operative Filosten. He is currently in deep cover in an undisclosed location in Varisia. Your slanderous accusations run the risk of ruining Agent Filosten's bad boy image and street cred. If you continue, you run the risk of being tried for insubordination.

What is your policy on PbP boons? I have a few that might be helpful here, but can’t really prove it to you. I have a hard-copy character folio, boons for Evoking Day (+5 Spellcraft/Arcana) and from owning/reading Queen of Thorns, Master of Devils, City of the Fallen Sky and Death’s Heretic.
Is the honor system good enough? I could write out the relevant boons for you in gameplay/discussion. If it’s too hard – no worries! Let the dice fall where they may! :)

I'm only counting 6 rooms. There is no "light room"
I see what you’re saying, it’s not ‘written’ on the map, but the GM refers to a ‘Light Room’ in his text …
The only rooms that need to be searched are the ones with names on the map (Entry, Great Hall, Kitchen, Lighthouse Storage, Spare Room, Master Bedroom, and Lightroom).
IF there is a Light Room, I’m guessing it’s the bottom round map – the top of a light house.
Can you please help us out here, GM Endless?
| EndlessForms |
Sorry, unexpectedly busy couple of days.
Boons are fine, I can trust that you have them.
The "Light Room" is the room at the top of the lighthouse. It is labelled now.

Instead of cluttering up Game Play, I’ll post the results of the rough spreadsheet I did here. Maybe we can roleplay the discussion and carrying out tasks in Game Play??

Very nice, Luisila. You have everything down to the very minute. Most impressive.
Couple of questions:
GM, does Luisila actually need to spend time boiling water? We all know you just throw the pot on and it'll boil by itself.
While we have time build the catapult, is it worth the time to set up? Honestly, I would rather just have an archer or two up there raining hell down upon the onslaught. Unless this is a Helm's Deep situation. Also all Crating checks are at a -2 for lack of proper tools, unless we found some carpenter's tools.
I personally don't know much about light houses and their lamps. But is there away that we can focus the light and beam it at oncoming enemies, perhaps blinding them or slowing them down? Just an out of the box thought.
Or what if we used the lantern oil along the outside of the house around the windows to force them in through the front door. I don't think lighting the lamp is worth while. Yes it improves lighting conditions, but it would benefit them more this us, right?
Defiantly want to barricade the door into the light house. Also if we can pinch off a doorway instead of a window that might be better use of time/materials. Such as the door into the kitchen, door between the main hall and the round table. Are we able to close off stairways?
How much attention to we want to pay to the cliff side of the house? Guess we should be aware if they come in like the SWAT team or flying monkeys.
Let's keep the brain storming going.

I agree, well done Luisila. I had the same thought about the boiling water. I gotta think the catapult might come in handy, though where does it go when its assembled? (just saw L's note about that.)

Thanks for the comments!
Without getting too metagamey about it (Ok, Ok, Who am I kidding? ;) I think the tasks are just a game mechanic to try and boost Defence Points (DP) = Easier to Defeat the Golden League strike-force.
So the “Lamp Lighting” probably gives +n DP’s.
I agree with Shan, we could probably think of some cooler stuff than just “light a lighthouse” lamp in the allocated time, but the issue is whether the GM will give us DPs for doing this or not? Also, without the light, I guess it’s easier for enemies to sneak up on us out of the fog.
Gotta say, I really like the catapult idea. I mean, how often do you get to fire a catapult at the enemy in Pathfinder, let alone PFS? tee hee I guess the decision is do we want to risk failing the initial checks and wasting a lot of time on this? Also, not sure where to put it – top floor of the house, firing out of (south?) windows?? (I can’t see the map right now)
I agree with the barricading comments – especially keeping them out of the lighthouse, and channelling them through the front door. Is it worthwhile starting to write some boxes on the map, Shan? Desmond’s Grand Hall seemed to have some priority windows(?) that need barricading as well.
I agree with Shan about the SWAT team on the north side of the house. Even Luisila will know the “Tien-Xia Aspis” will probably have ninjas, right?
Luisila has a one-shot +5 (I think – I’ll check tonight, GM Endless) Tien-Xia Linguistics/Knowledge (Nobility) boon if you want me to aid another on the crest thing, Shan.

So, I need to familiarize myself with catapult mechanics, but it seems the most useful spot for it would be the top of the lighthouse. I mean, we can't use it inside - right? If the light is lit and provides us with better sight to get the baddies, then I think that thing can be pretty effective.
I think it would be useful to barricade the two huge windows in the grand hall. Even though I think they face the the ocean, I'd hate to have some evil muthas coming through there and surprising us.
Depending on what I find in the lava tubes, I think funneling them into the Grand Hall is a good idea. We can prepare the murder holes above where the entry way joins the Grand Hall. I marked it on the map. The Grand Hall provides us with the most room to maneuver.
That's what I have for now.
