Frightened condition

General Discussion

“Frightened: You take a conditional penalty equal to this value to your checks and saving throws.”

Which checks though? All of them?

I would like clarification on this as well. I think it should affect attack rolls, but it is not clear if it does. If it does not affect attack rolls, then the Demoralize action for fighter-type characters is almost useless.

CHECKS, p290 wrote:
The GM will call upon you to attempt a check whenever you need to resolve a conflict or test your aptitude at a particular task or challenge. Examples include any attempt to attack another creature in combat, using skills, and resisting the effects of a dangerous spell that has been cast upon you.

Another instance of a relevant piece of information not being in the same section as a rule involving it, but its still there

There's also the issue of difficulty class being modified by all things that would modify a check based on the same attribute and whether or not that means that AC is thus modified by something that modifies all checks.

"Determine the Difficulty Class" on page 291 is my source of confusion on that topic.

They actually said in the live stream today that because the same proficiency that is used in checks gets used to set DCs, that a penalty to checks like Frightened affects AC as well (and I am guessing enemy spell DCs, etc, it affects EVERYTHING). They are apparently going to reword those sections.

Frightened applies to ALL checks and DCs, including stuff like AC, saves, attack rolls, skill rolls, spellcasting rolls, spell DCs, etc

It's basically a - x to everything.

I had it asking for Errata (to be more clear) but it was also clarified like 1 day ago during the live stream as a direct answer to the exact same question.

Same thing happens with Sick as well.

They are basically the "debuff everything" conditions, hence why they have mechanics to lower them (round by round for Frightened, belching for Sick)

I'm glad that's been cleared up at least. That makes conditions much less interesting.
