Signature skill seems to be an useless limit

Signature skills! Why?

Is that helpful for balance the game?

Could not be replaced with a limit of skill that could be master or legendary for any class?

My proposal seems to give an higher number of possibility without breaking the game.

as i said before, PF1 did it well with Class Skills – a nudge towards a specific skillset but ultimately easy to ignore.


I'm wondering if signature skills, instead of being the only ones you can master or become legendary in, could be reimagined as skills which are instead simply easier for you to master.

Like "Signature skills increased to expert automatically become master-level skills at a certain level".

I feel like it's important for people to be able to opt out of training in signature skills they do not want (e.g. non-religious or atheist monks eschewing training in religion), so only boosting the ones people have deliberately invested in seems enough of a bonus.

Why not just have signature skills be a proficiency boost.

Monk is trained in 3+int skills at level 1 plus having Acrobatics/Athletics/Religion as signature skills.

Why not just change that wording to something like:
Monk is trained in Acrobatics/Athletics/Religion and has 3+int skill proficiency boosts.

So if you chose to, you could start with Expert in Acrobatics/Athletics and then be trained in 2 other skills.

The later features that let you bump skill proficiency would then not need any of the wording regarding master or legendary signature skills. They are then just proficiency boosts and can apply to any skill and would still do their intention of only allowing certain skills to be able to make it up to legendary.
