Quick glance attacks of opportunity?

Liberty's Edge

At a very quick first glance it seems they're gone and that only fighters get them?

Someone else mentioned the 'doughnut of death' for reach so no AoO when entering a reach area either?

Doughnut of death refers to the area a 1e reach weapon CANNOT attack. Once an enemy gets inside your reach, you're dead.

From the Classes presented, yes, only Fighters (and classes that take the Fighter Multiclass Archetype and the Opportunist Feat) get Attack of Opportunity. They get 1, and they can get another by taking Combat Reflexes later on.

Some monsters (like for example, the Barghest) get Attacks of Opportunity as well.

Regarding Reach weapons:

- There were never Attacks of Opportunity for entering an area of Reach, only for leaving it. But if the guy you want to hit has 10ft reach, and you have 5, you're gonna have to go through a threatened square to get to him, and thus get attacked.
- The doughnut of death was the area inside the 10ft reach (aka, the 8 squares adjacent to the guy with the reach weapon) where he couldn't attack you because Reach weapons couldn't hit adjacent targets. That's gone now, since Reach weapons can hit adjacent targets just fine in this edition.

Hope it helps.

I'm confused as to why the combat chapter spends so much time explaining reactions to movement, when there are so very few opportunity attacks in the game.

I posted this cause I only saw the fighter was the one that gets AoOs?

Paladin can get them as well. 6th level feat for them.

A lot guards will probably be fighters.

where does it say what "provokes" an AoO? Again I just did a quick glance of the pdf. I haven't picked up my printed copy of the playtest book yet.

The Attack of Opportunity reaction has a Trigger-line:

Attack of Opportunity wrote:
Trigger A creature within your reach uses a manipulate action or a move action, makes a ranged attack, or leaves a square during a move action it’s using.
