The example in Deadly weapon quality states that master quality weapon deals two listed dice on critical hit, but the example states that master quality rapier does additional 2d6 damage, not 2d8. I suppose that's a mistake.

Also, offtopic question. I didn't find anything about crit confirmation. Does this mean that any attack that is nat 20 or exceeds AC by 10 or more is already a crit?


I was also wondering about how that works as far as the double damage on a critical. For a standard rapier, would it be the 2d6 for damage, and then the additional 1d8 for the deadly quality? For a master rapier, 2d6 and then additional 2d8 for deadly?

Regarding crits, with the lack of anything with an expanded critical range or feats to expand critical range, I was guessing crit confirmation is gone. Just my thoughts.

Crit confirmation is gone. If your attack is 10 higher than the AC or you roll a natural 20, you automatically get crit damage. This makes to hit modifiers and crit triggers more valuable than in P1.


I did answer my own question about the double damage on the critical, and it does work how I suspected (but I think for quality of life, the Deadly quality definition after weapons could also specify this, or perhaps in the "doubling damage" section).

From what I saw, deadly doesn't change your damage dice but adds more to a crit. Example short bow 1d6 damage. On crit it does 2d6 damage since its a crit. Deadly trait adds another 1d10 on top of that.

Is that the consensus on how this works? I'm leaning that way, too, but I think the wording in the book is unclear here. It certainly doesn't help that the rapier example is just plain wrong no matter how you read the Deadly trait.

Well, I agree with it.

Note that deadly adds more dice if the weapon's quality is master or legendary (for a total of 2d10 or 310, respectively, for the short bow).

They need to clear this up. It caused a long table argument as to if this is an additional die added to the Critical or replaces the critical die. The wording and example are both poor.

We had a short bow Critical an the argument was for the damage to be 2d10 or 2d6+1d10 or 1d6+1d10

It would be nice to have an official ruling on the Deadly weapon quality. or where to go for a official ruling.


This does not appear to have been cleared up in the update. Has an answer come up anywhere else?

it is in the doubling damage section already.

you don't multiply effects gained from a crit on a crit.

traits are extra things. They don't remove anything from the basic action unless they specifically say so.

Deadly in particular doesn't say "replace" or "instead". It flat out says it deals that much damage on a crit. So, that's extra damage.

RAW seems to suggest it is in addition to whatever weapon damage is already being rolled. And listed sized I assume is whatever damage die is after the trait on the weapon entry.

Going back to the first post, I believe 2d6 as an example for the rapier is a mistake.

Also FYI, Fatal trait replaces the weapon damage die.

fatal replaces AND adds, deadly only adds.

with crit spec giving an additonal +1/die, it comes at picks and light picks having about 3.5-3.7x crit multipliers instead of 2x. which is kinda awesome imo.
