First thread, if I'm making a mistake let me know.
I didn't wanted to necro an old thread, but I wanted to say that Silencer - Sterile Nails And Thunderbowels was perfect for good ol' Zon-Kuthon. This, or if you like french there is Gris - Cicatrices. The screams (especially on the first one at 4:26) are particulary... pleasing to ear, if you are in a kuthite mood.
Hey, if I wanted I could propose theme songs for each of the kyton demagogues.
I also feel like Nocte Obducta - Dinner Auf Uranos is particulary fitting with the Black Butterfly.
And I could not speak about gods theme song without speaking about my beloved Great Cthulhu. So here are two songs, Septicflesh - Our Church Below The Sea and Smohalla - Marche Silencieuse.
Anyway, which song do you think makes a good theme song for a god ?

Today's selection:
Iomedae- Battle Born
Torag- Diggy Diggy Hole. Kind of sums up his... lack of nuance and why I find him less than interesting...
Shelyn- La Vie En Rose
Desna- Chi il ble Sogno Di Doretta
Cayden "Least Favorite Deity Ever" Cailean- Drink and Fight. A bit uncharitable, perhaps, but at least I didn't pick one I haven't occasionally sung along with...
Nethys- Space Lord
Calistria- Gold Dust Woman
Gorum- Another Body Drops. A far better and more interesting song than he deserves, really, but, hey, I'm feeling generous.
Asmodeus- Sympathy for the Devil. Kind of trite and precitable of me, but, you know...
Zon-Kuthon- Hurt. This version might be a bit more countrified than some would like for ol Zonny, but I think it works.
Norgorber- He's Back (The Man Behind the Mask)
Urgathoa- Surfin’ Dead
Rovagug- Superbeast
Milani- Rock the Casbah. More thematic than literal, dontchaknow...
Naderi- La Llorona
Groetus- The End. Or Bad Moon Rising. Either one.
Moloch- Fire. Perhaps a wee bit goofy and lighthearted, but... cope.
Mephistopheles- Mephistopheles. Duh!
Nocticula- Look Out Young Son
Charon- The Halloween Theme
Arshea- Soul on Fire
Ashava- Can't Get It Out of My Head. ELO.
Hastur- My favorite version of Cassilda's Song
Cthulhu- Behold the Colossus
Yog-Sothoth- Master of Light
Ardad Lili- Don't Stop the Devil
Eiseth- As if there were any doubt whatsoever.
Doloras- Darkness, Darkness
Mahathallah- Spellbound

It's in the 'How to format your text' tab at the bottom of the page, but in case that isn't showing up:
Put in brackeds [ ] url=the website's http address, then the text for your link, and then /url at the end, also in brackets.
Speaking of which:
Gorum - Warriors of the World by Manowar

The Tyger |
Calistria - Ex's & Oh's by Elle King
Ooh, good one! I can't believe I missed such a perfect song when I hear it on my radio every morning!
Irori - Nam Myoho Renge Kyo Chant
Nam Myōhō Renge Kyō
(Glory to the Sutra of the Lotus of the Supreme Law)
(Obvious, but I still feel it fits Irori.)
Lamashtu - When the Heart Fails by Passenger of... er, Expletive.
*Thirty seconds of synthesizer and then loud, violent screaming*
(This song is uh... something. It's definitely something. I think about whenever I think about mindless pain and chaos. I'm not going to link it; it doesn't have any lyrics, but it's still shocking. But the rhythm of the calm, slow synthesizer mixed with intervals of screaming and beating seems perfect for Lamashtu, because it embodies an important aspect of her to me. It reminds me of birth contractions, and what is Lamashtu but the mother of monsters?)
Nethys - Evoke by After Forever
Let it flow
Its endless beauty will evoke
A timeless sequence we all share
We cannot break through nor control
It is not at our command, no
(A perfect song for admiring the beauty and power of magic while also warning that it cannot be controlled.)
Norgorber - Scaretale by Nightwish
Restless souls will put on their dancing shoes
Mindless ghouls with lots of limbs to lose
Illusionists, contortionist,
Tightrope walkers tightening the noose
(It's more the sound of the music than anything lyrically which makes me think of Norgorber on this one. Someone in the comments described it as 'a mix of Pirates of the Caribbean and Tim Burton', and I feel like that's an apt description of Norgorber's profile as a mixture of rogues and terrifying assassins.)
Pharasma - Last Song by Jason Webley
One night a woman took my hand
I left my home and followed her into an icy field
When I wanted to go back I'd lost the way
So she beckoned me to lie beneath the stone that always bore my nameAnd we say that the world isn't dying
And we pray that the world isn't dying
Just maybe the world isn't dying
Maybe she's heavy with child
(The explicit mention of death as a female figure made me think of Pharasma. Last Song's mournful dirge resigns itself to the inevitability of death, but also invokes the cyclical nature of life and death, just like Pharasma.)
Rovagug - Humans are Such Easy Prey by Perturbator
It can't be bargained with. It can't be reasoned with. It doesn't feel pity, or remorse, or fear. And it absolutely will not stop... ever, until you are dead!
(The title says it all. The ultimate song for the ultimate predator.)
Sarenrae - Light of a Clear Blue Morning by Dolly Parton
It's been a long dark night
And I've been a waitin' for the morning
It's been a long hard fight
But I see a brand new day a dawning
I've been looking for the sunshine
You know, I ain't seen it in so long
And everything's gonna work out just fine
And everything's gonna be all right
That's been all wrong
(It's not enough that the song is about sunshine or morning. It's that it's about hope, and about redemption. The essence of Sarenrae is that no matter how bad things get, they're guaranteed to get better.)
Shelyn - Ah, Tutti Contenti (The Marriage of Figaro, Act IV) by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart
Questo giorno di tormenti, (This day of torments,)
di capricci, e di follia, (of caprice, of folly,)
in contenti e in allegria (in content and happiness)
solo amor può terminar. (only love can end it.)
Sposi, amici, al ballo, al gioco, (Friends, lovers, to dance, to play,)
alle mine date foco! (set off the fireworks!)
Ed al suon di lieta marcia (And to the sound of gay music)
corriam tutti a festeggiar! (let us all run to celebrate!)
(You could put just about any song about love or beauty for Shelyn. But I wanted something that incorporated not just love, but artistry in its highest form. The fourth act of The Marriage of Figaro ends in forgiveness, and a call for the salvation of love.)
Torag - Hard Hat and A Hammer by Alan Jackson
But there's nothing wrong with a hard hat and a hammer
Kind of glue that sticks this world together
Hands of steel and cradle of the Promised Land
God bless the working man
(Dwarves would totally listen to country, and you know it. So first off; mining song. But more importantly, it's a song about the quiet dignity of being a hard worker. Torag helps us find the meaning in drudgery, and reassures us of the nobility of responsibility.)
Urgathoa - Move Your Dead Bones by Dr. Reanimator
If you're feeling dead I'll be your reanimator
I've got the way to bring you to life
A superior existence with no one to control you
Where you can always do what you like
Let me give you some green color and you will ask for more
You will see that you never felt this way before
Party without limits, have sex and don't be blue
Freedom is eternal for you, you, you!
(You knew you weren't getting out of here without a meme song. This was an inevitability. And this stupid, stupid, STUPID song describes Urgathoa's doctrine of undeath as the ultimate in hedonism pretty well.)
Zon Kuthon - Sucker for Pain by Lil' Wayne (with Logic, Ty Dolla $ign, and X Ambassadors)
Used to doing bad, now we feel like we just now getting it
Ain't got no other way so we started and finished it
No pain, no gain
Never stand down, made our own way
Never going slow, we pick up the pace
This is what we wanted from a young age
No emotion, that's what business is
Lord have mercy on the witnesses
(Little bit of a genre round out. Also one of only a handful of songs about torture. Even some religious intonation in there.)

Back months later with more picks:
Black Butterfly- Despite having "silence" in her schtick, I actually think she has a pretty easy theme song to hash out: This highly specific version of Clair de Lune.

Gozreh- When the Levee Breaks

Hanspur- Proud Mary

I was strongly reminded of Tsukiyo after listening to Moonglow, from Avantasia's upcoming album of the same name. It illustrates how some we may deem mad don't fit into the boxes our societies set for us and can be carried away to places of dark, magical wonder, and that can be a beautiful thing.

Anyone have an idea for Lissala? was trying to think of one the other day but couldn't
J.S. Bach - Chaconne in D. Difficult, meticulous, rigorous.
Sandal Fury |
For Urgathoa, "Wicked Ones" by Dorothy. I think of her every time I hear it.
"This night ain't for the holy man with the holy plan for the promised land / This night we got the evil hand and the evil hand gon' raise the dead"
"Ain't no sleep when the wicked play / all we do is get laid"

Pharasma: Miserere mei Deus (Allegri). A memento where Pharasmins (but not only them) remember they are mortals - and mortals are temporary beings circumscribed in the Material Plane. One day they'll die, and they be called to Pharasma for their last judgment.
This isn't a song of bitterness: the chant is an act of humility, the everlasting awareness of the mortal condition and so they asking compassion at a time when the body dies and the soul will travel into the Boneyard.

Ashava: Dancing in the Moonlight, specifically Toploader's cover version, though King Harvest's original is delightful too! The True Spark DOES make everybody feel warm and bright, and her dance is such a fine and natural sight! :D

I'd flip 'em, that cover does nothing for me... well. Except for making me think of Four Lions, which is a decidedly different vibe than Ashava gives me...
ANYWAY.
In honor of Concordance of Rivals (BUY IT NOOOOOOOOOOOW!)
Barzahk the Passage: The Monster Magnet cover of 2000 Light Years From Home

Too on the nose for my kaiju-happy group to ever actually use, but also absolutely correct in all other ways that matter.
