Over the next few months I am going to be giving away most of my Pathfinder collection. Almost all have been used in play but the majority of them are in great condition (although they’ve nearly all been read at least once there are a few multiples so some of them have literally never even been opened), there’s no charge and I’ll cover shipping. Several of the bundles include out-of-print titles, so this might be a good way to fill out your PF1 collection.
Last time I did this it was predominantly books from other game systems. I listed the books and invited people to PM what they were interested in. This time (being mainly Pathfinder titles), I suspect there may be more interest (and I don’t really want to ship four hundred individual packages) so I’ve bundled them all up into lots of various sizes which I’ll invite the community to express interest in via Private Message and then ship out in batches over the coming months. In the event more than one person expresses interest in one of the lots, I’ll randomly select someone.
In an attempt to keep things manageable, I’ve structured it into five waves of about twenty lots each. I haven’t put any thought into the “value” of each lot – they’re just equallish sized piles of books on my study floor (though I’ve kept obvious things together like APs and so forth). I’d prefer to not have to break things up – if you end up winning some books you don’t want alongside the ones you do, I’ll just ask you to find someone who is interested in the others. With some exceptions I don’t mind if you sell them down the track (some of them are free Player Guides for APs I had printed out – they shouldn’t be sold).
Please read through to the end of the thread before PMing me as I’ll open each wave for a fortnight or so, then ship out that batch before moving on to the next. Last time I received many requests after the shipments had all gone out from people who only read the initial post. Also, please don’t pledge for more than one wave at a time – I’ll just get confused!
Here’s how I’ll run it:
For each wave you can nominate up to three lots you’re interested in (please keep these brief – a PM with the title listing the lots you’d like to be considered for and no message would be fine).
Winning one lot doesn’t affect your chances in the other draws.
I’ll then randomly choose a winner for each lot and contact the winners via PM (to get the shipping addresses – don’t send these unless you win and if you win multiple waves I’ll probably ask you to resend these as digging through past private messages is not always easy).
I won’t PM the unsuccessful people – I’ll just post in this thread to say the winners have all been notified.
I hope to get all addresses back and each wave shipped out in a fortnight. Then I’ll move on to the next wave.
The following five posts will list each “wave” of lots. Beyond that I’ll advise opening dates and closing dates as each batch opens up. Any questions, please ask in this thread.

Cool. Could I ask you to Private Message me with that in the message title? (Just so I have everything in one place).
Also, you can nominate two other lots if you’re even just mildly interested. It won’t affect your chances of getting the one you want (and might be a consolation prize if you miss out on lot 10).

I'd like to be considered for the Giantslayer lot, as that's the only PFRPG adventure path I don't have (on account of being broke because of fleas).
FYI: I couldn't find a way to PM you. :-)
If someone else is interested in that lot please consider them over myself.
Click Steve's username and below their personal description is the phrase "Send Private message".

I know, I've been here for quite a while. :-)
I looked for that, didn't see it.
I did accidentally turn mine off earlier today but I turned them back on before hitting his name.
Must not have caught up to me! (or I might've been changing my avatar too much lately and screwed things up).
All possibilities are possible. :-)
Yup, I broke something, it won't let me reset my privacy settings. At any rate, I think it's lot 5.

Steve Geddes |

Q: If it isn't too personal, may I ask why you're clearing out your stuff?
I've done that periodically over the years (since 79).
The specific trigger here is that I've been struggling to get enthused about PF2. I know I'm going to move over, no matter what (a big part of what I enjoy about RPGs is the ongoing support) but each time a blog comes out I've found myself just looking at my shelf and feeling a bit glum about all the campaigns I had planned but am now never going to get to.
I have kept War For the Crown - the next PF campaign I had planned to run once it's fully out, plus my favorite RPG line hardcovers. I'll also be keeping almost all of the campaign setting books which have always been my favorites.
I used to list them on Ebay, but doing so with a massive batch never results in high values, brings inevitable moaning about damaged/lost books and nearly always leaves me with some things left over. Doing it this way is about the same hassle, doesn't really cost me much in lost 'revenue' and will hopefully help members of the community fill out gaps in their collection - especially with some of the out of print things.

Wow, Steve, this takes generosity to levels rarely seen. I'm pretty sure you're overseas, so the free shipping alone on all this is going to cost you a pretty penny.
It's your money of course, but you might want to provide an optional way for the winners to compensate you in some way. Whether that's PayPal or something along those lines. In the unlikely event I win something, I'd at least want to reimburse you for the shipping. At least. In the alternative, if there's a charity you actively support, let us know and we could donate to that if we have the means.
Regardless, you're a champ for doing this, and I'll throw my hat in the ring in some future waves presumably later in the summer. I have some things in pdf I wouldn't mind having in physical form. My eyes aren't getting any younger...

I second all of this, you're awesome Steve.

Steve Geddes |

You are giving away all your PF stuff? Wow! Thats really nice and generous of you Steve! Thank you
I'm putting in for Kingmaker too. Can't believe you have an entire set to give away. I'm GMing into book 3 and it would be great to have a physical book vs using only PDFs.
No worries. Could I ask you to send me a PM with something like "Wave one - lot ten" in the title?
If I can have everyone's messages there in one place it'll be easier to find everything (and to get in contact with winners of the more popular lots).

Steve Geddes |

As a general note - I am replying to people's private messages to confirm I've received your interest. But I'm not writing any long essays. If you've sent me a PM and not heard back in a day or so, probably worth prodding me to make sure I got it.
(I'll just respond with "Received your interest in wave one" or similar).

hey there,
VERY nice of you to do this!
I'm glad its for moving up to a new Edition, and not leaving the hobby! :)
PM being sent, and Thank you for the option!
(We can request to be in drawing for up to 3 lots from a wave, yes? Am I reading that right?) ;P
Yes that's right.
Also, if you win a lot it doesn't affect your chances in the other two.

In terms of timelines, I'm expecting each wave to take three-four weeks. I'll try and keep it clear in this thread when each is closing and the next has opened. I'm guessing it'll be September when I finish up(?)
Compensation isn't necessary, I could have used Ebay if that was important. For a while that's how I used to purge my collection, but I find it more satisfying to think that they're going to fans rather than online bookshops to be onsold later (which is what used to happen a lot).

Should we wait to PM if we're only interested in items from Waves further down or is now ok?
Later is better thanks.
I thought it would be convenient and easy to find but in retrospect listing all of them at the start wasn’t the smartest thing to do.
For now, just send me what you’re interested in for wave one, thanks (you’ll need to keep an eye on this thread in coming months if you’re only interested in later stuff).

Steve Geddes |

Okay, by way of expectation management I should probably announce that we have mathematically reached the point where it's impossible for everyone to get something.
It's unsurprising that I got more interest this time than previously (last time was almost exclusively not-Pathfinder) however, it's probably worth tempering one's enthusiasm until the end of the project. The way I've broken it up necessarily means there'll be a number of people who miss out, unfortunately.
I'll still keep wave one "open" until July 4th, but the expression-of-interest window for future waves might be a bit shorter than a fortnight, I think.

Steve Geddes |

First, let me echo many others in expressing my appreciation for your generosity. This is real community here.
Also, since I'm coming to this fairly late, I'd like to ask if the first wave is officially full, and if I should go ahead and PM my interest in lots from the later waves.
Wave one is still open - I'll keep it that way until July 4th, as initially planned. It does seem the PMs have slowed down considerably after the first couple of days.
Later waves will only last a week, I think (since hopefully people who might be interested will have seen this thread by then).

KingGramJohnson |

Steve, this is super generous. I'm amazed. PF books can be expensive. Thank you for this opportunity. I'm really interested in some of the APs and the Bestiaries. I will wait until Wave 4 to put in for those.
2 Questions:
1. We can inquire into 3 lots. Is that 3 lots each wave, or 3 lots in total?
2. What dates do you think you'll open wave 4?
Thanks again!

Steve Geddes |

You can express interest in three lots in each wave. So if you’re interested in the APs now is the time - the APs will go in wave one (closing 4th July).
If it’s bestiaries you want, the fifth wave is the one that’ll be important to watch for.
I’m not 100% sure when wave four will happen (consisting of the map packs). My guesstimate would be the end of August.
Note that wave four is just map packs though - no APs or bestiaries. I hope this process is as clear in print as it is in my head. :/

No, it's clear. I accidentally wrote 4 instead of 5...twice. My mistake.
