End of 'Kingmaker' mega boss fight last night. To cut a long story short, we lost, the wizard betrayed us, my Paladin got turned into a squirrel, then we got exiled to Fairyland. The treacherous wizard became a Fairy Lord with his own realm, and the rest of us were transported to a sort of nature reserve for idiots.
How do you feel about that? It's hard to tell from your post if you think this is a good or a bad thing.

O, I don't mind - it was a good, epic moment for a betrayal, and before being squirrelated, my Paladin made a truly staggering number of saves to be the last man standing, and might have won were it not for a few unlucky attack rolls. Besides, I was ready to move on and play something different, namely a Witch.
I know some people who had a 48 hour wait after their scheduled departure time from Scotland to come back here to the States. Reason #5485 why I'll never fly again.
Hey all! Still Rasslin' With 'Rona here at Sweet Home Calabama. I feel like complete crap and I'm not going through even a tenth of what millions of others have. To feel worse than I do right now is pretty much beyond my imagining. And to top it all off I'm banned from posting on Facebook for six days. Most folks wouldn't be affected by that much, but it's how I communicate with 90% of my friends and family all throughout the day. Now I have Covid and I'm bored...lol
Anyway, what are everyone's plans for this weekend? Your hopes? Your dreams? ahem...sorry...I was having a Hallmark moment there.

This has been a lovely week with no kids, but I am going to pick them up from my sister's tomorrow.
During the stay, my daughter lost a tooth. My sister texted asking what to do (she doesn't have kids), so I told her to sneak a dollar under her pillow that night. We also have those cheap, chocolate discs wrapped in gold foil that are supposed to look like oversized coins that we also sneak in with the dollar, but my sister didn't have any of those.
But somehow, my sister forgot to take the tooth, so my daughter is going to bring it home and put it under her pillow, hoping that "her" tooth fairy leaves the chocolate coin and (she explained with a mischievous giggle) another dollar. Well, I've already put the coin under her pillow so that it's waiting for her right away. Why did the tooth fairy do things this way? Magic!
That's so cute! I was visiting some family last week and one of the moms told how her daughter lost her first tooth while they were shopping. She didn't want to lose it in the bottom of her purse so she put it in one of her medicine bottles. I'm sure you know where this is going. So she wrote a note to the Tooth Fairy apologizing for losing the tooth and put it under her daughter's pillow. Later she sneaked in and put a $10 bill under it because she felt so bad about what happened...LOL
As far as Zuck Supermax goes, I posted something that "violated their community standards". When I dug down in my FB page and found the offending post it was the farthest thing from violent. I had to shut down my original page that I'd had since Facebook's infancy because I upset one or more of my old high school classmates for having the sheer audacity to be a liberal in "Trump's America" (the "Trump's America" is taken from an actual post by one of them). I was getting more and more and longer and longer restrictions until I got the one that basically said, "Last chance, kid. Screw this up and the page is deleted." I honestly think one or more of my childhood "friends" was just flagging things they didn't like. FB's bots don't pay attention to a flagged post unless it trips something they're programmed to find. Otherwise they just send out a warning, regardless of the actual content. I suspect that's happening now, and I tried really hard to weed out the ones I thought would do that on my new page.
Ah, well. Feed 'em fish heads.

Temporary roomie is back from Scotland this weekend, just in time for our (hopefully) last Rise of the Runelords game. Then the plan is to knock out the last two chapters of our My City legacy campaign. After that, I'm hoping for a quiet Monday and Tuesday, having taken a day of PTO for a three day weekend.
Sweet Home Calabama continues to be a quarantined zone. This is my second time to Rassle with 'Rona and it's worse than the first time. Today makes ten days. My temperature is a roller coaster; it will fall to 99.5°F (37.5° for my friends in more civilized lands and 310.7°K for my friends who do the science stuff) and then rocket back up to 103+°F (39°C or 312°K) for a short time (sorry for the unnecessary number of measuring systems. I just learned how to make the little degree symbol and I have to use it all the time, even if makes me look insane). I've told my friends and family if it goes up beyond that I'll try to get to the hospital, though that's something of an empty promise as my car is out of commission at the moment.
Now I've blathered on about that just to say there's no game again this weekend, and with the unpredictable duration of the virus I have no idea when we'll manage to gather again. The first time I had COVID I had a nonstop fever for 5 straight weeks. This time there are other symptoms on top of that and I feel too rotten to sleep right now. I just checked my temperature and it's 103.3° (y'all can convert it if you want. I'm running out of steam). The fatigue and "brain fog" are really a huge hassle, too.

I am officially on my vacation with my family. We are currently in Richmond, VA to visit my wife's extended family for a memorial for my wife's aunt who passed away during COVID-related travel issues, and then on Monday we're headed up to Rhode Island to stay with my in-laws for a bit.
It's a nice break from the record-breaking heat in Houston.

Several years ago when my son was still in high school he accompanied his mom on a business trip to New York. One morning they got up and struck out Rhode Island with the express purpose of seeing Lovecraft's grave. It turns out there is a marker in a cemetery memorializing him, but his actual grave's location is a secret (for obvious reasons). The inscription on the headstone reads, "I am Providence".

The monk has a feat that allows him to forego damage on a fatal attack to instead make a Diplomacy check to sway the target to his side. So he punches people into being his friend. Once the Runelord was defeated, he told the surviving minions that they were all his friends now. They surrendered quickly.
No game at Sweet Home Calabama. COVID abides.

Savage Tide returns! We finally had a successful full session this past Saturday. We've begun City of Broken Idols in earnest and broken the curse that has brought this campaign to an end at the beginning of this chapter (or end of the last) every time I've attempted to run it.
The lizardfolk leader Rissashtak described how anyone who goes into the city against their warnings becomes "empty" and returns, then spreads that "emptiness" through the tribe in a way that had the two divine casters in my three-person party going "Vampire"; they spent the night making holy water and stakes. The swashbuckler just really doesn't want to be here at all, but helped with the stakes because what else is she going to do.
COVID II: The Wrath of 'Rona still has Sweet Home Calabama under quarantine, but I've felt better today than in the last three weeks. My fevers, which would go from almost normal up to 103+° and back down in a couple of hours all day seem to be at an end. I'm still running a fever, but it's only very slight. Thank goodness.
So what are you'ns doing this weekend?
The weekend has descended upon us once again. What does everyone have going on? I think I've come to the end of my COVID run but I'm going to retest tomorrow and if the results are favorable we'll get to game again next Saturday.

My wife, son, and I came back into town last weekend from our vacation, but my daughter stayed behind to go to a day camp with her cousin. She comes home this weekend! And my son has been enjoying time with just his parents doing some of the things his little sister doesn't like to do (like eat sushi and watch scary action movies). But even he is looking forward to her coming home.

This weekend is pretty quiet, with Monday night anime night being the only real plan. Cyz gets to go in for her neurologist appointment in the morning and hopefully get her infusion plan adjusted to every three weeks instead of four. The last week before the treatment has her worn out and unable to do much while the following week is taken getting back to full speed. Not ideal with her going into practicum work and fall classes.

I think I've come to the end of my COVID run but I'm going to retest tomorrow and if the results are favorable we'll get to game again next Saturday.

I actually haven't elaborated much on my current NWN plot here IIRC.
TLDR: our NWN server is set in Forgotten Realms and the plot is about the dead god Moander (possibly) returning to life. Chapter 1 focused on two sub-plots being controlled/directed by the dead god's current champion - one a forest blight of fiendishly-hybridized Yellow Musk Creepers created by a Blight Druid of Talona the goddess of poison and plague, and the other a trade city plunged into a pandemic by the influence and machinations of a gibrileth Cancer Mage/Fiend of Possession.
The chapter is going to come to a head in a couple of weeks with the Druid leading his army of demons, corrupted plants, poisonous animals and magical beasts, vile insects, and villainous druids and rangers to attack one of the primary goodly druidic shrines on the server, and the gibrileth being forced out into the open by the groups investigating the plague in the city having determined if not its full identity at least that of the influential local militia's paper-pusher it was possessing to get access to everything it needed.
Then the players have to deal with the ensuing fallout, including the eventual resurrection of the champion as a Treerazer-like demon.

I ran a D&D game for my 11 year-old son today! It's the first time I've run a game for him, but also the first session he's played in quite a while. Probably the 3rd or 4th session in total.
I adapted a beginner's adventure by YouTuber Matt Colville. Because it was just one PC, I pulled out a few of the goblins, sprinkled some healing potions here and there, and only fudged one die roll. He didn't recognize the puzzle for a puzzle until I had an NPC tell him "It must be some sort of riddle!" and then when he finally solved the riddle, he didn't disturb the sarcophagi in the hidden room so that he could find the magic sword. (In retrospect, after the game was over, I should have put the sword in a chest, instead of a sarcophagus, because Minecraft has the former, but not the latter.) Instead, I had the blacksmith so grateful to Bill the Warrior that he offered to make him one item of his choice, so he got an armor upgrade.
My son really liked the game!
I ran the game in 3.5 because I still haven't learned 5E, and I wanted him to be able to say he played D&D in case he talks about it with his friends. But after a couple fiascos involving Hide/Move Silently and Listen/Search/Spot, I remembered just how much of an improvement PF is, so I'll probably run a follow up adventure in PF1. He won't really care at all. The "branding" was my projecting, I think.

The first time my son played I think he had just turned seven. We'd moved to St. Louis and I managed to get a couple of players on board for trial run of the 3.0 rules. We decided it would just a simple exercise in testing out the rules.
At one point they found a room with smooth, glossy black floor. On a dais in the center of the room was a dagger (the Macguffin). One of the veteran players stepped right into the black pudding that covered the actual floor. Next the two veteran players began brainstorming how to get the dagger without getting hurt. The plan had reached Rube Goldberg levels of complexity and my son let out this huge sigh and said, "I cast Mage Hand and bring it to me." The look on the other guys' faces was priceless.

I ain't got no COVID no more and I think a game might actually break out this Saturday. Going to wrap up the current campaign and by player request reboot the one that preceded it (I bolluxed that thing up BAD but I learned my lessons about Chronomancy and alternate Prime Material Planes and solemnly vow to not do that nonsense again).

I'm honestly not 100% sure when it all unraveled. Part of it was I wasn't really excited about how that campaign started off, anyway. So a lot of disinterest on my part. Then I thought it would be REALLY COOL™ to throw in rival Chronomancers, one trying to preserve the timeline and one trying to wreck it. That right there violated my own rules against taking away player agency in determining where they wanted to take their characters as far as the storyline went. Then the ideas I had for the NPC good guy they were trying to meet up and join forces with just stopped gelling in my mind and I stopped taking notes during games and forgetting the situations where we left off at the end of sessions. I began making seriously beginner DM style mistakes and in trying to fix them I somehow made them worse.
That storyline was originally suggested by one of my players, and it was actually a pretty good idea. But somehow I lost the reins. It was also during a pretty bad period where my depression and anxiety disorders were revved up, so those didn't help, either. This time I'm more focused and I actually have a pretty firm outline in mind, and with some terrific suggestions from a former player and Mark Hoover here on the forums, I'm actually looking forward to the reboot.
