Is there any post anywhere that states why they might be down Ive checked Twitter but saw nothing there?
It's like 5:30 in the morning where the people who work at Paizo are right now, and the problem started well after business hours were over. Anyone who could make such a post is probably asleep and has been since before the problem started.

Nah, it was still a reasonable hour on the west coast when it started last night. They could have deployed a small patch for something else last night which borked the settings.
Won't know until people wake up today.
Reasonable as in 'when people were still awake'? Sure.
Reasonable as in 'when people were at work and looking at the forums as part of their job'? Not so much. It was like 8 or 9 pm Western Time at the earliest.

Well, that explains why no one responded to one of my posts on a cantankerous thread. I thought that I had managed to calm an argument down. Instead, the reality is that no one can see my post because they can’t get there to read it.
Heh. Oh well, more time for my Play-by-Posts this morning!
:-D
Looking forward to seeing the patch later today, gang!
Hmm

It depends on how low your thread dropped. If you go to one of the Paizo Blogs previewing the playtest, from there you can access "Recent Threads in Pathfinder Playtest" and see the top threads in that forum -- but unless you have some other direct link to them, there seems to be no way to get to anything that does not show up in that "Recent" box.

I can't see any evidence that posts have actually been deleted. But links and bookmarks to any of the sub-forums under Pathfinder just seem to redirect to the main page.
If you click on a profile (including your own) you can still access whatever threads that person has posted on. So, everything seems to still be there, it's just really hard to get to now.
Initially this felt like a marketing thing, but maybe not.

Using a direct link such as
http://paizo.com/paizo/messageboards/paizoInc/pathfinder/pathfinderRPG/rule s
http://paizo.com/paizo/messageboards/paizoInc/pathfinder
is borked and takes you to the main Pathfinder page. Website string interpretation is also adding a space before the last letter (didn't have that in the post). hmmm...
Shortcut links ARE working, such as;
http://paizo.com/threads/rzs2r2go?Advice-Forum-Guidelines
Seems that Archives are up...
Starfinder forum links are okay and redirect to the correct forum.
usenet/google groups is still working

It's possible that they "locked down the forums" to give them time to vet and moderate them. It's happened before.
Or it's possible that something went catastrophically wrong, and the guy who can fix it is out of the office or something.
It's 12 noon here in Florida, so it's, what, 9AM in Seattle? Guess we should just be patient.

They open at 10 a.m. Pacific time, so in theory somebody should have been looking into this issue for about half an hour. I am pretty sure that this is not an intentional lockdown for moderation purposes as it would fail in that goal -- the most contentious threads are the only ones that are still easy to find.

Spot on. My link to
paizo.com/community/forums/pathfinder/adventureCardGameis broken. If i go to my post history, I can find threads that way. If I try to navigate to the forums from a thread it gets pretty wonky and non-intuitive.

http://paizo.com/paizo/messageboards/paizoInc/pathfinder/pathfinderRPG is still down.
It appears that the database is intact, but the forum nesting structure is bolloxed.
