Dead dire rat in the sleeping bag. Prestidigitation to reflavor the poo-stew. Surprise awaken on the ranger's companion. These shenanigans can be funny, but they have a way of escalating. Two questions:
1. Have you ever been in an in-character prank war?
2. Did you have any troubles with harmless pranks boiling over into PVP?

I've been shot by my own archer as a prank mid-combat. He rolled a natural 20, and maxed his damage roll, as a prank.
The following night, my character was going to coup de grace him in his sleep, you know, as a prank. But whoever was on fireguard convinced me otherwise.
Neither of those shenanigans were cheeky and fun. They were cruel and tragic, which makes them not shenanigans at all. Evil shenanigans!
These things always end up escalating until someone steps on a trap involving a bag of holding and a portable hole, as prank. Whoops.

The best prank I witnessed was when our half-giant secretly nailed our dwarf’s furniture to the ceiling of the dwarf’s home. He then proceeded to get the dwarf blindingly drunk at a local tavern. When the dwarf stumbled home, he was so tired and intoxicated that he kept trying (and failing) to climb into his bed (securely attached to the ceiling). When the party checked on the dwarf the next day, we found him curled into a ball on the floor below his bed.
