Alchemical Allocation

Advice

I am looking for the best level 2 spells I can take as a potion - in conjunction with alchemical allocation.

I was wondering If I could buy a potion of create pit and use that?

I could be wrong but extracts are only effective if consumed so a pit wouldn't be good for you. My character picked up as many potions he could to add more flexibility to alchemical allocation...I have potions of darkvision, heroism, lesser restoration and barkskin just to name a few

Silver Crusade

Heroism and Fly are my favorites.

Yeah at level 4 I only have access to level 2 extracts/spells. I went the route of invisibility and mirror image for surviveability.

However Once I gain a level, as the 3rd extract to use, I found create pit was one of the strongest spells. I Guess I can't use it to create a pit tho?

I seem to recall the potion rules suggesting that there wouldn't be a Potion of Create Pit: there would be an Oil of Create Pit. I don't think Alchemal Allocation works on Oils, only on potions.

The place to double check would be in the Potions Section of the Magic Items section of the Core Rulebook, iirc, and the description of Alchemal Allocation, of course.

Silver Crusade

At level 4 you can buy a potion of Heroism, and use it as many times as you like with Alchemical Allocation. The fact that you can't make a potion of Heroism yourself yet doesn't matter.

Sovereign Court

You can't use Alchemical Allocation with extracts, only real potions. But they don't have to be level 2 potions, they can be potions of level 3 spells, or potions of level 2 spells but with a higher caster level.

A CL 9 potion of Barkskin for example lasts longer than when you use a CL 4 extract of Barkskin, and also gives a higher bonus.

Potions are limited to zero through third level spells which target the imbiber, excluding personal spells. I think Oil of Magic Weapon is legal, rub it on a weapon. Oil of Create Pit might be legal, it's stretching. Some people get an oil of Cure Light Wound just because it's faster to apply to an ally than a potion.

Alchemical Allocation works on elixirs too. Which does seem weird.

I assume anything with a name along the line of "Elixir of Hiding" is an elixir. Some of those get pretty expensive and powerful.

Silver Crusade

Heroism
Magic Circle against X
Fly
Barkskin CL 12
False Life CL 10
Greater Magic Fang CL 20

Use higher CL and Extend Potion discovery to make them last longer (Extended, CL 18 Heroism lasts 6 hours).

Some Elixirs could be useful in certain circumstances, but I don't like them much as they usually last only 1 hour.

So extend potion does work with alchemical allocation?

It works with the potion, not Alchemical Allocation.

Understand but if you use extend potion on the Potion before "consuming" it with alchemical allocation is it still extended?

Silver Crusade

Why shouldn't it? The potion takes full effect, while Alchemical Allocation simply lets you spit it back. For example, the iconic Alchemists uses every day a wand of Alchemical Allocation with a potion of False Life enhanced to CL 10 using the discovery Enhance Potion. The same applies of course to Extend Potion.

I thought that was a misprinted or not the official version. If I remember correctly one can not make a wand of Alchemical allocation.

It does seem like a problem. Given that it isn't on any spell list I don't see how you can put it on a spell completion item.

well like 2-3 years ago I posted something about the cost of it on the forums on my old account and was told that the wand does not exist.

For the sake of clarity, the discussion about the wand does not influence that about Extend Potion.

That being said, it is true that a wand of Alchemist-only "spells" is weird. However I would have no problem allowing it, the same way I would have no problem allowing an Alchemist who has acquired somehow crafting feats to use extracts to satisfy crafting requirements. For the cost, it should be 6000gp, the same cost of 2nd level wands for bards'/inquisitors' spells. Given the cost, I would probably prefer spending 4000gp for a 2nd level Boro Bead, or 8000gp and buy two Boro Beads.

1 person marked this as a favorite.

A potion of Curative Distillation.
Using the material component of another potion of Curative Distillation.

...
Throw in like a potion of Scarify for 2d6+1 at 50 gp at the end.

(400 gp and heals for 1d8+4) per layer of Curative Distillation.
