Protector familiar archetype

Advice

Sooo... I trying to make a watersinger bard and currently my list of feats stands at,

-Lingering performance
-Improved Initiative XD

so I'm looking at otherthings to do and I figured Eldritch Heritage to get a familiar was a good idea. (I also looked at Eldritch Heritage aquatic, turns out their level 15 ability is super useful but ... level 15 :( )

So I was wondering if this archetype was a trap and I hadn't noticed, if there were any nifty tricks one could do with it and which familiars would be best with it.

Can you use improved familiar with these archetypes? Cause I have the feats free to get it if so. lol.

its really only useful with the tumor familiar or some other familiar with fast healing otherwise you will end up killing your familiar

Literally, it makes your familiar a sacrificial goat, for all intents and purposes. Combined with the Mauler archetype and some magic items to reduce damage, etc, crank up HP, and other effects, it CAN be useful for keeping you alive. Especially if you're a small sized character and you use your familiar as a mount.

Protector and Mauler do not stack. Also, you can't have Protector Improved Familiars.

Hmm so looks like Improved familiar don't work with archetypes :(
So errrm

Would you say there was a water themed familiar that could work with like the mauler archetype and would be better than just having a tidepool dragon.

But it is kind of awesome for that. And it gives +2 AC, and that's nice.

To be more specific, Improved Familiars do not gain the ability to speak with creatures of their kind. So, if an archetype replaces this ability, the Improved Familiar can't take it, because they don't have the ability to be replaced. There are only a couple archetypes that don't trade out this ability though.

Looks like I'm gonna have a tidepool dragon emissary of Ragadahn using the ocean domain xD

Just need to work out what his cleric level is. Lol
