Clerics, inquisitors, paladins and warpriests, and anyone with an archetype calling on a deity needs to worship a deity for PFS. Druids, rangers and oracles do not.
If you want an atheist cleric, try the oracle. You didn't call god, they called you...
6. RELIGION
Characters can worship any deity listed in the table of
gods in the Core Rulebook, Pathfnder Campaign Setting: The
Inner Sea World Guide, Pathfnder Campaign Setting: Gods
and Magic, or any other source listed in the Additional
Resources document.
Characters with any number of levels in any of these
classes must select a deity.
• Clerics, inquisitors, paladins, and warpriests.
• Cavaliers and samurai who belong to the order of
the star.
• Any character who chooses a feat or trait tied to a
religion or deity.
• Any character who chooses a class archetype or prestige
class that specifes a deity in its prerequisites.

In the real world with satellites, round the world air travel, etc... you still have people who believe in a flat earth. So why would it be surprising to have a character that didn't believe in the gods. For example maybe a character could deny the existence of the gods and believes that extreme faith simply allows clerics to subconsciously tap into the same energies that Sorcerers, Wizards and such use. I mean they still have to say the magic words (verbal components), wave their hands (somatic), and use special materials. Even many of the effects are the same or similar. Obviously it is just sorcery by another name!

I believe 'Golarion Atheists' do actually exist: They acknowledge the fact that the gods exist, but do not believe they are worthy of worship.

1) Atheism on golarion is most commonly what we would term maltheism: The gods exist. And they suck.
2) It's not nearly as odd as you think. WHY is a cleric evidence for a diety? Because they can do amazing things by calling on their god? The wizard is shooting fireballs from his hands. That guy talking to a skull can raise an undead army. The singer in the capital can put a broken arm back together with a song. The existance of magic makes miracles mundane.

If the DM allows it, any 'divine' class can worship some kind of Force of Light/Nature/Justice/Darkness/Cheese/etc other than Gods themselves and still gain the class features.
Pherhaps the character can travel the world denying that those mighty creatures, while powerful indeed, are not worthy of being called 'Gods' themselves and worshiped as such.

Yeah I've read it. But, I always thought it would be interesting to have a character that channels positive and negative. They would also feel like the gods suck and shouldn't be worshiped. Then again... someone can be a cleric and still not particularly enjoy the god that granted him/her the power. It's an interesting build. Should be fun. Thanks guys.

A cleric of a neutral god with the versatile channeler feat can go both ways.

If you go that route, the Envoy of Balance can improve the Versatile Channeler feat by quite a bit.
If looking to boost Versatile Channeler's anti-undead effect, you can go with Seperatist Cleric to get the Sun or Glory Domain, which is pretty substancial, even with that's archetypes penalties.
