Just "Roll with It" Build

Advice

I want to become a goblin that utilizes the roll with it feat. I was thinking maybe going monk and monkey style but what do you guys think would make this viable/useful. Also would I be able to equip spiked armor and roll into enemies hurting them?

The campaign I will be playing is reign of winter if that helps :)

I'd suggest moving this over to the advice area, not sure how to do that but it involves flagging down a mod.

Regardless, Roll With It has two down sides. For one, it leaves you Staggered the turn after you use it. This makes it pretty bad for martial characters since you are stuck to one move or one standard action. On the flip side, Caster goblins like it quite a bit since they can just cast a spell. The second downside of Roll With It is that the feat requires an immediate action, this means you do not get a swift action on your next turn. Note, you don't actually end up prone unless you bump into something. The upside is that you can not only completely negate an attack, but also move (usually at least 10ft). The distance you move is key, since it allows you to potentially 'Nope" your way out side the range of a full attack. If you just roll 5ft away, the opponent can 5ft up to you and strike you again. 10ft is the magic number, and notably this is one of the few instances in Pathfinder where you round up.

This feat does suffer against folks with longer reaches, but as enemies get larger they also tend to deal more damage. Meaning you can hopefully get out of the way 50% of the time. Take the Tree-runner alternate racial trait for +4 to acrobatics, and use your high dexterity to have an obscene acrobatics and initiative check. This also helps out goblin casters.

I don't know much about Reign of Winter, but as goblins are rubbery fire-starters any caster with a few fire-spells, roll with it, and Int or Wisdom as a casting stat will probably do fine. Potentially consider a Goblin Druid who learns Flame blade and the Flame Blade Dervish feat. You still get spells, but also get a bonus to how far you can roll with your feat, a bonus to dexterity, and the ability to use that dexterity for smiting folks with the Flame Blade (take Slashing Grace).

Consider the Elemental Ally or the Plane of Fire Domain. You could also just take an animal companion to help keep you safe while you are staggered.

I flagged the post as in the wrong sub-forum, thanks for the advice. Also, can't you charge if you are staggered?

As a charge is a full round action, I don't think so.

1 person marked this as a favorite.

You can.

Core Rulebook, p. 198 wrote:
If you are able to take only a standard action on your turn, you can still charge, but you are only allowed to move up to your speed (instead of up to double your speed) and you cannot draw a weapon unless you possess the Quick Draw feat. You can’t use this option unless you are restricted to taking only a standard action on your turn.

Huh, I stand corrected.

Liberty's Edge

Though honestly, I don't know how you could go with this build and not play a rogue with http://www.d20pfsrd.com/classes/core-classes/rogue/rogue-talents/paizo-rogu e-advanced-talents/defensive-roll-ex/

or
http://www.d20pfsrd.com/classes/core-classes/barbarian/rage-powers/paizo-ra ge-powers/rolling-dodge-ex/
though that one doesn't actually involve rolling. And rogues can stand up as a free actionhttp://www.d20pfsrd.com/classes/core-classes/rogue/rogue-talents/paiz o-rogue-talents/stand-up-ex/
unchained rogues get dex to damage to boot. But maybe I just love rogues (obviously druid or something more op, and goblin alchemist is definitely a thing... but...)

Though I don't have it all handy, there is definitely a feat chain for crashing into people with spiked armor - though I think originally designed for dwarves: http://www.d20pfsrd.com/feats/combat-feats/spiked-destroyer-combat/

Note that there are of course several goblin feats related to lighting things on fire and I don't think it's really a spoiler to say reign of winter has a lot of things to light on fire...

I played a bard for we be goblins with this. Charisma is a hard hit but.. damn it's funny times and goblin bards get some nifty feats just for them.

I did see someone plan out a vital striking goblin barbarian with the roll with it feat once. Gorum's divine fighting technique was involved to get vital strike on a charge.

Need 4 levels of Rogue (scout) for sneak attack on a charge.
