Carrion Crown: Investigator a good idea?

Advice

Hey all. My group is looking at playing through Carrion Crown in the near-ish future, and I get to be a player again! And I came across the Investigator, which I can honestly say I'd never looked at before? I play bards and witches, that support-face niche is my JAM. But it looks really cool!

But I have no idea how to run one, build one, what have you. I don't even know if the investigator is a good class? In general or for CC? And for a small party?

Proposed party is as follows:
-maybe a sorcerer
-a human vigilante for sure (faceless something? Totally unfamiliar with that class as well, gotta say, but Husbando is psyched to play it.)
-possibly a fourth guy, but he's no guarantee. I just know he tends toward evil alignment.

So yeah. I'm looking at a tiefling (that is totally set, not changing race) investigator? But I know we could probably use some holy help or something too... I just don't want to play range.

Any thoughts?

A couple of thoughts-

The investigator is a class that takes some time to come online in terms of combat utility, which is fine since there's not a ton of combat in book 1 of Carrion Crown.

That being said, you will very much want someone who can channel positive energy for that first book. Book 2 is 100% star time for an Investigator though.

Correct me if i'm wrong, Carrion Crown is undead heavy right? you could play the Gravedigger Investigator, it would fit the campaign. you lose a few nice things, but gain some extra spells,a bunch of occultist abilities and the ability to kill undead with a spade/shovel.

Investigator is always a good idea.

This character is having a blast in an online version. Be sure to have big strong friends with armor, though...

We are in the second book, and he has been in his element.

So, general consensus seems to be that Investigator is a good choice here.

In that case, any suggestions on how to go about it? Archetype or no? I like the flavor of the Gravedigger, but I'm not thrilled with the occult powers? Just never used them before.

I'm looking at being our face/skills/maybe support?

Oh, and ability scores (in no particular order): 18, 18, 16, 16, 13, 12.

Thanks so much for your input thus far!

With those stats you could play anything. Pick something for flavour and go crazy.

Empiricist archetype will be a blast with those stats. 18 INT 18 STR 16 DEX 16 CON 13 WIS 12 CHA (all social skills will be keyed to INT). You'll have a ton of fun, longspear with combat reflexes is kind of perfect for this stat set. Master of skills and control the battlefield with reach.

Investigator is always a good idea. If you want to be the skill focused pick empiricist.

If you want more combat focused character Lamplighter is probably the next best choice.

I second lamplighter! Gets excellent Initiative abilities as well as intriguing additional "spells" in the Alchemical Illumination ability. Mostly gives up 'meh' abilities like Poison Use/Lore, Trap Sense... Keeps Trapfinding, which is another reason I like it!

How would the Skeptic fare in CC since I heard there will be Haunts and I hate them?
