JD's Giantslayer AP - Book 2

Game Master Jack Daniels

Google Slides

Hi all! Welcome and let's try to have fun! I am excited to GM this AP starting in Book 2. I am based in the EST so my posts will be sometimes in the day but mostly after 6:00 PM on weekdays. Talk among yourselves and try and finalize your characters and purchases. I will review the characters for correct skill calculations and feats. Any questions, please let me know.

Fem Half-elf Arcanist 4. AC 13, t 13, ff 11, hp 26, Fort +3, Ref +4, Will +6, Init +2; Perception +8, Portrait

Checking in.

Penny was part of the defense of Trunau, though she isn't a local. A wandering relic hunter who skulks around Belkzen looking for lost artifacts.

She has all the knowledges and covers arcane, but needs help in the wild. :)

Half-elf Rogue 4. AC 21, T 17, FF 14, HP: 34/34, Fort +3, Ref +10, Will +3, Init +6; Perception +10, Shield spell: 3/3

Thank you for selection, JD! Look forward to playing this.

Ranger (4) Wounds (0) HP (40) AC (22/23/19, +4 vs giants) Saves (7/6/4, +2 Hardy) Adaptable (40/40) Blessings (5/5) Lvl 1 (1/1)

Hello one and all! Glad to be here. Ulmo was also at Trunau. It’ll be easier with us knowing each other. He is a dwarf born to a famous name who is trying to earn one for himself.

Fem Half-elf Arcanist 4. AC 13, t 13, ff 11, hp 26, Fort +3, Ref +4, Will +6, Init +2; Perception +8, Portrait

Well three so far helped in the defense of Trunau, so they know each other in that regard.

Fem Half-elf Arcanist 4. AC 13, t 13, ff 11, hp 26, Fort +3, Ref +4, Will +6, Init +2; Perception +8, Portrait

Changed my avatar, couldn't find anything I really liked in the Half-elves so I picked one from the Elf's.

A little bit weirder. :)

Checking in. Thanks for the invite, and glad to be here!

I didn't originally have Baer planned to be part of the defense of Trunau, but I suppose I could change that, if you think having these four already know each other, at least in passing. Not a big deal, unless our gracious GM says otherwise. ;)

Ranger (4) Wounds (0) HP (40) AC (22/23/19, +4 vs giants) Saves (7/6/4, +2 Hardy) Adaptable (40/40) Blessings (5/5) Lvl 1 (1/1)

Any chance we can get gameplay open so we can add this to our campaign lists?

No need to make Baerothad part of the defense. Even if the others were it doesn't mean we were close, could just mean we know the face. :)

Easiest way to met would be to have those of us who were part of the defense being asked to do a job to help Trunau.

We all agree and then realize a Cleric would be a big help.

And there's a new guy just arrived so we won't be taking away someone who's already needed in Trunau.

Done. I created a placeholder for now. How well you know each other is your personal choice. It could be casual - you saw each other briefly during the defense or you were soldiers in the mud with each other defending the town. I leave that to each player. I've kept the defense of the town very general also, in case anyone here has not played through Book 1. All you have to know is that there was a massive orc raid that you survived and now you have been chosen to travel through the wilderness and take out the hill giant leader of the tribe.

Half-elf Rogue 4. AC 21, T 17, FF 14, HP: 34/34, Fort +3, Ref +10, Will +3, Init +6; Perception +10, Shield spell: 3/3

Jericho would be cordial and friendly to all of you having seen you defend the town during the siege.

Then I'll stick with what I had, that Baerothad has been sent in as a representative of his church to try and be of some help, and then is asked to participate in the expedition.

I've started reviewing character sheets.
Ulmo:
The dwarven Giant-Sticker is from 2018 source book.
You have one 1st level spell as a 4th level ranger, I believe, which I do not see in your sheet.
The ACP for both the armor and shield are -4(-3) and -2(-1) for total of -3. I have your Stealth score at +6 while wielding both.
Also your Perception and Survival are off by 1 - I both at +10 (4 ranks +3 proficiency + 3 wisdom). How do you get +11?
I think you are missing 1 rank in skill points (4 in intimidate, perception, stealth, and survival and 3 in K (dungeoneering)) leaves 1 extra skill point.
Where does adaptable study come from?

Google Slides

Baerothad:
Please fix profile to read Cleric 4 (it says Cleric of Torag 1)
+1 Breastplate costs 1350 gp, not 1200
Your combat post says MW Warhammer but your equipment only lists warhammer.
Bag of holding costs 2500 gp not 1200 gp.
Cloak of resistance +1 costs 1000 gp not 2000 gp.
Potions of cure light wounds (not healing) heal 1d8+1, not 2d4+2.
Your equipment goes over the 6000 gp limit. Please amend.
Spells are 4 0-level, 4 1st level, and 3 2nd-level (not 4 2nd level).
Armor from breastplate is +7 so AC with shield is 20, not 19.
Saves are +7/+3/+8 with cloak.
You are encumbered with current gear and 14 Str. It does not affect your AC, just armor check penalty.
Perception should be +8 with Seeker trait bonus.
Your hit points are off by 6 (you should have 35). You did not add +2 Con bonus for levels 2-4.
Skill points are off: 3 per level (human) = 12 + 8 (2/level) background = 20. You spent only 13.

I'll change it to a longspear.

Good catch. I'll add longstrider.

Infilgrator from ABP 2010

Penny:
I think you have an 1 extra ability point to spend, original point spread is 19 (instead of 20) with 15 Int and then +2 from race +1 at 4th level.

The infiltrator archetype talks about adaptations, which the ranger can use in 10-minute increments, which you picked Natural Armor +2. I do not see where it says Adaptable Study. In your profile, under Offense, you put:

* Adaptable Study: Move action +1 hit/damage against non-giant.

Jericho:
You selected the indomitable faith trait. Who is your deity?
You have no basic equipment. I assume you will purchase when you leave town. Is that correct?

Ranger (4) Wounds (0) HP (40) AC (22/23/19, +4 vs giants) Saves (7/6/4, +2 Hardy) Adaptable (40/40) Blessings (5/5) Lvl 1 (1/1)

Huh…that was from an older version before I started taking out options post 2015. I’ll get that removed.

Weird? I use PCGen for my characters and it was showing 20 points spent. Added another onto Int and it was still showing 20 points spent?

So Int is now 19, doesn't change anything else. :)

...wow. * embarrassed * I was rushing, and it shows. Apologies. Will fix.

That's not what I meant. You can either make Str 12 or make it 10 and one of your other 12 stats can be raised to 13. Your Int stays at 18.

For the record, I have dotted in gameplay. Just deleted the post after doing so. When the group is ready, so am I.

Ok, Int is back to 18, Str is now 12. Penny is buff. :)

Just waiting on Baerothad's ok that his sheet was amended to move on.

And sadly, I have crappy news to share.
We learned yesterday at work that our third shift was being laid off, and that the first and second shifts were now on 10-12 hour mandatory overtime for the next few months, with some Saturdays thrown in as needed.

I waited til today to try and get more details, and see how I felt after my first day...and I'm exhausted. There's no way I'll be able to keep up with a daily game right now.

I'm SO sorry to have to back out right now. I was seriously looking forward to this game and playing with you guys. You have my most sincere apologies on this. I didn't know this was coming, or I wouldn't have even applied at the last minute, in the first place.

Again, sorry, JD.

Damn, that is awful Baerothad.

I hope things improve for you sooner rather than later.

That’s horrible! I’m really sorry to hear that. I hope things turn around for you soon.

Jericho prays to Milani, half-elven deity, which was not popular in Kyonin, I imagine. Added to profile.

Correct, will purchase equipment when we leave Trunau. I have to keep inventory weight down.

Hey all, I have reached out to one of the players from the Recruitment thread to replace Baerothad so hopefully, we can start soon.

HP 36/36 Nonlethal 00/36| AC 19 T 10 FF 19 | CMB +9, CMD 18 | F: +7, R: +3, W: +6 | Init: +4 | Perc: +10 | Equipped Weapon: Earth Breaker +8 (2d6+7/×3 Bludgeoning) | Speed 20/30ft | Active Conditions: *NONE* | Special Abilities DSmite +1 6/6: |
Spells Per Day:
1: LStride 2/2, TStomp 1/1, TStrike 1/1 | 2: BSkin 1/1, BStr 2/2

=)

Fem Half-elf Arcanist 4. AC 13, t 13, ff 11, hp 26, Fort +3, Ref +4, Will +6, Init +2; Perception +8, Portrait

Welcome aboard Goliath.

Ranger (4) Wounds (0) HP (40) AC (22/23/19, +4 vs giants) Saves (7/6/4, +2 Hardy) Adaptable (40/40) Blessings (5/5) Lvl 1 (1/1)

Agreed, welcome!

Fem Half-elf Arcanist 4. AC 13, t 13, ff 11, hp 26, Fort +3, Ref +4, Will +6, Init +2; Perception +8, Portrait

I'm thinking that giving Penny a slight rebuild might be a good idea.

Still an Arcanist, just with the White mage archetype to add a touch more healing so Goliath isn't sacrificing all his spells for to keep us alive.

No real changes to Penny, I just lose one exploit but gain the ability to turn a spell into a Cure spell of the same level.

Thoughts on this?

Half-elf Rogue 4. AC 21, T 17, FF 14, HP: 34/34, Fort +3, Ref +10, Will +3, Init +6; Perception +10, Shield spell: 3/3

Welcome, Goliath!

I like the idea, Penny. That and potions/wand and we should be good.
