Trump told Tea Party groups at WH if GOP health care plan dies, he will let Obamacare fail and let Dems take the blame, I'm told.

Queue up the people on the left blaming Dems right here.

That's what I do every week right now (social work internship), but still.

That assumes that he can make Obamacare fail.

Granted, the ongoing uncertainty around its future is inherently damaging and Trump has already taken executive action to undercut it as much as possible... but it is still entirely likely that it will continue to hold up fairly well. Premium increases will be higher than they needed to be, but we probably aren't looking at total collapse during this presidential term.

Also, the entire Republican party has been running on repealing the monstrous evil that is Obamacare for the past six years. If they don't do something which they can pretend is a repeal I can't imagine even conservatives would fail to notice the hypocrisy. Besides, how exactly would that story go...

"See? We told you Obamacare was evil! See how premiums are exploding? Not our fault. You only gave us complete control of the government... so there was nothing we could do to stop it."

Although, IIRC my flyover geography, that's actually in Missouri.

Regarding flyover geography, Kansas City proper is in Missouri. Overland Park is a suburb of the city across the state line. Hence, Kansas Senators Roberts and Moran.

I don't know. All my friends without insurance complain they can't afford it and all I've ever seen over the past year or two are articles about different carriers pulling out of the exchanges.

I didn't realize Obamacare was working.

Probably a matter of definitions;

'Working': The rate of premium increase has slowed and the number of uninsured has declined.

'Not working': Health insurance isn't cheap and not everyone is covered.

It's a scene from the movie that has to be seen. There is no way to do it justice given the boards rating.

Putting the terms "Deadpool" and "International Women's Day" into your search engine of choice is quite illuminating.

There is a Kansas City, Kansas on one side of the river, and the larger Kansas City, Missouri, on the other side. I recall the last time I was there, the whole area smelled strongly of coffee, but as it was late on a Sunday afternoon, I couldn't find a cup anywhere. The smell was apparently due to the Folgers factory. Really beautiful old brick buildings and lots of nice people.

Their problem is that Obamacare was essentially the republican plan. It was the republican alternative to Hillarycare in the 90s. So of course they don't have another one.

Mind you, by "Republican Plan", we actually mean the plan that Republicans used to counter more progressive alternatives. Both in the 90s and with Romneycare in Mass.

They never actually wanted any plan, even this one.

Quite a few Republicans who are objecting to Ryancare are doing so on the basis that it's not nearly cruel ENOUGH.

My favorite smell of any city was of Milwaukee at night. The beer planet was going strong, and the whole city smelled of brownies. Downside of that was that it gave me a craving for brownies I wasn't able to satisfy.

He certainly can. One, he can refuse to fix the problems that it DOES have in the nature of premiums and insurance companies that are bailing out of the program as well as the states that refused the Medicaid expansion. Two, as noted above, he can undercut it by signing executive orders not to enforce the individual mandate.

Then he'll spin it as the inevitable failure of an Obama construction.

Right. Of course, one needn't look too far to know that the actual solution is socialized medicine, but good luck getting that passed.

Meanwhile, one name I saw suggested for the House's healthcare bill -- the Pay More, Get Less Act -- is, unfortunately, sadly appropriate. Unless you're an insurance company, of course. :P

I would just assume he doesn't want his name connected to "caring." Caring is for losers.

Trump licenses his name out. Which means he makes money even if the product or business tanks.

On topic:

Keep doing this (from 4th March 2017). Focus on the local and state items, tailoring the party to the locale.

Time enough to mount the 2020 campaign once 2018 is wrapped up and the (D) Party knows what they're dealing with.

Although North Korea may have already flung a few nukes by then...

Since the South Korean President's dismissal was just finalized, there's a chance the successor will defy U.S. wishes and increase contact with the North. That could satiate Un's need for attention a bit longer.

Other things aside, I do hope North and South Korea find a way to reconcile in the nearish future. ...Mind you, I'm not terribly optimistic about this actually happening, but it would be nice to see that particular conflict ended.

As long as there is a fratricidal nutcase with delusions of godhood running the North, that's not likely.

Sovereign Court

North Korea's leaders don't have any vested interest in opening themselves up to the world. They have a lot of people who have suffered under their rule and it's unlikely the South would offer them clemency. Most likely what North Korea wants is trade, a source of world goods, like American and European luxury goods for the ruling elites, but the south has an impressive high tech industry and the North would probably like to have a greater presence on the internet. I'm sure they're inspired by China's ciber warfare division and it may be a legitimate way to wage war against the US and potentially make money in the process.

What I saw on the news today suggested that the next likely president of South Korea will be Moon Jae-in, the chief of staff under the previous president at the end of the Sunshine Policy years.

That being said, I'm only posting because the removal of the South Korean president reminds me that it's been a while since I made a witch post.

So according to the Washington Post, Donald Trump's fallibility, which is still under 50%, is higher than Hilary Clinton. Just 35% of registered voters have a favorable opinion of Clinton with 55% having an unfavorable. The majority of people hated both candidates but you'd think, considering she won the popular vote, and the fact that she hasn't been in the news lately that her unfavorable opinion would decline and some folks start feeling buyers remorse or something, causing her favorable to rise, but I'd guess from these numbers folks are blaming Hilary and maybe the DNC for Trump rather then wishing she'd won. The story suggests that this isn't unusual, they point out that Romney's favorbility dropped after the election causing him to have more unfavorable opinions then favorable, but Clinton's numbers are worse.

I'll just point out here that Bernie Sander's numbers still haven't dropped at all. People still have more of a positive than negative opinion of him. So good work DNC, you know how to tip the scales toward winner don't you?

It seems rather pointless to continually bemoan that Bernie was not chosen by Democratic voters, much less to continue to mistakenly blame the DNC. Bernie lost by millions of votes, I know it stings to lose, but hyping up highly inaccurate conspiracy theories is the exact opposite of useful.

It's kind of a right wing thing in the US to claim to be guided by supernatural powers, most of the candidates in these past primaries claimed god told them to run for president, which can only be embarrassing for god as that many people being wrong about their wishes can only lead some to doubt there's actually any supreme being and, in fact, that it's opportunistic sociopaths exploiting people's beliefs for personal gain. I'll try to avoid saying which side of the debate I fall under.

I know, all the DNC did was coordinate with the Clinton campaign to smear Sanders, give Clinton debate questions, conduct massive purges of voter registries prior to elections, deliberately misinform independents when they were allowed to vote in open primaries about which ballet to use, helped to spread a narrative about Bernie voters being violent/sexist/uninformed, but to be fair to the DNC they did that in secret. If it hadn't been for the "Russian hackers" none of that would have come to light. We should place our attention on the thing that cost the Democrats the election: Russians!

Just curious, can you link me to credible sources that cite any of this information? Not the e-mails, but the actual activities undertaken by the DNC that have been corroborated.

For example, the only purging of voters in a democratic primary that I can find happened in Brooklyn, where Clinton won pretty handily. It seems unlikely Clinton would have purged voters in a district that supported her strongly, unless there's evidence that they could target voters rolls with laser like precision... which given all the evidence of other polling being off, seems unlikely. Odds are, Clinton lost more voters than Sanders did in the voter roll purge, which seems like a really bad way to cheat in Clinton's favor.

The debate questions thing seems solid, though whether that was more a DNC thing or a "don't hire campaign strategists as media analysts" thing is an open question.

The others? I'm not even sure most of that is in the emails. There are some suggestions about smears, but at least some of them don't seem to have been used. Edit: a lot of that read like junior staffers throwing around ideas, probably getting slapped down in emails (or more formal communications?) we didn't get to see.
