So I guess we can now confirm Kasathas as a player character race, right? I think Ratfolk and Androids were already known as such.

I'll also say that I really like the Art direction!

One of the functions of concept art, which is what we were originally showing, is to determine what works, and what doesn't. Having that stage allows us to get to this stage. :)

Kasatha! Yaaaaaay! They're my favorite race. >w>

I can't stop this feeling
Deep inside of me
Girl, you just don't realize
What you do to me

When you hold me
In your arms so tight
You let me know
Everything's all right

I'm hooked on a feeling
I'm high on believing
That you're in love with me

What's the pre-reqs for the Four-Weapon Fighting feat? Hmm...

I didn't know what Kasatha were until you guys brought it up. I was hoping for Thri-kreen personally, but now that I know about these guys I'm just as psyched!

Nice new art, I like it.

Does this mean that the Androids are going back to the classic look? Not that robot-like look we saw earlier?

Silver Crusade

I very much like this new landing page, mostly because of the Kasatha on it! Very exciting!

Edit: the inclusion of both ranged and melee weapons in the art also has me very intrigued as to the direction of combat. Definitely looking forward to any new announcements coming from your offices!

All the pathfinder Androids I've seen look like that, which ones are you talking about?

The first Starfinder page had an Android with a very clunky/blocky/strange physiognomy style that was (at least to my sensibilities) incredibly jarring.

Now that is way, way more like it. Kudos to the Art Direction, and of course the artist(s).

You can see the then-presentation of the android Here

Who's handling the art direction for Starfinder?

A thing I'd like to note: as far as I can see, on all Starfinder art shown so far, androids don't wear gas masks while all other races, in contrast, do wear them. I believe this implies an abundance of hostile atmospheres as well as androids having some form of immunity to them (perhaps, lack of need to breathe?) as a racial trait.

Ah okies, thanks.

Yeah, that is really jarring.

Hmm, with the art of the half covered android (or cyborg?) next to them maybe it was supposed to show how Androids were made and then put through the fleshy process or something?

*shrugs*

Wow, I was already looking forward to Starfinder and now you show me this. This is a nice piece of inspiring art. Well done!

so much yeah.

The kasatha technowizard or whatever he (she?) is, looks perfect. Exactly the blend of sci-fi and fantasy I was hoping for

Anyone else notice the station in the background? I wonder if that's the new look for Absalom Station?

While their racial traits could have changed for Starfinder, they still have to breathe in Pathfinder.

Liberty's Edge

Very Nice !!!

The Kasatha does have everything covered

The Android might have a racial feat/augmentation that helps it hold its breath FAR longer ;-)

I like the new news too : Thousands of year in the future, key hardcover rules supplement (wonder what those will be)

The Starfinder line will include both a hardcover core rulebook and key hardcover rules supplements, as well as a Starfinder Adventure Path that provides you with epic campaigns, expanded rules elements, and new monsters to battle. Best of all[/quote wrote:

Is this the first actual confirmation we have had that the Starfinder line is going to be supplemented by additional hardcover books? I feel like the initial announcements really focused on "This is one book...maybe if it does well we might see more".

Someone said in the Starfinder panel at PaizoCon that it would be hard to imagine them not doing a Starfinder Bestiary, but they did not confirm that they were infact doing a bestiary at that time.

Kasatha always cover their faces, it's part of their culture. It's only ratfolk that have been wearing gas masks with no explanation given yet.

Maybe Ratfolk in Starfinder have a superior sense of smell and cannot stand the stench of most of the places that they are likely to be adventuring in? Scent is available as an alternate racial trait for them in Pathfinder.

While their racial traits could have changed for Starfinder, they still have to breathe in Pathfinder.

That is exactly why the art drew my attention.

Could be. Could also be they're weaker to disease, or even require a special gas to live, gas that has become part of Akiton's atmosphere since the Pathfinder times.

It could be that it's not actually a gas mask, but a normal helmet that has rebreathers/air tanks so that they can breathe in space (the main page DOES say ratfolk mechanic, and mechanics I assume will be making repairs to spaceships).

Our Creative Design Director (Sarah Robinson), though obviously she is in close contract with the Starfinder Creative Director (James Sutter) and our Chief Creative Officer and Publisher (Erik Mona). And Senior Developer Rob McCreary and I offer our thoughts, when appropriate and helpful.

I will also note that the logo is still subject to change.

Good to hear Vic. As I was quite critical of the intial/current logo, I'd really like to see it "pop" the same way the "Pathfinder" logo does.

So THAT's a Kasatha! I'd been asking about that elsewhere on here. Great art by the way! I approve.

They make a bunch of appearances in Iron Gods if they pique an interest you'd like to feed before Starfinder hits next year. Three words: dual wielded chainsaws.

Dual wield portable ship cannons, and become a literal walking tank. Dual wield Fat Mans, become the party's long range artillery. Dual wield Heavy Flamethrowers, become a Firebat (StarCraft reference).

I may go look into that. Thanks!

So with 7 core races and 7 classes, I can't help but wonder if the iconics will be one of each race. And if that's the case, and IF these 3 are some of our iconics, I can't help but wonder-what classes are these 3?

Rat- Mechanic
Android- Soldier?
Kasatha- Technomancer?
