For GenCon, if I have a pre-planned group of 4 players, can they be seated and played as Core at a table? Would I need to find 2 additional people in order to have a functioning table?
Just reporting back...
My two pre-mustered Core tables ran without a hitch. Worked smooth.
However, the reporting was not smooth and continues to be an issue. One of the sessions was reported as Normal instead of Core. This has created a cascading issue when these characters came back home and were played with other Core characters.
I reported the issue. It's been 11 days since and no word back about getting it fixed. I'm hoping this is a minor glitch in the system and will be fixed soon.
Just in case, I reported it via the "report this session" for the character. That is the proper method, yes?

Although Cort Odekirk says that it is an urban legend, my personal experience is contrary to his assertion. I have reported a Core table with one PFS character and all the other characters were converted to PFS and had to be fixed. I have been careful to watch my reporting since and it may be possible that this will no longer occur, but I strongly recommend you double check your scenario and character types before submitting.

I honestly paid very little attention to whether the online system said my character was Core or not until an online GM refused to report it with one of my characters. In my opinion, the little "Core" tag means almost nothing as there are tons of Core characters out there that are the wrong tag. Chronicles are everything. Not that everyone will agree with me on that.

Reporting as Standard shouldn't revert a character from Core to Standard.
It's just appearing in the reporting of those games and not actually cascading then? That's good news. Thanks!
Per your link, it sounds like I'll have to have the entire group of people report back to get their characters switched back to Core after getting the erred game fixed. They won't convert back automatically. Doh! I should have included that request in my email request instead of just an email to fix the session.
For posterity, I did get an email back saying that I was in the queue to have it fixed. I'm 14 days into the queue. They are pretty backed up from GenCon. I coordinate the reporting (and fixing) for ~15 and that is rough enough at times. I couldn't imagine doing it for the entire PFS population!

Core is fairly strong here. We have several players that play quite steadily, and they would have almost no scenarios to play without core. I mean, part of that was because we have a lot low levels, so there are a lot of 7-11 tier we haven't done.
Before core, I was running APs and Modules, because I couldn't find any scenarios that weren't already played.

I tried to muster Core tables at GenCon 2016, but it was very difficult to find Core players.
The one Core game I managed to muster, 6-99: True Dragons of Absalom, went off without a hitch and was reported correctly.
Tried to do the same, but the musterers just wanted to seat me ASAP instead of letting me wait for CORE players (which I don't fault them for). Also, oftentimes they would tell me I was the only person they had ask for CORE anyway for that slot.
Having organized conventions and gamedays, I can tell you that CORE games are far less likely to happen than at local gamedays. The last convention I ran, all the CORE games I scheduled got converted back to Classic. It's just the nature of conventions.
