Dude, the vigilante is so appropriate it's inappropriate. It is, without a doubt, the ultimate in lukewarm.

Oh, look! I can do all the things! I'm a vigilante! All you other guys are the lolzers.

If Clive Staples Lewis were an rpg philosopher, he'd tell the vigilante class to sign on with Screwtape & Co.

It doesn't f~&$ing matter you f*%@in f$+#er. F+&@ing paizo is gonna errata it because they hate jocks/martials.

You're only proving my point -- even if Batman were a paladin of Iomedae or Torag, he smites insufficiently to prove he's a paladin. Paladins don't smite evil with rubber-padded rooms -- they smite evil with the stuff that kills you.

To call any hero a vigilante is like saying humans are animals -- vague, uncertain, and lacking the rigorous examination that supplies distinction: which thing is inherently required to be a "hero". To *be* the "super special snowflake" requires sufficient differentiation from the rest of the snowflakes, and if your examination is so cursory as to say "snowflakes are snowflakes", while you are not incorrect, you haven't gotten to the defining characteristic that makes it special. Seeing that the vigilante class really doesn't differentiate itself from anything, it's a lackluster class to associate with the pinnacle of extant characterization of mankind. Do better. :)

Batman is only a ninja if "Combat Style" is the only one telling the story. He knows ninjitsu, sure, but that's not all. Ninjas don't program computers; ninjas steal or destroy computers. C'mon, dude! :)

I also enjoy reading your stuff, Lemmy, ever since you solved the Great Goblin Baby Debate with your holy sword solution. That was the most zen thing I'd ever read. You figured out one-hand clapping. The elegance, the simplicity - the simple fact that any GM who said they die is by default declaring they're evil and you made the right decision and if the GM doesn't have them die, again, you made the right decision, no matter what - the God of Gods for your game has to make the call for you. Simply brilliant!

Haha... Thanks!

Let's hope there's no evil badass baby born with 2 HD. XD

vigilante/paladin/ninja multiclass?

I still defend the idea that Bruce Wayne has its own Batman class (a very overpowered class, BTW). And the Vigilante is just a failed attempt to recreate it.

I'd suggest Urban Ranger with maxed out favored enemy (human) for Batman.

Ranger magic can fill at least some of the holes left by the lack of access to Batman's wonderful toys.

Still gets curb-stomped by Supes, though. Classless unique godling with limitless stats wins every time. Superman is the pun pun of the DC universe.

I'm sorry, but who won that battle... certainly wasn't the audience.

There are no new stories to tell. Can't fault ol' C.S. for that, can we? I don't read his fiction, personally. Screwtape Proposes a Toast is where it's at. It's a philosophical treatise veiled behind some make-believe metaphors. Great, excellent material. Just my opinion.

Hmmm . . . .

Which leads me to *this* observation: There are no new dice to roll. So that means . . . . This is all a series of equations experiencing itself subjectively . . . . Which is . . . . Heaven defend me. Pathfinder is algebra.

Burns 2 uses of LoH to activate feat: Channel Charlton Heston.

PATHFINDER IS ALGEBRA!!!!

I must go pray my way through this crisis of faith, folks. Pray for me.

lolz:
I can't stop laughing. And I have work to do! Somebody lash me to my surfboard, please, and wake me up when the tsunami is over, okay? 'Cause this is JUST. TOO. GOOD.

I'm tempted to argue that Superman's class is actually expert, but his racial mods and abilities are completely absurd.

I mean, he's not a trained warrior or anything like that. (Does Supes even know how to use a weapon?) Instead, he's a civilian with utterly absurd powers from birth.

It doesn't matter if you're a 5th level expert if your physical stats are four digit numbers. (Or rather, it only matters if that 5th level expert needs to roll a will save, and IIRC Supes fails his will save all the damn time =P)

Indeed... That's because Superman only has one real power: BE OVERPOWERED. It doesn't matter how strong you are in the DC universe... At some point, for whatever reason, Superman will overpower you (or at least be able to do so).

(Apparently he's even stronger than other kryptonians for some reason. I heard this is supposedly because he spent his growing years under the yellow sun or whatever. I don't know how cannon that is, though. I just remember this from a discussion with friends).

It doesn't matter if you rolled 18 in all your attributes and have all of 5~6 levels in an overpowered class... The Expert 2/Brawler 1 with a +30 HD race/template will win every time. :P

Batman, however, does occasionally display the one greater power, though: GM favoritism. XD

OK, I know the almost irresistible lure of the pointless thread, but what are people really doing here?
You don't like the thread, OK, that is fine.
If something breaks guidelines, FLAG IT AND MOVE ON. Beyond that, IT ISN'T YOUR RESPONSIBILITY TO SABOTAGE THREADS YOU DON'T LIKE! Running up the post count just keeps the thread alive longer. This thread would have fallen off the page if people just ignored it.
Again, if you don't like a thread, or don't agree with it, just ignore it! Don't try to control what other people talk about on the internet.

Sorry for all the bold, but malicious thread derailing just rubs me the wrong way. (Non-malicious thread derailing, and generally pointless threads are absolutely fine however.)

I'd like to see Deadpool vs Superman.

We all know who's going to win that one don't we kids.

I don't know about anyone else, but I'm replying to comments. And one of those was about Lewis - agreed, his religious fiction and his nonfiction were much better than his fantasy. Mere Christianity was a personal favorite of mine. It's been so long since I've seen good apologetic arguments like that one. These days the avenue of religious persuasion has gone the way of evangelism, which to me seems so childish compared to apologetics.

...psst. Similarly, it isn't your job to thread police.

It's not malicious. We took a thread that turned south and brought out something positive (super heroes are fun!)

If anything, it's rude to try to shame us.

This isn't QUITE what you asked for, but it's just as cool, if not cooler

Fair enough.

Also, I never claimed I wasn't rude.
