This is concerning. I completely understand the reasons they delayed MM, but going well over a year between releases seems like it would be detrimental to the game's health. Without new releases in the market, awareness/interest in the game will surely wither. I don't think the class decks count for much except with well-established players.
I obviously don't have Paizo's marketing info, and hope I'm wrong...

Hey there ⚡️
My limited understanding based on Mike Selinker's comments at GAMA, was that Fall 2016/2017 was the release window. So we are looking at December, January, February.
While that seems so far away, Apocrypha should be available mid year (hopefully). Which will give some of us a new game, with new characters, locations, mechanics etc etc to play with.
Thanks

Sadly, you confirmed my worst fear. The delay between WotR and MM is so great now that people will inevitably tune out and move on to other games... If sales of MM are a big drop off from previous sets, how will that impact the PACG going forward?
That may mean July, and it may mean October, but it definitely doesn't mean February.
Well, its not gonna be either of the first two... The delay was announced in Oct 2015... we're looking at a 15-18 month gap now.
=(

That's not exactly what I said, but just FYI: You should never listen to anything I say about a release date for a Pathfinder product. Only listen to Paizo. They speak wise.

They often debut/trial run those and other specials at PaizoCon. For the card game, I'd think more along the lines of a single "Adventure 7" scenario that's then available to everyone than the RPG/ACG combo thing they're trying this year. (Not that they can't do both.)

Sorry, but these kind of responses make me twitch. I'm sure there are plenty of other hobbies I could invest time into while waiting for MM... ones I haven't already spent hundreds of dollars and hours on.
I have no interest in Apocrypha or any other card games.
This highlights the problem I was getting at before... more people move on to other games in the wait, and when MM finally does come out, they don't come back. Fewer players = fewer dollars.
I'd say I'm excited for the post-MM release, but that will be a 2018 release at this rate... Not sure why the devs are even bringing it up at this early juncture.
I think Mass Effect 4 might even be out before then!

The problem was/is that game stores were/Are worried about that there Are too much Pathfinder eating the storage space in the stores. So They asked Paizo to take time Until next Pathfinder release. If game stores don't take more pathfinder to their shelves, it means no sales at all... So there is a good reason why the Mummy has been postponed. Paizo will tell when the Mummy will come out. And I am sure that it has been carefully considered taking account game stores, customers and pathfinder sosiety Gaming!
And I am not worried about people playing something else in between. They will come back! I will I am sure. And there Are so Many good games around, so I don't mind a Little pause to Pathfinder adventures.
Nomadicc, take a deep breath and be assured that Mummu will be big when it is released!
Have a fate, Paizo staff knows what They Are doing.

Apologies for sounding like a grumpy old man. But its like: "Sorry, sir... the filet mignon won't be ready for a while. But in the meantime, you can always go to McDonalds."
I'd say that's pretty offensive to all the people working on Apocrypha.
why not ""Sorry, sir... the filet mignon won't be ready for a while. But in the meantime, you can always try the Châteaubriand"
(Or if you prefer, "We're out of Big Macs, but you can get a Whopper across the road.")
you might not want it, and there's no one forcing you to have it, but there's no need to pour contempt on the whole concept.

I agree with you, nomadicc, that it sucks that people tend to 'move on' to other hobbies while waiting. But I find it rude you just compared Apocrypha to low quality burgers especially since a lot if not most of the team working on PACG are the same people who work on Apocrypha. I don't have the same enthusiasm as them about Apocrypha but I wouldn't use that analogy either.

skizzerz |

Paizo is not involved with Apocrypha in any way from what I know, so I doubt its release schedule impacts when they choose to release a new PACG AP very much, if at all (if it does, it's because the folks at Lone Shark can only devote so many resources to any particular game that they produce at any given time).

nomadicc |

I meant no disrespect or contempt, by any means... sorry if the post came across that way.
I'll agree the filet/burger analogy was a bit off. It wasn't a comment on the quality of the Apocrypha game (which I'm sure will be excellent) vs PACG... but more on the tendency for people to hand wave complaints about the huge delay because other card games exist, or will exist.

Mike Selinker wrote:There is no real connection between these events. Paizo and Lone Shark do have a long history of keeping each other informed of our release strategies, though. So it is not wise releasing Apocrypha 2 and MM on the same day.
The first Apocrypha has not been released yet, MyFly. Most board games don't number releases like movies or video games. They do, however, release named expansions. Remember that Skull & Shackles is not Pathfinder Adventure Card Game 2. All the base sets are technically different games. All based in the Pathfinder Adventure Card Game umbrella.
So hopefully Apocrypha and Mummy's Mask won't be released near each other.

It would seem unlikely that Paizo are trying to measure their release against an unknown event like this
True but I still hope they don't get released around the same time. I want to play BOTH!!! And while I may have the cloning process working okay, the synaptic recombination process is not working just right.

"Indefinitely" is a perfectly proper and accurate English word.

As long as you do not brain freeze when starting to read an article that starts with:
"Simple Definition of indefinite"

I'm pretty sure he was making a comment on his belief (or humorous exaggeration) that Mummy's Puppy's Mask will, in fact, never come out.
To which I reply, Paizo WANTS us all to own this set. They really really do. When you don't have any other input, and you're feeling like speculating, I would recommend that you begin with this assumption and go from there.
Doesn't mean I won't whine (like a... puppy...), but Paizo and I both want the same thing, so I'm'a assume they and I are on the same team.

...
You're probably joking, but I want to assure everyone that these two events are ALSO unrelated.
We know better Mike. You can't fool us. We know about the whole conspiration. Everything is linked!!! All will happen on the same day. And the great Chtoolhoo will be elected on November 8th. And the goblins will rule the world. And I need a coffee...

"De" stands for Germany/Deutschland. Just suppress it and it will never come out. "Infinitely delayd ;-)"

If the thing holding the next set up is primarily the sell-through of the prior two sets, then they may eschew committing to a date until they have a better idea of when that might be. We should all hope that the new tablet app mints a lot of players who will want to go out and buy the physical game.

I do have a few things regarding shelf space.
For years brick and mortar companies have offered in game promo products for pre orders so that they can better estimate how many games to order for release. We see this quite often in video game releases. Since the video gaming stores have a limited amount of time to get the full dollar for a new release they incentivize with in game goods that others cannot get upon release without the preorder. Paizo offers promo cards for an ongoing subscription, and the brick and mortar stores do get promos to give out, but I feel they are missing an important part.
Preorder.
Without this many companies sell off the overstock for a lesser price (coolstuffinc.com sells all PACG products for 35% off new in box). Although I feel that is the game they play (sell more for less = profit).
The promo incentive is there with a paizo sub, but not for the brick and mortar stores. There's got to be a way to better incorporate these shops into the mix so that they can readily and accurately order plenty of product without the flooding of shelf space.
If this is in fact an issue. I feel as if I had read that some people wanted the releases to slow a bit to allow the consumer time to catch up to a game which its releases were far outpacing the consumers wallet.

skizzerz |

There's a Vic post about this (pretty sure it's Vic) but I can't find it at the moment. It went something like so:
Stores that order PACG products from hobby distributors (as opposed to book distributors) usually receive promo cards along with their first order/shipment of a new adventure deck. Reorders are iffier since the distributor may not have any stock of promos left by the time the reorder is placed. So, you can still get promos through your FLGS, as long as that store orders it when it first comes out. Since the distributor ships out promos on a first-come, first-serve basis, the FLGS would need to get in their order early to actually get the promos. Of course, they aren't going to do that unless they know people are going to be buying them, so express your interest to your store and see if you can set up a "subscription" of sorts through them -- they'll order the product as soon as they can, and you're a guaranteed purchase every month it comes in.

Autoduelist |

Mmm... but Paizo withholds some cards from the retailers to encourage direct subscriptions with Paizo.
This is somewhat amusing to me since their Redmond HQ is near the store I buy from (which hosts Paizo events); yet I've been forced to choose between them. So far the store - and eBay & BGG sellers with the cards I'm missing - have been winning that battle.
