Dog keeps waking me at dawn, I'm gonna have a new rug.

It's gonna be inside-out, too.

*comes to treefort to get a nap just after waking up after mere six or seven hours of sleep*

No, I wasn't doing anything productive, just playing Sword Of The Stars whole night... At least I am winning against those pesky humans.

Durn pesky humans. In MY day, you'd swoop down, gobble a dozen or three, and be off to take a six-month nap Now we got this whole Greyhawk Convention folderol and you only get three per year! It's criminal!

Ugh. Three hours to go

Ooey Gooie! ;P

I still say that FullMetal Alchemist - Brotherhood is my favorite anime.

Huey Lewis and the News - Jacob's LAdder.

Of course, Florence Welch is awesome too!

Now I would like to see at least one episode of a big band The Florence Welch Show on PBS.

Bonus points if she hosts it with a German accent and if at least one of the numbers has bubbles.

I'd guest star!

Best comment of last nights game: "Your character is non-Euclidean, too"

Finally on the back half of my 16 hour shift

I'm just starting my 16 hour shift.

Ugh, 16 hour shifts? That's cruel.

Saturday is my only paid shift this week, however the little savages keep me busy for ten hours Monday thru Friday. I just don't get paid in cash for that. :-)

Im a Per Diem guy

Often wonder why
Dressed in blue shirt
God my feet hurt

You can make me run
Push panic buttons just for fun
Guarding patients
Takes a lot of patience

Come on guardy
Let's go party

Uh uh ooooh

As you can see, the hallucinations are beginning to kick in. Or is that the massive infusion of caffeine? I'm not sure

Treppa wrote:

No what is cruel is working when the building air has failed... For 16 hours... On a hot summer day. So yeah 16 hours in 100 degrees, the day is going to be long.

I hear you. An 8-hour shift seems short to me.

What really tear me up is 16 on, 8 off, 16 on. That's a stone b#&@+. This weekend was 8 on, 8 off, 16 on. Not as bad, but oh well.

oo

wooah O.O is that legally possible in America ?

1 person marked this as a favorite.

Yes legal in America... I threatened to quit when they tried to put me on 18 on 6 off 18 on. We really need better work laws.

I'm glad you stood up to them. I know in some places you agree once and they will use that against you if you disagree in the future.

They also better have been paying you double for that at least.

Nope I am salaried meaning I get no extra money for long hours.

Dunno, I was going for an ode to Labyrinth.

What power?
The power of Voodoo.
Who do?
You do.
Do what?
Remind me of the game.

Gah, I hate that movie, my sister watched it every day over summer vacation.

And now my wife bought a Labyrinth shirt for our 2 y/o. Retribution will be swift and slightly annoying.

I have taken careful notes. If we ever meet in real life, I shall take full advantage of your dislike.

You're not going to break out into spontaneous Goblin King singing, are you?

Ugh. That sucks.

At least I am getting straight pay, not salary. Although their notion of when they owe me overtime is a bit whacked. But, considering the alternatives, it could be worse. I could be working for salary for Speedway now, being worked to death and slowly strangling in my own bile.

Aranna wrote:

That is one of the reasons why I prefer to be paid by the hour. Management is less likely to abuse me that way. They do not like paying hour and a half, much less double. Salary suck in so many ways. You poor people are worked so many hours. Of course, I am lucky to have the union helping out some, even if they are largely ineffective anymore.

Edit - I meant no offense to any salary workers. You all are normally paid really well. But the long hours dilute that quite a bit.

Either that, or I'll hire a David Bowie impersonator to dress as the Goblin King and follow you around singing the song.

Ah yes, the good old days, when I WAS paid by the hour! Time and a half rocked!

At one point, we worked so many 80 hour weeks so often that we stopped commenting on it.
When we broke 90-100 hour weeks, THEN we started commenting! ;P

GOOD MORNING TREEFORTNAM!!!

Thunderstorms today, naturally since I have the day off. In happier news, I now have my full compliment of shifts for this pay period, thanks to 16 hours coming available Saturday. I also grabbed a bus gig Wednesday, and I am told I have a few others this summer.

I also bought my plane tickets to GenCon yesterday. I have Taig and Tordek in attendance, so that will be a blast. We had a lot of fun in 2012 at PaizoCon.

Sadly, I can make no promises. Just with the kids and work, my life is pretty full. Not to mention, with my distinct lack of gaming these days, I find the idea of attending a con to be less than enthusiasm-inducing.

But.....who knows what tomorrow may bring.

I bit the bullet and got a drafting table and stool today. Table is solid oak and the top goes from horizontal to vertical, which I need to be able to store it. I can use it level for my laptop for work, and slanted for art. Got a nice swivel stool with pneumatic cylinder, too, so am all set. My laptop is on there now and working very nicely. It's quite comfortable. Plus it's right below the newly discovered ceiling fan, so bonus.

Yay.

Yay.

It's the little things that make life lovely.

I myself bought a gallon pitcher to make drinks in for $4 today. I'd been wanting one for months, but never saw a reasonably-priced one.

Oh, and I sat down for two hours and got all my PbPs updated :D

and swam, and walked, and lifted.

It was a pretty sweet day off.

Now I'm making French Onion soup and baking some strawberry shortcake shells.

Truly Nirvana is found in the small details

So background, at 25 I unlocked the rare achievement of hereditary allergy to alcohol. (Weird I know but 7% of allergies develop late in life and happened to my dad around the same age). So my coworkers like to bother me about it a lot. They do things like buy profiteroles (belgian alcoholic cream and chocolate pastries) in the staff room. Invite folks out to drinks and then ask if I want to come anyway. They don't understand how someone can live without alcohol been doing it for 7 years now. It's my normal and somedays their teasing just drives me a bit crazy.

Haven't they open sourced their patents anyway, though?

I guess if they found out someone was newly diagnosed as diabetic, they'd think it was funny to keep bringing in sugary sweets to share? There's teasing, and then there's being a dick*. Your co-workers are being dicks. You have my sympathies.

* No offense meant to actual penises or those equipped with a penis.

Of course, "going out for a drink" can be more about socialization than drinking, so they might be inviting you for that. I found that tonic water with a wedge of lime looks enough like a mixed drink that booze pushers leave you alone. Very handy. ;)
