Gods what a lovely day! It will be nice to have some veggies soon. My broccoli and lettuce went well

Well, even with inside out clothes it's still excellent

Civ I+, Sid Meyer's Alpha Centauri, Oregon Trail, Carmen Sandiego, Crusader Kings, Europa Universalis, Victoria, Hearts of Iron, Tropico, and so many more. Even today, I still fail to realize how much these and other games have taught me. I am reading Basic Economics and I realize that I already KNOW some of this stuff thanks to video games and RPGs. Hell, even Minecraft teaches you something.

I am rather pleased with my gardening efforts. Today I

  • Built a 8x4x2 garden box
  • Lined that box and another I had previously made with agricultural fabric
  • Filled both boxes with loam
  • Built a 8x8x1 half-box for my pumpkin patch
  • Filled patch with remaining dirt from the 3 yards I had bought to fill boxes with
  • Planted summer squash, butternut squash, green beans, Atlantic Giant a Pumpkins, hot peppers, tomatoes, and butterfly plants

From his retirement on (until his illness got the better of him), my father spent a lot of time working on his garden. He had a really nice set up, with multiple beds and trellises growing everything from your typical cucumbers and tomatoes, all the way to various peppers, egg plant, and chayote (which we Louisianians call merletons). We always had that growing up, usually on the side of the house, but after retirement is when he really got growing.

One day, I plan to duplicate that, although on a smaller scale. First, I'd have to map out my sprinkler system better, to make sure I wasn't building over one of the heads.

Well, he's at a facility. It's in their hands now. I'm just glad I don't have to sit and watch his room all day on the off chance he flies into a rage.

Nothing like fresh veg. I am lucky in that there was this huge unused area where a big greenhouse had once been. I have plenty of room to expand if I end up staying in the house for a while.

I'm going to start a new window box. I want more herbs and stuff.

Who knows what I'll grow? Maybe some lavender and something else that is verdant and makes the house smell nice? Some lemongrass? Would that be good? Hmm.

Lavender is great. Look for lemon balm to plant. It's hardy as all get out. Like epic-level dandelion hardy, and it smells like super lemons.

Just a window box? Poor city slicker....:)

Very tiny things?

There are some plant which are supposedly good at warding off skeeters. Eventually, my plan is to have some planted around my front door and back patio. Especially the back patio - I'd love to have more time back there to sit and relax. Citronella candles help, but not much.

Two hours, 41 minutes to go...

lavender could get a bit big for a window box, and it does not have so much uses in the kitchen

I recomend thyme, chives and chervil, mmmmm chervil

pah! My plants grow quite wonderfully, thank you very much! And I don't have to worry about them taking over the yard or spreading to places they aren't wanted!

Today I picked up...

Hidecote Lavender x1
Mojito mint x1
Thyme x1
Cilantro x1
Italian parsley x1

They will stay in their mini things for a week until I get paid and then into the window box they go.

Yeah I have a lavender the size of a manhole cover. Almost ready to bloom!

That makes no sense. You city slickers sure are weird.

Dang, I probably missed the window for that.

I'm watching the video now. I remember my own wahoo "design" when I was first playing AD&D.

OK, not as wahoo as "Age of Manure". :)

I feel your pain (on the night shift, not the 16 hours part. ugh!). I am still up because I can't get too far off schedule or I will suffer for it. Good luck and I hope the shift goes well.

I think I have overplayed Borderlands 1 and 2. I am a bit bored with them at this point.

Thanks man. Yeah it was hard getting up after 5ish hours and coming back here. I think the toughest thing is working night to day shift. The day shift is inherently busy, since everyone is here, so you are tired from already working eight hours and all of a sudden you are running about doing this and that for everyone who just got to work

~sighs~ I need to clean both Litter Robots and then replace parts until I get at least one to work. Once I figure out what the other needs, then I will get the wife to order those parts.

That does suck. But at least you know the job and you do not have to think too much there. Small comfort. But it is something. Right?

How to clean a Litter Robot.

If you have cats, then I can't suggest these enough. Sliced bread is not as good as these are, when they work.

True. And if it is quiet I have down time. It's not like a manual labor job where I'm worked constantly. I just have to hope that the drunken crazies tourists stay out of trouble tonight.

Just be safe out there. We want you around for a while (unless I am put on the will, then all bets are off!!!).

Edit - If you need to talk to someone, just remember that I am up and available.

I'll tell you though. Some of these tourists. I mean, I go on vacation. I play the tourist. I would never come to someone's home and piss and sh!t all over it like it was nothing while treating the residents like NPC automatons. Guess what? People DO live on Cape Cod. It's more than a beach and a restaurant. Act civilized.

My problem with the night shift (and to a slightly lesser degree the evening shift) is sleep. I get disturbed so much that it is hard to get quality sleep. I am a ass on the best of days and when I do not get enough sleep... Plus I tend to be even more depressed than normal.

I have a simple solution to those kind of people, thin the gene pool out. The others might think twice or join them. Sadly, those people are ALL OVER!!! We had a contractor or two do some nasty stuff in my office. I felt sorry for my cleaning lady. I also blew my top one day and called the contractors boss and chewed him out. Do not disrespect the place that you work. Or you will not be here for long.

Edit - I wonder if those kind of people have some sort of mental illness that is undiscovered. Calling them jerks is not quite the right call in my book. There is something wrong with them.

Gave access to the movie or put you THERE?!?

Edit - Yes, I know. I missed the last part.

I liked the movie for the most part.

Actual Spoilers, do not read unless you've seen it:
All except the last 10-15 minutes, really, when it turned into a completely different movie. I like to pretend all that didn't happen. It should have ended with the girl outside, seeing the alien lights in the distance, and rolled credits. Instead, it just switched genres into a cheesy action film.
