Too bad you don't live in my city. My gaming group has rented a cabin (it sleeps as many as 20, so there will be non gamers there) to celebrate the life of our late friend Jerry by gaming all day and night Friday night, then having our annual Christmas party on Saturday. As the primary GM, it's really important I be there but there's no one available to watch my dogs, so I may not get to go at all. It's at a place called Heifer Ranch (part of Heifer International, a nonprofit I once worked for and which my wife still does) and they have a no pets rule at the ranch because of all the animals there.

Speaking of shifts in data needs, I am going to Verizon FIOS for Internet. I've never used them before. I had hoped to get away with hot-spotting my AT&T service, but that didn't work out so well (turns out unlimited doesn't count with hotspotting). So, downgrade AT&T and onboarding FIOS.
Anyone used FIOS before?

Generally, I’ve seen it as a way for folks to “reset” their career paths, but it is no guarantee of anything. I have seen people doing office grunt work with an MBA, and people in high positions without one.
If it is in a specific area (finance, for instance) that may pay off better. But even then, I’d hesitate to advocate taking on any substantial debt to get one.
Also - as Patrick suggested, the school itself is a big differentiator.
Not sure as of yet, considering that I'm currently only considering it as one of many options.
Speaking as someone who knows what they're talking about, what would you recommend?
I don't think that such a recommendation CAN be made.
My MBA is in Finance its from 2005, so its worth little in the Finance field NOW because I've been a Tax Attorney for almost 13 years now. However, if I apply for a job that is looking for an applicant with an "MBA", the fact that I have it does help my resume at least get considered.
Accounting MBAs make solid money but as someone who has worked in Public Accounting most of my career, I can confirm that CH is correct, it's a boring job.
Finance MBAs can make millions or peanuts its the luck of the draw a lot of times. Where did you go to school? Did you have good rapport with a Professor who offers you a job? Was your GPA tops in the class?
Marketing/Advertising involves long hours and the pay can be iffy. My mother owned an advertising company, everything is last minute.
IT is a HOT market right now, especially cybersecurity. In the tri-state area offers for people with experience run between $100 and $300K. Not sure whether you would be better off with certifications, that is what my friend has and has no undergrad degree.
One more thing, if you have NO passion for something it is hard to excel so if the decision is money motivated you will need to find some way to drive yourself against peers that HAVE a passion for the field.
Just my quick thoughts.

I might not get a day off as something of a professional pet sitting. (I mean it's a job right?) But I do appreciate those that do so they can stay home with their pets! :)
In related note, walking two 110+ lb golden retrievers is fun and games until they see a cat.
My aunt had a pet sitting gig, bad part is that it seems to be 7 days a week.
Heh, yeah I've got Great Danes and choke collars make walking them much more enjoyable as they don't try chasing after dogs and other woodland creatures with impunity :-)

I liked FIOS and the service was reliable but in the demerit department they do charge for content that cable appears to give for free. TV shows especially. My wife just switched from FIOS back to Cable for that reason.

I have FIOS. The internet is fine. Wouldn’t recommend the TV package, though. All of my issues have been with that.

I don't do cable anymore. Streaming works fine for my needs.

So,... sent out the boy to mow the yard Saturday. It was past due.
Turns out, the LAST time he mowed the yard, (2 weeks ago) he forgot to put the lawnmower up. So it has been outside the last 2 weeks.
In the rain.
With the gas cap off.
<Facepalm>
To my surprise and his delight, I did not beat him like a pinata. I did subject him to yet another of those 'Dad' lectures about paying attention, and responsibility.
So yesterday I googled 'Fixing a lawnmower left out in the rain', and the video I found the guy was working on what looked like MY model of lawnmower! Talk about Karma!
And the disassembly was not nearly as hard as I would have figured it would be. And sure enough I found water in the carburetor bowl and on the plug. So I have my lawnmower on my back porch, parts layed out drying.
Today I will reassemble, refill with fresh fuel, (with a dash of Heet fuel antifreeze/dryer) and cross my fingers! :)
Yeah,... wish me luck :P

Been waiting 10 years at this (expletive deleted) job for the news that I finally got today.
I finally got a raise. Not a cost-of-living, an actual raise to an almost decent salary. (NOW it's where it should have been 10 years ago when I started, but better late than never!) ;P
Good thing I was sitting down when my boss told me. Cuz I might have fallen over, I was really that surprised!
Merry Christmas to meeeee!!!!!! :)

Can I borrow some money, Mr. Money Bags?

Congrats, Ragadolf.
Optimist that I am, I would expect that any degree you pursue, particularly if it's the current hot one, will be nigh worthless by the time you get it. :-)
I'm eagerly awaiting fios in my area. Not here yet, and no idea when it'll come. But the other side of things is that I'm seriously looking at getting rid of TV service altogether and going to streaming only. Time Warner is as bad as Cox for charging big bucks. Two years ago I called and b*&@&ed because my bill for internet, TV, and phone was $210 a month. I canceled the phone altogether, which took about 50 bucks off. Now it's up to $234 a month! If my dvr wasn't full of stuff I want to watch, I'd take it back today. :-(

The wife is in the NO area right now for family troubles. Next time I am down there, I will make sure that you know about it.
Sorry for the family troubles, but yeah, I'm still within 2 hours of the Big Sleazy. Next time you head this way let me know I might be able to arrange a tour of places I have never been before. ;P
:D
