Well this is depressing...

After all the years the Ninja and Samurai have gained... 0 new features and only 1 archetypw (Sword Saint Samurai) that is not very good...

Heck, the Anti Paladin has a 4 archetypes...

Where is the love for the ninja and samurai? Havw they just been thrown away by Paizo?

Especially the Ninja... I mean, they could done a lot with the guy in archetypes to effectively treat him as a "un chained rogue" before PF unchained... the Ninja was Awesome before...

So why u no love azians paizo???

Grand Lodge

More mount replacement archetypes for the Samurai would be nice.

Are there some Cavalier archetypes that work with the Samurai?

They're probably being saved for the next round of Tien Xia related material.

Any idea when that will ever be?

Absolutely none. Paizo does not give that information out until it's pretty close to release date. Your best clue on what's coming up is when they do their annual product catalog. Then you'll see what's coming out for the year.

If you can't wait... check the third party lists, there should be something there.

The Thunderscape campaign setting has three samurai orders.

To be fair, the Ninja is close enough to the Rogue that they share legal archetypes. So at least a portion of the rogue-friendly content gets lovingly wrapped back up and mailed to Ninjas in near mint condition.

Then again, when you can play Unchained Rogue, it becomes harder to make a solid case for the Ninja outside of that tasty eastern flavor.

Hmmm...
- The Antipaladin has 1 archetype and access to the Variant Channeling feature. It does have 4 3rd-party archetpes though.

- The Samurai has 1 archetype from Paizo and 6 from 3rd-parties. Then again... it may be possible to use a cavalier archetype for the samurai.

- The Ninja has a big fat ZERO archetype from Paizo and only one from a 3rd-party, but only for Kitsunes. I don't know if you could use a rogue archetype though.

I'm actually surprised that the Ninja didn't get any archetype... at all (from Paizo I mean). Yeah, yeah, it's a reskinned rogue, but still, with all the variant ninja legends and myths, it's pretty clear that they have a lot of materials for it.

they got 5 archetype thwm anti paladins

Cavalier has no Samurai-compatible archetypes.

Instead of thinking of alternate classes as actually different classes (except for Antipaladin), think of them as really in-depth archetypes.

I'm surprised Stonelord isn't an alternate class.

That may have been a case of they didnt make archetypes for the Alternate classes.

Samurai do have 1 archetype, and APs have 5. The poor ninja got a shaft of 0 anything. The funny thing is, the Ninja was a unchained rogue before unchained. The Ninja is a solid class with lots of flavor and very capable abilities. Hell, the Ninja can very much hold its own with other martials. The ability to grab any ninja trick on the fly is also amazing. And if your an ifrit it is awesome (eversmoke bottle is your best friend). Heck, they didnt need to unchain the rogue... they just needed to make a reflavored ninja... so the "i dont like asian things" people can buy into it...

That sword saint is an awesome archtype though..

At high levels.. sadly the Iajitsu Stike is... reqlly weak at first...

You spend 2 turns to effectively do a sneak attack... if it worked with Vital Strike then that would be something...

I was disappointed that there wasn't a Samurai inspired archetype for the Swashbuckler to create an Iaijutsu duelist. I know the Sword Saint is kind of suppose to represent that, but it didn't create the same feel for me. Also, the Sword Saint, while cool, does kind of stink. While it is technically possible to have a Swashbuckler use a Katana, it isn't really a good option and requires a lot of investment.

Edit: I just remembered the Daring Champion, which was a cavalier with some Swashbuckler traits... I guess that is possible to jury rig an Iaijutsu duelist out of it, but I haven't taken too long of a look to figure it out.

While it isn't the Samurai or Ninja, they did add a couple of archetypes in Occult Adventures that are Japanese inspired; The Onmyouji and the Kami Whisperer(?). They are ok.

Sovereign Court

Onmyoji (Spiritualist archetype) is actually excellent, adding Cleric spells to its spells known while its Phantom is in its mind and giving a bonus against all spells/SLAs cast by undead or outsiders.

Aren't both the Samurai and Ninja "ambiguous classes" or something? Even Paizo themselves seem to not know what to do with them. How many books have been released since Ultimate Combat? How many times have they been excluded from the archetype sections? Ok, fine, the Antipaladin isn't faring any better, but Champions of Corruption gave it more stuff.

Advanced Class Guide didn't have them, and so haven't Occult Adventures or Mythic Adventures. Ultimate Combat was released in 2011, but Paizo started released Tian Xia stuff in 2012, with the Dragon Empires Gazetteer. Yeah, we get 5 new races, but zero samurai or ninja archetypes... in a book about the Eastern Asia-like part of Golarion.

You could argue that new cavalier orders can work for the samurai, just like new rogue talents can work for the ninja (it can select a talent instead of a trick via a... trick), but still...

I was actually expecting a ninja trick about using a Kinetic Blast and Wild Talents, using Ki points instead of Burn points for the ninja... if anime and manga didn't teach us anything about that.

Have patience, when Paizo releases the next AP that takes you (or starts) in Tian Xia then you are going to get more ninja and maybe samurai stuff.

Silver Crusade

I would second a motion to comb through 3rd party material and check them out. Or, make your own! The tools are certainly there.

Grand Lodge

The sword Saint needs errata as well as it does not work as written atm... And it still hasn't been done much to my disappointment

The Exchange

I have been trying to do a New class or a Magus arch type call shinobi. Bring in that second edition skills and power type ninja to the table. We need a class that is int and wis based for all ability. A little ki, a little arcane pool sword skill, and some unarmed combat that doesn't suck at high levels. I have a post with my early creation still needs some work. But I am in the same boat, I do like some of the shadow dancer abilities for a ninja.

Hohoho it seems the rogue was able to escape artist out of these chains faster than the ninja.

HOW'S THAT SWIFT ACTION INVISIBILITY NOW!

*strokes dex to damage and debilitating injury*

I'd personally love a Ki baised Samurai rather than seeing Panache cramed into it, for contrast
