Playstyle / Character concepts for the Sensate (OA)

Pathfinder First Edition General Discussion

I've been looking at the Sensate Archtype from OA and something about it just appeals to me. It doesn't look particularly powerful, like most fighter archtypes, but something just seems cool.

So I've been trying to come up with interesting character concepts for it.

First thoughts were Daredevil and Spiderman, for the enhanced senses and spider sense but it doesn't really work since he doesnt get Blindsight till level 20. (I think it should be much lower to be honest).

Since it has a kind of martial artist feel , with the Centering Senses thing, I then thought of doing the wandering martial artist type. Pick a style that works with and without weapons.

Anyone got any ideas?

To me the sensate kind of looks and feels like a poor man's Jedi. Maybe a build that used Psychic Sensativity and Psychic Adept to pick up a knack or two along with their weapon?

I'm glad someone else likes this archetype too, I think it's awesome.

Just a thought, but would it work with a duelist sort of build? I can see a Sensate wielding an Aldori duelling sword in my head.. Or maybe a scimitar..

I do love having 3 noteworthy saves in the morning. :P

I'd say the flavour really is wide enough that you can play in pretty much any dedicated-fighter style concepts.

I really like the look of it as well... though certain parts seem a little bad.

Hmm Psy Sense and Adept. Didn't think of that. Third Eye seems like it would fit the feel as well.

One, very, vague idea I had was as a kind of Zaitoichi wandering swordsman. Only pretending to be blind though. The Aldori dueling sword seems like a good fit too.

I was thinking maybe taking one level of Brawler for martial flexibility and Brawlers Cunning too.

One idea that I have been tinkering with is a non hp based tank. Someone who is hard to take down due to have a high AC and saves.

Oh, I hadn't even thought of that feat. For a cllass that's focused on the senses that'd be a great thematic choice.

It's too bad Lore Warden can't be stacked along with this archetype.

how about a "fallen"(faithless) paladin?

Monks are better suited for this.

If you really want to push the 'sense everything' bit, and you have access to Unchained, take Signature Skill (Perception) as well.

Scarab Sages

I'd been wanting to make a nimble, lightly-armored, somewhat mystical Fighter based on the Staff Adept from the computer game Battle Realms, and I thought the Sensate would be ideal for it. Now if only I could get a Tiefling Boon for Pathfinder Society....

IMHO, using Light Armor and giving up the potential AC boost of Defender of Society makes me cry.

Well given you'll be pumping your Dex up as high as possible I don't think you'll miss that +1 too much.

Aside from the skill unlocks from Unchained, can anyone think of interesting things we can do with Perception?

More ideas to play up the "I notice everything" schtick.

Pump up Sense Motive to beat feints and distractions. Also to notice small body/voice cues when people lie to you.

Mifune the swordsman from Souleater would fit as a Sensate I think, with his deadly focus and lack of armour.

Could, sort of, duplicate his Addition Mode special attack with Circling Mongoose and Hammer the Gap.

Of course, you won't get him as he is in the anime as he's obviously exceedingly high level.

Scarab Sages

The read aura psychic skill unlock is appropriate.

Speaking of character concepts, I was thinking a kind of bodyguard type warrior. With the bonus to saves against most illusions , and Will saves once you hit 5th level, you'd be decent at picking up when something is suspicious. Especially if you took the feats that boost Sense Motive.

As flavour I was thinking specialising in quarterstaff. It's a weapon that looks non threatening but is still very effective.
