Vigilantes and Death

My friend and I were talking about the vigilante the other night. When a vigilante dies, which alignment does Pharasma use to determine where his soul goes? Which alignment is his "soul's" identity, so to speak?

I'd guess whichever one the player/vigilante feels is his actual alignment and beliefs. So probably the vigilante identity one if one's gonna bother going against the norm (social identity) to do what one believes in or whatever it is they actually want to do.

Evil villain and Neutral political advisor to the king? Should be judged as an evil in the end in Pharasma's Boneyard.

Which almost makes it sound like the vigilante should be judged based upon his vigilante identity rather than his social identity.

Yea I'd agree with that. Vigilante identity alignment would be the true ideology of the character and the social identity would be a REALLY ELABORATE ruse that can fool all but Pharasma and whatever deity they follow.

Actually, the funny thing is that the dual identity thing seems to fool dieties enough that no one can use commune to ask them what the vigilante's true identity is, lol.

Maybe the soul gets split in two and each goes to its own place.

This actually leads into something I've been wondering: is it possible to have a Vigilante identity that worships (and gains mechanical benefits from) a deity who's alignment is incompatible with the secret identity? Because I would love to use an NPC who seems to be a (neutral) good man, but under the right circumstances he prowls the night doing the (un)holy work of Father Skinsaw.

Like a cleric’s deity, a zealot vigilante’s deity

inf luences his alignment, what magic he can perform, and
his values. Although not as tied to the tenets of the deity as
a cleric, a zealot vigilante must still hold such guidelines
in high regard, despite that fact he can go against them if
it serves his crusade and goals. A zealot vigilante who takes
this talent selects one domain from among those belonging
to his deity. He can select an alignment domain only if his
alignment matches that domain.

The zealot can worship a deity incompatible with Both their identities.

Whichever alignment the Vigilante identifies with.
So just decide which is the "real" alignment and whether the social identity or the vigilante identity is the "mask"

Trick question. Norgorber has hidden the alignments of Vigilantes from all, even the gods, and it is to Norgorber that the souls of all Vigilantes are promised.

I think that would be a good idea for an archetype, but maybe not something baked into the default vigilante chassis.
