More Specialisations?

Ultimate Intrigue Playtest General Discussion

Now please, here me out before people bite my head off about how we need to get the ones we have working properly before even thinking about adding more. and I completely agree. but one thing occurred to me about this class and I've noticed a few others bringing it up as well, and its about the class being suboptimal in a standard game.

this I agree with, so far I love the class but being honest. I don't see it standing next to a fighter, a cleric, a wizard and a rouge going dungeon raiding. I see him/her more trying to take out the gritty underbelly of a corrupt city. and then I was thinking what classes would best pair up with this class. and to be honest. I can't come up with a better group that 4 vigilantes each picking a different specialisation, both for gameplay reason and story reason.

so I got thinking. It would be really cool to see other specialisations. so far the ones we seem tend to be hybrids of other classes. we have the avenger the fighter, the stalker the rogue, the warlock the wizard and the zealot the cleric.

but I just figured, for the sake of diversity I think it'd be cool to see maybe a couple of alchemist builds, one mutagen focused, the other gadget focused. or maybe even some kind of elemental bloodline builds.

also, I was wondering. do we know if there will be any campaign's soon that would complement this class type.

and yeah, I know I'm getting way too carried away but I can't help it, its a new toy haha.

I don't know, the Warlock can take bombs and stuff so what alchemist feature would that be?

Now so far, no sound based (Bard) specialization like the hero Black Canary, Raging like specialization (Barbarian/blood rager types) like Bane, etc.

Call the Raging one Brute specialization.
He gets a unchained version of Rage-like move called Fury: +1 hit/dam, AC, reflex lasts 1 rd per point like rage (bonus is lower but no lower AC). Talents would improve this by 1, add an extra attack (like Wild Rager), add uncanny dodge, etc.

the warlock gets bomb? okay my bad haha, must of missed that. but yeah, I guess my point about this class really is that it doesn't feel like a class as much as it feels like a framework to build a bunch of other more situational classes for a more unconventional superhero themed campaign. which I personally think is awesome. its kinda like a game within a game haha.

Less specialisation, more options!
Just let everyone "pick 'n' mix" their Talents.

I can think of there being 7 total Specializations that'd work well

It wouldn't be bad to have one Specialization per Stat, though, including one that isn't tied specifically to one stat:

Avenger - Str
(Sponge) - Con
(Sniper) - Dex
Warlock - Int
(Healer) - Wis
Zealot - Cha
Stalker - No specific Stat (Jack-of-All-Trades)

We need a Bard-style Vigilante specialization, so my wife can play Jem/Jerrica Benton. Even though that leaves me playing f&@#$*! Rio...

Eh, I would like a "occult" vigilante, but otherwise kind of think there are too many specializations. I think Avenger and Stalker would work better as one specialization, and Zealot just doesn't seem interesting enough right now to exist separately from Warlock.

1 person marked this as a favorite.

I would like to see a mastermind vigilante. Good at making plans (using Case the Joint-like mechanics), buffing minions, Teamwork feat maximizing, capable of finding and exploiting the weaknesses of opponents, and always having an escape route.

The more of these ideas come out, the more it seems like the Vigilante should be a general theme rather than a Class.

Like how there's not a singular "Mythic" or "Legend" Class - there's a whole classification of "Mythic Heroes" instead.

---

I kinda think it might work out better if the Vigilante was a single-class chassis that focused on hiding itself, spying, etc., while acting like a universal VMC machine - it chooses any one other class as its Alternate Persona, and gains muted abilities of that other class at certain levels.

The initial 4 is fine. I just hope they create more specializations down the line.

A psychic, bard, and nature themed paths/specializations would be cool. Maybe alchemist because bombs and Hyde juice would be awesome.

Idk, bard doesn't really seem to fit with the vigilante's vibe...

Yeah, I can see a vigilante with a musician social persona, but I don't really see someone singing the criminals to justice.

Well, maybe the Crow. :-P

Black Canary and Dazzler (A mutant with the ability to convert sound vibrations into light and energy beams: By conscious control over the light she produces, she can control its direction, frequency (color), amplitude (intensity), and duration.) to name a few

*Dazzler can produce numerous effects. She can create simple patterns out of rays of light or combinations of patterns which produce trance-like effects in her targets. She can create a pulse of light on the order of several thousand watts of power, which temporarily blinds people with its brilliance. She can create a chaotic cascade of sparkling lights and colors that severely upsets other people's equilibrium, or a pulsating strobe-light effect. Dazzler can generate a coherent beam of light, approximating a laser beam. Dazzler can generate a shield from laser energy that can deflect projectiles or energy beams. With effort, she can create holograms of human beings and other three-dimensional beings and objects. She can also use light energy to generate flight.

Is everybody forgetting Banshee for cryin' out loud?

Dude was on the X-Men roster for YEARS

Sooooo.....just allow Mystic Bolt to do sonic damage? :-)

Grand Lodge

see when i comes to duplicating X-Men or other Super heroes it is often best to use a Combination of classes.. I would assume if you wanted to duplicate Banshee you would take the sound striker Bard Archetype
