Creating the most effective non-combat based character

((I truly hope this is the right board for build help threads. Was not sure about here, Advice, or Suggestions.))

In short, I want to make Rico Suave, The Most Interesting Man in the World, with a hint of Austin Powers, all wrapped up in our king Fabio.

Requirements

  • A pretty, humanoid race. I don't care how many ranks you have in charisma, goblins and kolbolds are not pretty boys. Prefer nothing with features that are off-putting to beings not of that race. EG: The pointed ears of an elf, fine; the slightly green tinted skin of a half orc, acceptable; the feathers and beak on a tengu, not so much.(Edit: No racebuilder, forgot it even existed)
  • No 3rd party or 3.5 converted abilities. Anything printed by Paizo for Pathfinder from the splat books, core rulebook, to a trait found in an AP is fair game.
  • Abilities need to be focused on communicating with others; cha, int, wis, bluff, diplomacy, knowledge, languages, anything that makes him be able to smooth talk his way in and out of anything and everything is what I want.
  • Steals the show. Let the meat shields, backstabbers, spell chuckers, holy nutters, and skill monkeys deal with combat. When it comes to being the party face, that is his forte.

Let it be known, combat is beyond secondary for him. If he stands in the back and smiles like Chip Skylark holding a crossbow the whole fight, that is fine by me. That being said, if you can fit showy swordsmanship to woo the ladies into his arsenal of tricks, please do. I was thinking the most effective way was to go bard, but feel free to show me otherwise. This character will be in two campaigns; one is a level 20 dungeon crawl where the party "has all of the bases covered, make whatever you want". The other is being brought into the Mummy's Mask AP. That party will be loosing a tanky character in the form of a Huntmaster Cavilier.

With that, feel free to...

  • post any builds you have (no matter how complete)
  • link threads to similar topics
  • tell me a feat/skill/trait/random tidbit I should know
  • explain why I am a bad person for going into a dungeon crawl with the intend for trolling my friends
  • something gimicky that would be fun
  • a personality trait/flaw that could enhance the fun of this amazing man
  • not spoil the AP for I have not read anything and know nothing beyond the first tomb you complete.

I'd use the Advanced Race Guide's, race builder, and make a Satyr into a PC race. I think Swashbuckler would be good class for him. Yeah, the class is combat oriented, but it has adventurous and handsome written all over it!

Fun idea btw! :)

EDIT: Once Occult Adventure is released, the Mesmerist would work awesome!

I like the Empiricist Investigator archetype for this, coupled with the Student of Philosophy trait. So many things now run off Intelligence that you barely need Charisma (and can dump it), and boosting Int gives you even more skill points. Underworld Inspiration and Expanded Inspiration give you free inspiration on loads of skills, and you can up it with Amazing Inspiration. Edetic Recollection makes you a flawless knowledge-monkey.

This guy doesn't even need to suck at combat. Mutagens can boost physical stats, Alchemy can give you loads of natural attacks and other boosts. Strength or Dex builds are both viable.

Half Elf Arcanist. Don't trade out the free Skill Focus. Instead take Skill Focus (Linguistics), max out ranks in Linguistics, take the Orator feat to use Linguistics for the main uses of Diplomacy, Bluff and Intimidate.

You are now a primary Int based sellcaster who can operate as an extremely effective face and who has most of their large pool of skill points available to spend wherever the hell you want.

You are also a full Int based spellcaster who can change their spell selection every day. Delving into a tomb full of undead, grab Command Undead, attending a Dukes party, Charm Person etc.

You could do it as Human from level 1 as well but you then lose out on accessing paragon surge later on.

I have been shown otherwise, the Investigator with that archetype seems silly as a combo. Right now, bard does not seem the way to go. Please keep the ideas coming. I would love to get enough input to be able to be able to make a guy to non-combat focused PCs in Pathfinder.

Arshea (Spirit of Abandon):

Human slayer(Vanguard) 6 / Noble Scion 10 + VMC(Bard) this is a guy I've been polishing off for a while unchained absolutely made this guy a star. Basically the idea behind this guy is he's an immortal noble that always exists in some form. After level 7 but before level 15/16 his greater leadership cohort is an exact copy of him but just a "younger" version of him. After 15/16 there is an unlimited number of him all of which are the same level. My picture of him is a suave youngish noble that grows into a great singer/orator that focuses on cha skills, his cohort is "backup" singer and the servitors are groupies.

Slayer is chosen for its high base skills and the overall "best" class to sacrifice into noble scion.

Human for silver tongue, bonus feat/focused study, and if you want an extra talent you can go 6 levels and delay NS but that just depends one if a talent is worth it.

Kitsune arcanist, with the blood arcanist archetype for the fey bloodline. Kitsune always seem to be good looking in the art, which matches one of your criteria, and this character can be the master of charming people; you miss out on the sorcerer favored class benefit but gain the arcane reservoir which should keep you equal or ahead on save DCs from levels 1-11.

BTW this sort of subject more commonly goes in the Advice forum.

...Oh, I have a bard build for this. It's a human bard (geisha) who took the Triple-Skill-Focus instead of the normal feat slot.

And then I put the perform bonus from the class's bardic knowledge replacement into perform (sing) for maximum bluff/sense motive while also putting points into diplomacy which they also get the bonus to.

As a bard you're still a force multiplier for your party, and you gain the ability to make a darn fine cup of tea.

That sounds a lot like my PFS bard. He has a +20 diplomacy and +12 bluff/sense motive at level 4. It is PFS so he does have some use in combat (buffing/SoL caster) but this kind of character can do well in both home games and organized play.

Why do you think so? And what do you think is silly about it?

Either way, the investigator i a really cool class that can be modelled in a lot of directions.
By just taking the infusions talent you can contribute to combat through the backdoor.. by handing out buffs to your party.

And you shine at skills without half trying. Add half-elf for their favored class bonus and it gets even stronger.

@Cevah - Please, tell me more about this and where I can find it!

@onyxlion - That is an interesting twist on the idea. I like how it sounds. Hmmm.

@avr - Kitsune is a strong option. The bloodline build I did not think of. As for the subforum, noted.

@Just a Guess - It just seemed silly. I like things that stack, I did not mean anything negative about it. Currently it is the option I am going to stick with for the Mummy's Mask AP, but that can easily changed.

@Everyone - Thank you! I really want to be able to compile a bunch of options and make a guide once this is over. So many things I never would have thought of or found.

Huh? Why?

Don't get me wrong, Bard's great for this, but Empiricist is also great for it and I'm curious about your casual dismissal of it.

I am not dismissing it at all. As I said in my previous post, that is the current build I am going with. That ability comboing is silly and I liked it. Silly does not mean bad.

It's not only negative it is insulting*. That's why I asked you to explain why you are so rude. But instead of doing that you just repeat it.

*It implies that everyone who likes it is silly.

You're reading too much into it. He didn't like it. That's his preferences. It just means you like different things.

I would say rogue although it would be an unpopular opinion among a lot of people. Here's why.

Archetypes:
Burglar: Pretty good for avoiding combat, preventing combat and a pretty good excuse to let everyone else do the combat.
Charlatan: Enough for a dip, Rumormonger is pretty effective in messing up NPCs.
Scroll Scoundrel: Another dip. Fast Talker is good if you remember the diplomacy rules which I will explain below as is bluffing.

Talents:
Black market Connections: GM doesn't want to let you use Magic Items R Us stores? This goes by it.
Charmer: Roll twice and take the best? A lot of people say its useless but...check out the rules for adjusting starting attitudes and pull it out of your ass each time you meet an important NPC the first time to make all your subsequent checks easier.
Obfuscate Story: The talent after it is called Steal the Story. Seriously do you need anymore convincing?

Unchained (oh boy we got unchained rogue now!):
Certainty: Refer to Charmer above.
Coax Information: Its so much more better now because their attitude doesn't drop. No repercussions!

Skill Unlocks (since unchained rogues get them for free):
Bluff: For the compulsive liar up to level 14. For the seasoned politician at level 15.
Climb: After level 10 its so much easier to avoid combat.
Diplomacy: Certainly one of the most broken ones.
Disguise: 10 ranks is the one you want since those penalties are cumulative.
Intimidate: Even if you aren't fighting, you can still contribute easy.
