Special Chronicle Sheets

GM Discussion

3/5

So, I've been working with Society including GMing for about a year now and I've seen numerous references to the Special Chronicle Sheets, specifically the ones related to additional races, and this has been something I've wanted to see since I heard about it. But I haven't come across any yet and I can't seem to find when, where, or how to come across any. I have heard they are given out at conventions but under what conditions is my question.

1. Are there specific scenarios that are only available to be played at Conventions that give these away? The few conventions I've looked at only offered regular scenarios from the general seasons.

2. Are these sheets/scenarios only available at the "Big Three" conventions or would you be able to find them at the smaller local cons?

3. I've seen mention of GM Boons, are these sheets only available to GMs, specifically for running at cons?

My friends and I have been interested in seeing (and gaining) some of these sheets. Any advice would be welcome.

(also of note, no this is not the reason I GM, I've always enjoyed running the game, I just would like to see some of the more special rewards that our general group doesn't see much)

Thanks,

1. Yes. generally conventions of a minimum size of 15 tables or more. There are also the occasional ultra rare race boons that are ONLY made available through charity auction at the Big Three conventions. Typical purchase price winds up in the four digit range for things such as the dhampir, android, and goblin boons.

2. See above.

3. Yes.

The special rewards are minor things usually a minor bonus, a race unlock, or a one time effect that you can evoke. They're not something worth going major effort over. I've lost track of the ones I've gotten and never used.

I bet I get ninja'd before I finish.
1) The scenarios listed as specials are typically reserved for conventions (at least for a little while).
2)the boons are available at conventions of various sizes, I believe the important factor has to do with being officially supported by Paizo.
3)GM Boons are different than player boons, and typically pretty cool. Often they are race boons; recently I got an Ifrit as a playable race.
The advice would seem obvious: if you want boons of this type play and GM at conventions that supply them.

Also there are/were boons available for pathfinder fiction books, and occasionally there has been a holiday boon available on Paizo's website. I'm not certain if or when we'll see another holiday boon though.

It varies somewhat by convention, but in general

1) every GM at a convention gets a boon
2) boons are available to players in a lottery method. No guarantees but if you play enough tables chances of getting at least 1 boon are good
3) conventions play the same scenarios as everybody else. Gencon and Paizocon are exceptions in that some of the scenarios will be exclusives
4) the exact boons available depends on the convention and when it is run
5) boons are tradeable so sometimes you can get the boon you want that way even if you've get a boon you don't really want

If you purchase any of the Pathfinder Tales novels, each one has a PFS legal special chronicle sheet with nice boons & items which is a free download on each individual novel's description page. Just be sure to have the novel on hand when using any of it's boons and/or items.

Scot, if you have been involved and GMing in PFS for over a year, where are your GM stars? You get those nifty stars for GMing a certain amount of tables, but those have to be reported.

There is also a GM star boon, that unlocks more goodies the more stars you have!

Woran,

I am about to get my first star soon, unfortunately I don't get to play or run as often as I like (work, wife, wife's business, etc.). I know about the star sheets, that's a pretty cool thing. I was mainly asking about these special sheets I keep hearing about but not ever seeing or being able to get details on. Now, I haven't actually played or run at a con, so that would be the reason why I haven't come across any. I am looking to run or play at a local con or two this year.

In addition to normal society events I run two home games (APs so there is credit there) but these are much slower so they take a while to get the credit.

And to everyone here, thankf for the advice and knowledge.

Ah, good to know. I was afraid you had run games at game days and thing had gone wrong with reporting. Would have been a shame.
And yes, real life comes first, even if our fantasy one is sometimes a lot nicer ;)

IIRC you have to show the book when the GM signs the chronicle sheet, you don't have to bring it after that.
