The shinmaj shinmaj clones are nearly 1000 strong if their numbering system is correct. They must be Flagged with extreme prejudice (the smashy kind, not the being mean to people kind)

By the way, there's an assumption that because they're using Korean characters (they actually sprinkle some Japanese characters) that the domain user is Korean.
That's not necessarily true. Here's the WHOIS on the spammer domain, it looks like it's hidden behind a domain privacy service.
^That's assuming that the spammers haven't spoofed the domain too . . .
Appreciate the help. Mice aren't designed for this.
Phones are even worse for this.
I flag em when I see em on the sidebar, but I haven't ever gone looking for them.
Heck, obviously we don't have to go LOOKING for them! ;P

Hide the ones you flag, totally removes the noise so you can home in on your targets
I love it when I flag a spam post with in seconds of it going up...it feels like 'A-Ha I got you.'

Hey Liz - can you tell me if I'm only seeing posts I've Flagged as Flagged?
Also, the posts I'm flagging seem to still be there - are they being removed, albeit slowly?
Those big purple arrow things are annoying. But makes the posts as easy to see as an orange jumpsuit clad ninja...
When I read on other forums for games/video game related sites, I don't usually see this kind of spam. Maybe they have filters that paizo doesn't?
We've discussed having volunteer moderators in the past, and there are a lot of reasons why we won't do it (one of them being the reasons you pointed out).I suspect there are people who would do it for free if it didn't involve too onerous a time commitment.
I'd be inclined to suggest crowdsourcing. Identify a core group of volunteer spamcops, and when four or more of them jump on a post, it's automatically removed.
This also addresses the "who watches the watchman" issue; if someone decides to go on a vendetta against a real poster and start flagging everything they write, that won't actually have an effect unless there are three other co-vendettae.
Would you be able to share any of the other reasons?
Really I'm just curious, but it does seem like this would be a good place to harness community goodwill - I'm thinking those of us on the other side of the world would be especially useful in cleaning things up during (your) night time or on weekends. I know less than nothing about computers but could imagine there might be security problems with giving non-employees superpowers, but even if it wasnt the use of the banhammer, it might be useful for you if some designated community members were able to access a "global hide" button which hid the thread from everyone else, including google. A kind of halfway house, to be reviewed and probably purged when you guys got to work.
Sigh...now maybe I can read the boards.

We're throwing ourselves into the front lines as well but these guys are relentless!
Uhmmm, SOMETHING needs to be done. Spam posts account for more of the current posts on the front page of the site than anything else...and it's been this way for most of the day here in Oz...

This morning's wave is crushed. I have some thoughts about a more aggressive solution to this problem, and will bring it to one of our internal moots to see if it can be done sooner than later. I really don't like that our community is having to deal with this, but appreciate your patience and help in isolating these accounts.

Yeah. I did about fifty threads/posts this morning before the phone rang and I had to start doing real work.
I fear for the weekend. You know that as soon as the Paizo staffers go home on Friday, there will be a tsunami.

Question for moderators.
With most of the spam being two posts, should we "flag" both of them? or will flagging just one get rid of both? ie. do you go to the userid screen and kill everything, or just the one flagged?
