Hey all, I had a request for a character who has a giant T-Rex for a pet from one of my friends who loves the mental image. He's always wanted to play a character with a chompy pet like that following him around.
My question is... what is the best way to go about it? My initial thought was druid, because that's easy, but after digging around a bit it looks like Hunter might be good too, with Primal Companion? Any suggestions? I know it gets large sized at level 7, but is there a way to get it bigger by level 10? Looking at it, buffing strength to the max, taking improved natural attack and power attack as feats, and then buffing it with some druid buff spells seems to be the main gist, though I'm sure I'm missing something.
All paizo hardbacks allowed, any paizo race, 20 point buy, other material allowed on a per item review basis. Thanks for any help!
(also, is there a way to get intimidating prowess on your T rex? Then it really could be the scariest critter!)

So at the moment hunter is probably the best way to do a purely animal companion focused creature. Any nice spell the druid gets they could get as well, just at a later level (7th level spells and up are more personal power than powering up the animal).
I know it's not a hardback (and doesn't technically allow it) but look at Mammoth Rider. It's all about giving yourself a giant (well, Huge), rampaging mount.

Here's a truly vicious T-Rex animal companion. This is at 8th level. Inflicts about 100 HP, plus prone and grabbed condition, to anything foolish enough to draw an AoO. Can do this several times per round. Also gets to attack on its turn, but that's a minority of damage output. This combination makes for a beastly 'tank'.

Greater trip wont work, no ac has int of 13+

In that posted build, the Hunter has greater trip, not the animal companion. He uses greater trip provoking his own AOO, than the animal gets one due to paired opportunists. (it states this in the writeup)

It's probably the PC part of the tag team who has Greater Trip.

You could theoretically have an animal companion with an int of 13+. Not a great idea, but possible. Not very hard with the monstrous mount feat either.

No disagreement w/r/t the trip/grapple strategies.
A couple of things to think about - with share spells, you can enlarge person your Tyrannosaur - more importantly for hunter, when you pick up the improved share spells with your first teamwork feat (which you do) and your companion gets it automatically, you can now split your castings of long duration buffs, longstrider, barkskin, etc.
Tyrannosaur is one of the only builds/creatures where vital strike can actually be quite good (also hippos).
At 10th level, with INA (Bite), Animal Growth, Strongjaw, Bull's str (or equivalent) - you're looking at a size huge Tyrannosaurus with 38str and a base bite damage of 8d6 so vital strike adds +28 damage on single attack. Standard attack looks like +18/16d6+36 w/o flanking etc, and full attack is +18/+13 (8d6+36).
