sooo ... first 12 hours of global chat and we already have recruitment spam and arguments and people ranting about personal grievances and other cr@p you basically have to ignore but cannot cos it gets mirrored in local chat as well :D
All we need is some gold doubling spammers and people trying to pass off T1 armor as T2 and a few real world politics/religious arguments and it will be just like Jita - reminds me of home.

World Chat was implemented within the sphere of recruitment, there just needs to be some etiquette established there.
One recruitment post per 10-15 mins, waiting at least 10 seconds so you don't move someone elses post is MMO standard recruitment.
The true issue and tragedy here is that they deleted Hex chat instead of Local, for World.

The problem is I don't know about anyone else, but I don't know what is or is not considered unacceptable spam in this game. Not that I'm recruiting for anybody, but I'd certainly like to know the rules.
To be honest when I was on there was more spam generated after the various recruit posts for different sides by people from the opposite side trying to run them down.

I hear you Cheatle, it's a good idea. I'm just not sure if we could social-forge something properly when there is a fix so soon in the queue. Also, it opens up a lot of very valid "word warfare" opportunities for all parties involved.
I think copying Kadere's ignoring it all is the best solution (and certainly the best non-warfare tactic).

If we genreally agree on the basic rules, was can always implement a policy where someone spamming general will be flooded with whispers telling them 'please don't spam general chat'. (but that won't work if you are the only one complaining)

| 3 people marked this as a favorite. |
This is why I said established etiquette.
Established by whom?
The largest settlements can afford to wait 10 - 15 minutes, the smaller, not so much.
If they were going to add chat channel types, I would have liked to see Settlement Chat in. However, Settlement chat that has some modification from the typical.
Settlement Chat would be to all citizens, the settlement hex proper, and hexes under settlement control.

Give us Hex in place of Local in EE7 please.
Everything you type in the Chat tab goes to local, having a Local tab that broadcasts and displays the exact same channels is completely redundant and Hex was actually useful.
I am trying to run escalation groups out of Marchmont for new characters, the entire world doesn't need to know that but I want to tell more than are standing at the bank.
And what about holding a conversation AND checking the market at the same time?
Etc. etc. etc.

I am going to use as trade chat

I thought Goblin Works was "crowdforging" this game. Did a lot of people ask for hex chat to be removed?
We asked for global to return since the population is still so low most hexes are ghost towns. I don't know how they decided to eliminate Hex - other than it was the only useful chat channel.

I specifically defined all the reasons why using Hex over Local was an immensely terrible idea, and their response was that 10 people on the GW forums didn't constitute as crowdforging, and they wanted to see what the greater population wanted.
Fair enough.
Sometime though, you can just look at something and tell it is a terrible idea. At this point we are likely to get Settlement Chat in iteration 6 and it won't matter.

That is not accurate.
In response to why we converted Hex, not Local, I said:
Hex chat is dangerous. Hex chat is not secure. You should not be using Hex chat for much of anything. We envisioned it as a way for people who were not in the same social context (i.e. not using the same out-of-game communications) to arrange business deals. But it is apparently being used by folks who don't understand why they shouldn't to discuss things like what they are carrying and how they are coordinating their activities for defense.

You replied with reasons you disagreed with that logic. I replied to you as follows:
@Cheatle - in the short term doesn't having one general chat aid recruiting? Let's say we keep Hex chat as designed. Right now the only way to use that for recruiting is to go to Marchmont. There, it will only work in the Marchmont hex proper, not any of the surrounding Hexes. Any new players who hightail it out of Marchmont for say, Thornkeep, won't hear any recruiting messages broadcast in Hex chant in Marchmont.
If we assume that most players who are not members of Settlements will sit in General chat, your recruiting messages will be seen by all the non-aligned players in the game all at once. People with actual questions will ask them in Help. People who are in a party can communicate on the party channel. Groups in several parties who are working together can use Local.
Hex seems like the odd-channel-out in that configuration.
Then we add a Settlement chat, so everyone who wants to communicate via the in-game system in the same Settlement has a place to hang out and socialize. Shortly thereafter we add a Company chat for even more specific socializing.
General will eventually become useless. No doubt. But between now and the time it becomes useless, isn't it better to have global than hex?
