Paladin is very suitable for Cap's mentality, but the Cha reliance makes it too M.A.D. to pull off without extremely generous stat distribution. Strait Brawler keeps improving what he does best. Plus Smite is Class Level dependant....
If the urge to dip is strong, a bit of Gunslinger for a decent sidearm. Four levels of Cavalier and the right Order might help; sharing teamwork feats for cooperation and a mount to serve as the fantasy counterpart to his motorcycle.

I'd just keep going brawler. Just make sure to prepare in advance all of the potential feat combinations for any situation. (Captain America was a boy-scout after all - he should always come prepared. :P) Greater Blindfight vs wizards with mirror-image/displacement, Moonlight Stalker for when in concealment etc.

If I ever play a core mode PFS game, I plan on giving it a go. Ranger 2/Monk 1/Cleric 1/Barbarian 8. Ranger 2 for access to TWF, needed for Shield Slam. Monk for unarmed damage and deflect arrows. Cleric for the Magic Domain to throw the shield with no access to throwing shields. Barbarian for the STR bonus to represent the Super Soldier serum. I don't like being non-lawful for the concept, but I figure Neutral Good is still close enough to cap.

My Captain America build barely starts until level 6, since Shield Slam requires a BAB of +6. I like the combination of Shield Slam, Greater Bull Rush, and Paired Opportunist acquired via 1 level in Cavalier or 3 in Inquisitor.
With the Bashing Enchantment, a Heavy, Spiked Shield does 2d6.
With Shield Slam, every Bash triggers a free Bull Rush.
With Greater Bull Rush, every Bull Rush gives all your allies an Attack of Opportunity for him moving out of a Threatened Square.
With Paired Opportunist, you get an Attack of Opportunity because your allies do.
With the right battlefield positioning, say with a Flanking buddy, the AoO's can loop. You see, your Attack of Opportunity can be another Shield Bash, followed by another Bull Rush, followed by another round of AoO's.

I did not realize either the Weapon and Shield Ranger Combat Style Class Ability included Shield Slam nor that the Ranger did not need to make the prerequisites.
The first Shield Bashing Build I made built from Thunder and Fang, and I used the Ranger Combat Style Feat to get 2 weapon. I didn't consider using it for Shield Slam instead.
That is very interesting. Thank you very much.
