To be a hero

Recruitment

Silver Crusade

Hey all, I am looking to check interest on a homebrew idea.

Rundown- you are all from a small town, you will start out with 1 NPC class but very quickly advance into your normal class depending on your town 'role' you chose. Every role has several different options, but similar equipment. (Most of your starting equipment will be given by me, with flavor input by you) you won't know what class options you are getting until told, once selected a role may not be selected twice however, if you wish to contest a role, you may. Your backstory and how you got where you are however, are completely up to you.

Guard captain
Militiaman
Woodsmen
Lumberman
Physician/herbalist
Town drunk
Travelling merc
Local priest/preistess
Blacksmith
Farmer
Beggar
Mayor
Town eccentric
Wanderer
Tavern bouncer
Waitress

Each role will recieve a free trait given by me. (Some homebrew) and a feat (you still gain a feat upon entering your PC class).

I just want role selections and concepts from interested parties for now.

Dark Archive

I'm interested in the local priest role, but I have a few questions...

Firstly: Are the traditional Pathfinder deities applied in this?
Secondly: Is Golarion the setting?
Thirdly: Would the priest's NPC class be an adept?

Otherwise, dotting for interest!

I've been wanting to try an online game for a while and this sounds like a lot of fun.

I choose the Beggar.

Eral has lived in this town his whole life. He remembers watching most of it's people grow up, and fondly regards them as his family. He never had a wife or children, he devoted his life to building his home. They used to regard him as one of the town's finest carpenters until the accident robbed him of his will/ability to work. Now the old man just sits and waits for his end, giving what advice he can and surviving through the charity of those whose homes he helped build.

1. Yes

2. Not sure just yet
3. Yes. Or an expert depending

This might sound weird but I've always wanted to play a game like this where you start from the most meager of starts, and then role-play how you come to by a "PC". I would love to ROCK as a farmer! =D

Michiel Ruyter scythed the wheat in great, sweeping strokes. His father would be taking the cows to market soon, and needed more fodder to fatten them up and get a good price. He did this work happily, relishing the swing of the tool, the sweat on his brow, getting the cut just right to maximize each swing. After delivering the fresh feed, his father bade him to run into town and get their order from the blacksmith--the new horseshoes should be turned by now, and ol' Nissy needed them to plow the East Field. Michiel slowed his pace as he passed Old Eral and, by habit, dropped him a copper.
Just then the wind picked up from the Northeast, and carried with it a message.
And that message, was Change.

I'll be the Mayor.

Rory Bronson had a natural commanding presence that meant that the decision-making a group had to do usually came to him by default. It had been that way ever since he was a little boy among his friends. To command the respect of his peers when he was younger, he was sweet to adult women, quiet around adult men, and forceful everywhere else. When he became an adult himself, he found that even many of the town's elders listened to his ideas about how things should be done. If there's one thing Rory Bronson never lacked for, it was an opinion on how something should be done.

Now, as Mayor and with his wife, Kate, looking after him, he's learning more and more that others must have their say as well. His former bossy ways will no longer suit him in his noble occupation as leader of the town.

This is what I'm imagining his face will look like.

Right then, I present Jorm, dwarf priest of Erastil.

He grew up in the nearby mountain range to the village he now resides, but moved after converting from Torag to Erastil's worship. Finding peace in the serene still of nature, rather than the tinkering and hammering of metal and stone, Jorm was no stranger to the perils of either world. Beasts and monsters were common in the Old Deadeye's woods, and Jorm learned quickly the art of the bow in defense of not just himself but others as well.

Not much is known about his life under the mountains, and the rare occasion he leaves to "visit his other roots" he leaves in an almost grim silence, and has returned more than once with tears staining his eyes.

I'll cook up an alias by tonight or early tomorrow.

Is a halfling OK? Could be changed to a human.

The sheep were lazily grazing next to the stream. Mikos looked them over...18, 19, 20, 21...wait, there should have been another lamb there with the black ewe. Well, they had been getting more adventurous lately. He whistled for his sheepdog Angus and hopped up on its back, beginning a circuit of the pasture. His sharp eyes noticed a broken fence rail, probably from last night's storm. That would need to be fixed. He hopped off Angus and crouched down. There...hoofprints in the damp earth. Just then he heard a bleating from the forest side. Sliding under the fence, he stepped into the shade of the trees headed toward the lamb. A big hawk was watching the lamb from a high branch. He reached for his sling, and took a stone from his pouch, aiming at the bird....

All races are fine (core)

This sounds awesome. I want to try the woodsman.

Name:Aetherbert (Bert) Weathersby
Role: Woodsman
Race: Half-Elf

Son of a travelling Elven bard named Loraniel and a Human herbalist named Elenor.

Bert was often ostracized as a "half-breed" child. It's not that he was treated unkindly, he just unnerved people. Too calm and pragmatic for a child of his age, Bert would often seek the company of adults where he was seen as a burden. Alternately, the children of the town found Bert too serious.

After his father left, Bert clung to his mother and learned to forage for her herbs. He learned all he could from the local woodsmen and soon became an accomplished woodsman in his own right.

Bert spends most of his time these days as a longhunter and bushman, thought he still keeps a room at his mother's house in town.

Dotting for interest.

I'll put my hat in the ring for the Waitress role. My gal's a Half-Elf.

Kenna Breac (pronounced Breck) had been raised in the unwanted children's home from the age of three (abandoned by a human mother who wanted to marry and leave town and didn't want the burden of a bastard, half breed child in tow). When she reached sixteen summers old, Kenna left the orphanage (with no money and only a small bundle of clothes and articles) and sought employment at the only, real tavern in Rundown. Even with her ill luck in life, Kenna had a ready smile and an affable nature (clever, too!) and the proprietor saw something in the girl (her good looks were certainly a boon, also) and took a chance in hiring her on. She proved hard working and good with the patrons, even able to handle the ones with "touchy" hands.

Silver Crusade

1 person marked this as a favorite.

so, here are the NPC classes for the roles selected (and future PC classes open to you) no psionics, or occult will be used.

Mayor- Aristocrat, Expert, Wizard, Rogue, Bard,
Woodsman- warrior, expert Ranger, Druid, Barbarian
Waitress- Expert, commoner Rogue, Bard, Swashbucker
Begger- Expert commoner Rogue, fighter, sorcerer, Monk
Farmer-Warrior, Commoner Fighter, Ranger, Swashbuckler, Barbarian
Blacksmith- Warrior, Expert- Fighter, warpriest, Monk,
commoners gain an additional feat, and one free skill point for profession or craft skills.

wolfwaker- what role did you select?

note, when I first ran this, it was with somewhat newer players, and I had predetermined the class for each "role", however, I feel that giving you guys a bit of a small selection to chose from would turn out better.

Blacksmith could be interesting. If you don't mind, I think I will go with the standard of dwarf.

Can i submit a Physician? I was thinking once i level i will play a vivisectionist alchemist, if thats an available class

How many total characters are you looking for?

I kinda like the wanderer... have to think more about a background though.

Will we be given the chance to craft?

Name: Kazak Blackiron
Role: Blacksmith
Race: Dwarf

Kazak finished with Ol' Nissy's shoes and relaxed. He'd been day dreaming again and half expected one of the Ruyter boys to arrive before he finished. Horse shoes weren't the most exciting of jobs so he generally left them to the last minute. Truth be told none of his jobs were very exciting, his heart just wasn't in it. Never really had been, his father had been a great blacksmith and much of his stuff was still around the town although only the older among the humans remembered him. His passion was in his creation and it showed in both the quality and finishing touches of his creations. Kazak's passion and often his mind was elsewhere, with the traveling mistral's or circuses that on occasion visited. However Duty, to the town and to his family didn't allow such frivolities he had to do what was right and so he remained, making horse shoes and occasional plow.

Edit: Sorry Nowear, started this earlier and only saw your post when I submitted it.

@ rorek55: Where's the priest?

Well, now I am curious what the selection are for eccentric.

Silver Crusade

Somewhere between 5-7 players.

Yes, each role will also start with small bonus based on his roles.

Sorry, missed it haha.
Priest- adept, aristocrat' cleric, paladin, warpriest, oracle,

Idea as submitted earlier,

Name: Kenna Breac
Role: Waitress
Race: Half-Elf

At this stage, contemplating starting off as a Commoner (NPC class) and moving into Rogue (Chameleon or Spy) or a Swashbuckler (Flying Blade). Still thinking on it. I guess it depends on what kind of environment we will be in.

Rorek55, do you require any more from us at this stage? Or do we wait until you officially open a recruitment thread?

It seems that town eccentric would be a great way to broaden into sorcerer. He is off because of the latent power in his blood.

Silver Crusade

Eccentric- wizard, witch, sorcerer, alchemist

Physician- alchemist, oracle, witch, druid, ranger

@rorek55: Someone mentioned they were considering the Wanderer. You may wish to include that on your list, too. :)

Dark Archive

Thanks Rorek55, don't mean to be a hassle :)

Char Name: Jorm Ironknuckles
Role: Local Priest
Race: Dwarf

Plan to have him start as an adept and then move into a cleric of Erastil.

Name: David Cress
Role: Local Eccentric
Race: Human

David has been made fun of all his life. His pet viper is odd. The way he talks to it is even odder. What really sets him apart is how he claims that all snakes are talking to him. Sometimes they even seem to follow him around. He might have been exiled, or worse, if not for that time stopped a nasty viper from striking the mayor's daughter.

I will start as commoner then become a serpent sorcerer.

Rorek: if you don't mind, which class is "slated" to be fit for the Mayor? Not to sound lazy, but part of the appeal for me was the idea of crafting my character around a class chosen more or less for me.

Id like to take on the Town drunk

Gnome character, Name: Niston Llewellyn
Olive-Green hair with streaks of silver

Brewer and distributor of liquors Niston likes nothing more than a bottle of exotic spirits. While his own product is of high quality he can hardly resist such a purchase, the costs waved away as "research and development". Would he to remain sober surely his business would flourish to the point he could move to a city but he remains cheerily confidant in his success.

I saw Town Drunk and immediately started reflavoring Bloatmage in my head.

Silver Crusade

Aristocrat and, this was one of the 2 I couldn't decide on before. Wizard was what I decided on, but bard woks for a charismatic mayor.

If others wish I can give them the predetermined class for the role, though no ACG classes were used when I did this the first time.

Silver Crusade

I will make a recruitment thread, as I have more interest than I anticipated. Expect it up before midnight (EST)

@rorek55: Colour me curious. :) I'd like to hear what your original class idea for the 'waitress' role was. (I do like that you gave us a little input via the small selection, btw.)

And thanks for the heads-up re the recruitment thread.

I'm debating between playing Eral as a human or an elf so old he could have been your great grandfather. The classes for the Beggar are almost exactly the ones I wanted them to be, so the choice will be hard but I'm excited to make it. It will be highly influenced by what actually happens to make them go from common folk to heroes.

Bard.

The Exchange

This sounds great, I love starting a character from a lowly status. Here goes then:

Name: Bremen Coswind
Race: Half-Orc
Role: Tavern Bouncer

Like Kenna Breac, Bremen was raised in the nearby orphanage. Bremen doesn't remember what happened to his parents, just . . . foggy memories. He knows he had a mother, and a father. He remembers many other faces, people he knew, like family or friends. He remembers a life on the road, living in the caravans. Then, he remembers waking up to screams . . . and fire. Fire everywhere. He remembers his mother waking him, yelling at him to run. So he ran. He ran and ran until he was so exhausted he was stumbling along. He mistepped, and fell down a short hill, bashing his head on a rock at the bottom, and falling unconscious.

Luckily for Bremen, he landed a dozen feet from a road, where a group of traveling merchants found him, and took him to a nearby village, Rundown. Not knowing what else to do with him, the mayor at the time sent him to the nearby orphanage, where he lived until he turned fourteen, and the orphanage simply couldn't afford to feed him.

Bremen found it difficult to find work, given his tendency to quick temper, and his slightly limited intellect, a result of the injury he took to the head. One night though, he was staying at the tavern, paying his way performing menial labor, when a passing group of poachers stopped by for the night. They got very pushy with the other patrons, and refused to leave when asked, going so far as to make crude threats towards Kenna, who Bremen had known from the orphanage. Bremen . . . lost his temper, and "ejected" the vermin from the tavern. He was immediately offered the job as a bouncer, and has been living happily since.

@rorek55: what are the options for the Wanderer? Thanks. :)

I was thinking shepherd but from that list I guess farmer is my choice. Will probably go into archer ranger.
