looking to make a character who can be anyone. is spymaster best?

Advice

I'm trying to buff up my disguise check to ridiculous levels, but I'll also need some mind reading protection too i suppose.

Any arg classes, stats are 18 18 18 16 16 14

....darn.....good stats.

Anyway, what races are available? Part of me wants to suggestkitsune, since they have a feat, realistic likeness, that lets them shapechange into any human (I think; cloudy issue. Still means most characters you might want to impersonate. A smart GM might throw an elven conspiracy at you, but the points remains- most people would be covered).

While bards and alchemists are often recommended, you could also try a witch (they have the disguise hex, which is basically disguise self for hours equal to your level per day. Plus, I think they have a charm person like hex as well, which is also useful.

Those are amazing stats to waste on a prestige class, but yes Master Spy is the best for being other people even under heavy inspection.

Urban Druid gets 1000 faces at 6th level.

I do think that Kitsune are amazing for imitating humans, and you can get feats that will allow you to change very swiftly indeed. I am playing a kitsune spy and loving it.

Have you considered going sorcerer with a kitsune? The raksasa bloodline absolutely fascinated me for all of its disguise and bluff possibilities, and for the ability later on to hide your nature from aura checks / magical inspections. You also get one of the best mindreading abilities out there with this bloodline.

Add in kitsune bonues to DCs on enchantment / compulsion spells and I think that you could have a beginning to a great spy character.
Hmm

Oh, if you are trying to buff up disguise to ridiculous levels, I do note that the trait "Keeper of the Veil" provides a circumstance bonus, and thus will stack with other traits that buff disguise.

Hmm

Oh, the infiltrator archetype for inquisitors adds their wisdom to their disguise and bluff skills, and they get their class level as a bonus on saves against things that try to magically discover your lies.

This is in contrast to the ability that you trade out for that bonus- discern lies. Inquisitors can cast discern lies for their class level rounds/day as an immediate action (which is all you really need, I guess). With inquisitors as a 'thing', and able to do this so much on the fly, a smart GM would of course make them key enemies for a spy focused character.

So infiltrator is an option to get up to a +20 on saving rolls when their counter parts can force saving rolls like this up to 20 times/day.

If D&D 3.5 stuff is allowed, the Changling from the Eberron is almost impossible to beat. Tzizimine has a good Eberron to Pathfinder site you might want to check out in the conversion forum.

Once you hit 6th level and can go Veiled Illusionist they're even better at disguise checks than anyone else. The only hang-up is that detect magic will make you glow like a lightbulb. Less an issue if you're disguised as someone that normally has a lot of magic on them.

High enough level and your illusions to change your appearance are so good people can't see through them.

Wow, so many good ideas, it's a bit overwhelming hah. Sorry, for races i can play anything from the advanced race guide... i accidentally said classes before.

I do have a lot of 3.5 books, and it's cool to use, i just wasn't sure what pathfinder had for this.

Ah, then kitsune seems like a definite strong choice.

I also want to say- with those stats, do not feel like you have to go with any particular kind of build. Even with a -2 to strength (if you did pick kitsune), you still end up with a 16 (heck, you would end up with with three 18's and three 16's in everything depending on how its arranged). The world is yours for the picking really.

Part of me wants to suggest a kitsune ranger with some way to get disguise as a class skill now. Besides their ton of skill points (always a plus for a spy since you need several social skills), they get bonus feats... and the kitsune racial feats often have a weird clause that lets you you pick them in place of such bonus feats. Imagine grabbing vulpine pounce the instant level 10 rolls around... (I think slayer could also work, but I am not an expert on the language of ACG stuff)

Some things we did not mention:

1) Realistic Likeness -- The Kitsune Racial feat that let's you disguise yourself as any human you have ever seen -- is something you can pick up at 1st level.

2) Raksasa Bloodline offers disguise as a class skill. Yes, sorcerers don't get many skill points, but the abilities in RAksasa would be very roguish.

Hmm

Allow me to plug my own work for a moment.

Yes, Master Spy is best.

My build is a combination of rogue (charlatan archetype), the kitsune race, and the master spy prestige class. Nobody will EVER find you. Ever.

Kitsune

Tuen either sorx to vieled illusion
Or
Investigator, would suggest ephy archetype. Into master spy. Net you good disguise self, some magic, and the master spy knowledge rolls to pretend you know stuff will be easy. Investigator has some rogue talents a well
And inspiration is darn useful. While he bonus wont be epic studied isnt bad for this sorta thing,

I like less magic, so id do investigator with master apy, up to whenever tou get bored of master spy.

Lantern Lodge

Veiled Illusionist.

Nondetection is a thing, guys.

Ring of Mind Shielding is quite helpful.

Very cool guys, thanks. I'll have to check it all out when i get home to my books.

My friend, back in the day, in 3.5 played a

Ninja, Ninja master, master spy, spy

He was ninja ninja master master spy spy, captain of the double talking echo.

Well i know persona immersion changeling was amazing, just trying for more of a pathfinder build. I was most confused on if magic was the best way to go or not. So far there seem to be plenty of non caster ways to go. It's awesome!

Mask of Stony Demeanor (500gp) also helps with my build.
