Welcome back Goblinoids!

This episode, we’ve got Stephen Cheney in the hot seat!

He talks about all sorts of good stuff, like what a +5 sword will look like, what that means for your abilities, and how there might actually be a large second hand market for gear.

As always, Gobbocast is grateful for time and information the Goblinworks crew gives us!

Check out the Podcast here!

Enjoy!

Awesome, thanks Gobbocast!

I loves me some Gobocast

Two B's dammit =P And its pronounced Gob oh cast not Go bo cast... although Krow will tell you its the other way around, but he's not around right now so I win by default... at least for now.

Harad has been putting in so much work as of late, we might have to add a third Goblin to that logo in the future.

Hope you folks enjoy!

I have been trying not to say Go-bo-cast, but Gob-bo-cast, like gobbing on the carpet. I shall pay more attention, and be more guttural.

I also finally realized why I am miss-pronouncing Nihimon's name so often.

Goblin Squad Member

I always pick up something new (to me) from Gobbocast.

Thanks (as usual) Guys!

My problem is always the knights who say "Nih!"

Goblin Squad Member

This was great, bravo!

Goblin Squad Member

You do an excellent job Harad! Krow is usually the guilty part =P

Great interview.

If I had to pick one aspect of PFO I am confident is going to be an asset to this game it would have to be the crafting. Everything just seems to make sense, gets great support from other systems and, quite importantly, seems to be largely implemented already (bells and whistles notwithstanding).

And this is coming from someone who in general has little to no interest in crafting himself.

Very nice episode.

One thing was kind of weird though.
I absolutely get the need to interrupt your guest in order to mix up and adjust the flow of the conversation and to not have huge dumps of information in the interest of structure. However interrupting your guest for the purpose of making a joke has a disruptive quality in my humble opinion. This is pretty much highly subjective and may not be true for the other listeners.

Understood.

Nice Go-Bo-Kast! I am glad I am a native English speaker. Stephen can talk way faster than most native speakers can listen, much less non-native English speakers!

Since this is a one-server game it might not be a bad idea for everyone to sslloooowwwww ddoooowwwwwwwwwnnnnn a little so everyone can understand everything. That I know of we have Italians, French, Germans, Dutch, Finnish, Russians and several bvious ones I hae missed.

Which brings to mind a question...What is the plan to cater more to the international audience in the future? (Languages in particular.)

What, you don't like an hour and a half of information packed into a 45 minute podcast? Think of the savings! ;)

For the in-house videos, I'm usually staring at Ryan behind the camera, and for the podcast I was looking at Harad. Problem is, both of them are caught up enough on the game systems that I can talk a million miles a minute and they'll keep up. I think the only way you're going to get me to slow down is to actually put someone that I'm talking too fast for on the other side so I can pick up on the visual cue to slow down.

Next Gobbocast with Stephen: Kitsune's and Dakcenturi's new youngsters will do the interviewing. Waiting for them to understand'll slow Stephen down.

I, for one, think our new "adorable baby interviewer" marketing strategy is a winner, and may take us to unexpected new markets.

I hope that was constructive criticism. The information in the Gobbocast was awesome!

One of my many previous jobs was as a linguist...a poor one, but still...understanding a foreign language can be difficult, and English is a level IV language, the highest level (in difficulty). Anyone from other countries that does no already have a high mastery of English will be getting these updates very late, after the local talent does the interpretation.

Goblin Squad Member

Whoa there bud. We've got a slew of Europeans at our disposal, but I'm not sure what you are asking for? I think the best we could do atm is a transcript that gets translated. As far as having the podcasts dubbed... I think that is a bit out of our capabilities at the moment.

Goblin Squad Member

No, not for the Gobbocast. That is a helpful piece of information. The language issue is directed at GW for the PFO community at large. There will eventually be additional languages added I would imagine. Interested to hear if and when that will occur. I do not think the Gobbocast would bother to reach a broader audience through pricey subtitles as its viewership is far too small.

Goblin Squad Member

Ok. That makes a bit more sense +P Sorry for the confusion.

Might be nit picking but as a historian well versed in 17th-19th century warfare I find the idea of referring to a great weapon ability as dragoon (mounted infantry armed with guns) is extremely confusing. Will the term grenadier be related to spear attacks?

Also we never agreed to teach anyone else how to make our steel. ;)

Might be nit picking but as a fan of the Final Fantasy video game franchise I find the idea of referring to a great weapon ability as dragoon (it needs spears and the JUMP ability) is extremely confusing. ;P

As mentioned on the podcast, it started off much closer to the Dragoon archetype and drifted in a series of steps due to not having mounted combat in yet (or spears at the time it began drifting).

Honestly, it could probably stand to just be renamed, and then I can put in a much more accurate Dragoon once we have mounted combat.

I thought Dragoons used spears and had improbable jumping abilities?

Goblin Squad Member

I thought they were ill-mannered dragons.

Goblin Squad Member

I thought they dragged Oons through the streets.

Goblin Squad Member

Dragoons appear as female goons. In terms of game mechanics, it's an armor skil. Probably the skill needed by burly fighters for squeezing into chainmail bikinis.
