So my homebrew is thusfar proceeding decently.
The group is a 5 members party. The lone guy is a mobile fighter, with the 4 women being a monk, sorceress, oracle and bard.
What are spells that are, for this party, hilarious against this sort of party?
I'm starting off with:
Uncontrollable lust on the lone guy.
Simply Gabriele |
Ok, if you know that all the players are comfortable with the theme, feel free.
If you KNOW.
Though I have to wonder if you'd find it hilarious to use black tentacles on male characters to the exact same effect. They're not immune after all, and it would have the same effects used on a Generic Big Guy Fighter #9 as it would on a Generic Big Girl Fighter #9.
Also be aware of how such things might affect IC atmosphere. For example, the oracle gets violently attacked and violated, how does the party react? It can cause a lot of conflict if other pcs make a joke out of what would be a traumatic experience. What if that lone male party member gets hit by uncontrollable lust and goes for the sorceress? Will the woman continue to feel comfortable around him? Will she blame him for being too weak willed? Will she accuse him of using magic as an excuse? How will the guy feel? Ashamed, mocked or brazen about it? After all, men aren't just 'haha mammaries!' int 5 trolls, it might have different effects on different personalities.

You really need to make sure what your group feels comfortable with. In my group, two (male) players had their characters turned into women. They were perfectly fine with it and actually found transformative curses kind of fun. But not everyone have those tastes while others would be offended.
Though, uncontrollable lust and black tentacles sounds rather...squicky.

Geez, the guy says the group is all guys AND cool with it and all he gets is "Thisisterribleandyoushouldfeelterrible." I gotta say, I'm not a fan of the humor being aimed for here either (seen plenty more of it than I ever cared for in anime), but the simple thing to do if you don't want to add to something isn't to tell someone not to do it. Just don't respond.

Basically all the ideas I thought of were to make the sole guy very sad. What can I say, I watch a lot of RomCom anime.
Create water/drench–to cool off the guy when he’s getting too frisky
Mage hand—to slap him upside the head
Lock Gaze—“look at me, I’m so sexy!” by anybody
Stumble Gap/grease—to create any of those typical anime moments.
Forbid Action/Command—Sit! Stay! Good boy.
Bungle—to make any advances definitely not gonna work. (I also remember there being a spell that basically makes everyone the target talks to hate their guts, but I'm not able to find it)
Also for a cursed item, a Medallion of Thought Projection would be fun.

The possibility of something really weird and uncomfortable happening is high, really really high. Especially with ideas like casting uncontrollable lust on the one guy.
Consider the likelihood that something funny and entertaining will happen with the right spell choice. Everybody gets a good laugh.
Then consider how likely it is that something that makes somebody really uncomfortable happens. Then consider the consequences of that in the group dynamic.
The risk/reward is way off. It's such a bad idea.

Fire and water. If the characters care about their appearance, then mess up their hair and outfits. Fire and water are the best ways to do that. Have buff spells do interesting things to them, like Bull's Strength turning someone into an amazon. Don't just humiliate them. Have moments where they make others the butt of jokes, like having the monk prove she's stronger than a guy twice her size. Or simply introduce tropes and see how the characters react. Consider items, as well. If you want to go the cliche route, have the characters discover a chainmail bikini that's enchanted with an armor or deflection bonus to AC and see how the characters respond to it. Such an item would actually look rather appealing for the monk and sorcerer.
One of my players has a running gag with his fire-themed suli monk, who is loaded with lots of fire-type SLAs. Taking advantage of her fire resistance, she's infamous for setting herself on fire to intimidate foes. Needless to say, this has a bad effect on her wardrobe and she has to buy new clothes every town visit. She was especially upset when she paid a decent sum for a tailor to create her a custom outfit, vowing not to set herself aflame, only to have it get ruined the very next combat anyway.

Sure, I get that it would be possibly the worst idea to do in PFS, or a game where you don't know for certain that the players are going to be okay with it, but it sounds like-from the information we have anyway-everyone involved would at the worst just not think it's funny, not really offended. But yeah, I have to say, I'm not exactly a fan of the "anime-humor," for lack of a better word, involved, I would in fact second the recommendations to check with the group if they're cool with it. But just saying "no don't" is incredibly unproductive.
Also, as a tip, you can use that "reply" button in the top right of a post to quote them. Saves time replying and pointing out the specific part of a post you refer to in a large post.

Hehe. Wylliam, this isn't a good idea. Tongue-in-cheek and off-color humor is good ONLY in very small doses, and ONLY if you know your audience really, really well. It can be a tension-breaker, but it falls flat if force fed to an audience.
Want a joke? Have everyone the party meets become polite and deferential (monsters too) because they're women. Every act of violence on the group's part results in apologies. Every tough guy and thug wants to "explain where they're coming from", Every barbarian is a metrosexual, etc. etc.
When the group becomes sick of it, have a laugh and move on.

Instead of hitting them with spells, have the party visit an Amazon village to secure some sort of aid in their quest. The male character isn't taken seriously; he's treated like the servant of the female PCs, and is expected to remain silent while the women are discussing strategy. At night the woman are given special guest quarters while the man is expected to sleep in the communal male hut.

Apologies for the unexpectedly unhelpful responses. I noticed you retracted a line from your original post, Perhaps this humor would be funny if I was still 90% idiot instead of 45%, or if you were a long time friend, or if one of my long-time time female party members was present to shut you down/sock you in the leg/arm. Please believe me - my favorite kind of humor is the extremely inappropriate/just plain wrong kind, but I don't know you or your forum posts.

Luckily, the ogre can use Tumblr to get out. I mean Tumble. I mean Acrobatics.MRA stands for Monsters' Rights Activists, of course.

Have a nobleman hire the party to be his daughter's bodyguard during a perilous journey. The daughter is your typical spoiled princess and treats the whole thing like a big sleep-over, except not when the fighter is around. She's constantly finding whatever reason she can to send him out of earshot, so she can "gab" with the ladies.
Also, when the party goes to buy new armor, have the blacksmith be very embarrassed about having to take a woman's measurements for armor, and call in his wife to do it. He makes awkward, "macho" small talk with the fighter while this is going on.
Wylliam Harrison |
What kind of fun are you going for?
Mere fun actually, nothing that fcks them up.
The lone guy in the group is my brother, so i know he can laugh about it. I'd spoiler a hinting like: you suddenly find [person] very huggable and cute. The male character isn't taken seriously; he's treated like the servant of the female PCs
He's filling that role sort of, as bodyguard to the Irissen sorceress.
like Bull's Strength turning someone into an amazon
That is actually a very fun idea, i'll look where to incorporate that, thank you.
Tongue-in-cheek and off-color humor is good ONLY in very small doses
Oh i'm not intending to turn this into a big slapstick adventure, but a small innocent gag once in a while would be fun.

Great idea too.
This is good inspiration for their future ventures. They have a city to save first though.
As my earlier reaction to Owly, this won't be a slapstick, but like an action movie, an innocent joke scattered throughout the adventure isn't bad imo.

Tongue in cheek it is.... And in small doses...
1) Group gets hired to bodyguard a group of 5 male adolescent bard. They're just hangin' tough, though.
2) you might also want to read Birds of Prey from DC. All women except one dude called Condor...
3) they get scouted out by mantis assassins and callistrians
4) one of they key treasures is a set of magical dresses...
5) chelaxian males ignore the women and just talk with the dude

Frankly, this is an extremely bad and incredibly immature idea.
This kind of thinking is emblematic of the misogynistic undercurrent that unfortunately suffuses much of "geek culture."
Be a bigger man and stop feeding the misogyny.
Don't do it.
@All female players reading this; this is solely for humor. No offense meant.
That's like saying, "I'm not a racist, but <offensive racist joke>."
Not cool, man. Not cool.

Actually, when anything that approaches misogyny comes up, it's important to call it out. Especially by other men.
I find this especially troubling because it's an all-male gaming group. This kind of behavior normalizes the continued attitude of male privilege that FAR too many men have.
Be a bigger man. Treat everyone with the respect they deserve.

Seriously.
1. If you wouldn't throw something at a male dominated party, don't throw it at a female dominated one.
2. If whatever you come up with is fine because all the players are men and there are no women to see or hear it, it's not fine. Chances are, it's bullshit.
3. If you find something funny when it happens to women and not when it happens to men, you just might be a misogynist.
Just don't.

I've had to look up this word. I take offense sir, i loathe people like that and am in no way such a person. I have been in classes with the girl to guy ration 6-1 and got along very well with them, even backtalked people who were disrespectful towards women. Some of my best friends are women.

Who says i wouldn't have joked with an all male party if i had one? Most definitely i would.
As to the misogynist, as per above with Haladir. I loathe that kind of people and take offense being stamped as such.Clearly this has not turned out the way i intended this thread to be and have chosen the wrong title.
I've seen some funny suggestions for social situations, thanks to those people but am now leaving this for what it is.

I wouldn't be that bothered these two seem like the typical sycophants of Tumblr-feminists where anything and everything men do for a laugh is automatically Misogyny, although on the joke front I'd tailor more to character personality, that tends to grant the best material

Who says he's NOT treating them with respect? The fighter being the odd man out (haha, literally), it seems his ideas at least partially run towards embarrassing the lone male of the party. Which is how this kind of thing should work: true equality means giving both sexes the same degree of scrutiny, responsibility, and liberty. Anything less put upon one of them is an insult to the capability of that gender because, "Oh, they're just not as capable in that area, no need to hold them to the higher standard".
So what if this GM wants to toss in some sex-related humor to lighten the mood? That's what humor is for! As long as he's not making it all about the female characters just being walking pairs of breasts, I don't think a little sexual humor in an RPG with 6 guys is going to set back women's right in western civilization any.
